Murph’s Baclofen (or should that be BacloFUN) diary

First off bkyogagurl, I got to see your original post in my email notifications. I preferred it and don't know why you edited it. No one minds talk of "grapefruits" round here. In fact it's positively encouraged.

Curly, I know exactly what you mean about needing to stay clear for work. Adding it later on is, while not ideal, probably the best thing to do.

The restlessness at night and snoring thing sounds like sleep apnoea (apnea) to me. It's really common for bacers (bacateers, bacsters?, we need to agree on an expression that describes us best). Rudy knows ALL about this and hopefully she'll pop by soon and point you to a thread she started. Unless she's had to rush out to the shop to buy more AA batteries again. She goes through an inordinate number of them...no one knows why.

Murph’s Baclofen (or should that be BacloFUN) diary

hey murph, i already am cowering enough about my scandalous and impure nonsense on these boards. you don't need to rub it in!

hey there bk yoga and curly! bk, i don't know when i started, i'd have to go bac to my first post on my thread (read it if you want, but you may be shocked and horrified at some of the references and innuendos). i think it was somewhere around april. i am now up to 150. i think i was at about 110 or so when i had a few days of terrifying apnea. i saw one night w an hour's sleep, the next with three. now i'm sleeping like a log (but catching myself snoring a bit; nobody else is bothered as i sleep alone, of which you are all well aware). but i can't seem to get myself to bed quite early enough. thanks to ne, i now have a plan for that one: commit to a time each night when i turn off mwo/movie/the brain, and close the eyes. sleep is almost immediate always. i am EXHAUSTED. head-buzzing, body thrumming wiped out! (my apnea thread is prob a page or two back by now. i'd say chime in on it if it's relevant to you. it might help someone struggling w this issue if it's bumped up.)

please all keep us posted on your titration and experiences, it is very helpful.
sweet dreams (though i'm sure this is not the last you've seen of me for the day).

Here's the apnoea thread https://www.mywayout.org/community/f2...elp-50166.html I'm not sure how useful it is, but may be worth a look.

Whoa stop right there. Just because one person gets all weird about something it doesn't mean that the rest of the world has to follow and bow to their demands.

But then again, I may have underestimated you and your comment "you don't need to rub it in" was actually a really rather saucy euphemism.

okay, it was two people who referenced it with something like discomfort, but i get your point. i'm glad it's okay, in your opinion, for me to keep being myself. i'll just watch where i do that to the fullest.

i'm done with saucy for a second, but it'll be right back.

baclonauts sounds too much like nuts. i think bacsters is cool.

Rudy, Your apnea experience sounds very similar to mine. I posted a response but I have no idea where it ended up. I have always had tremendous anxiety around sleeping and have always used AL as a sedative. I also use Ambien at times. I'm so irrationally afraid of being tired the next day! Bleep and Murph I took your advice and increased my dose by 10 mg for a total of 160 mg ( I added 10 mg to my 4:30 pm dose). Let's hope I get to the point of indifference soon. For those of you who are already there, did you just wake up one day and realize the switch had occurred or was it a gradual type awakening?

years ago i used to chug guinness hoping it would make me sleep better. i'd wake up the next day tired anyway, and with a hangover. eventually, very recently, i headed straight to the vodka. it was quicker and the hangover wasn't so cruel. oh the challenges life presents!

In one of them he says you should chew bac and then hold it under your tongue, but he doesn't say why. I wonder if that improves absorbtion. Does anyone know? I?m surprised no one has picked up on this. It was before my time here but I think I?m right in saying Dr Phillip Thomas (known here as Dr Phill) has been rather discredited. I?ve never heard of chewing bac before and wouldn?t decide to do it based solely on his advice. Oh and btw he?s no longer allowed to practise as a doctor in the UK and shouldn?t be describing himself as one.

Loading the doses in the second half of the day may increase your chances of apnoea and other sleep disruption. I know it?s difficult to include the increases in your earlier doses but maybe as you get more used to the higher level of bac you could try it. It might not be as big a problem as you expect or have previously experienced. Also piracetam is highly recommended by a lot of people here. It?s a nootropic read about them here Nootropic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I can?t personally recommend it, as I haven?t yet tried it, but I?ve got some on order.

It varies for everyone. I had a definite decrease in cravings, which I ignored and just continued to drink as much (or even more) than ever. Then one morning I woke up with a shitty hangover and rather than the usual ?I?m never going to drink again? hollow promise, I realised I really had no desire to drink and that feeling stayed with me.

Murph thanks for the advice on the Piracetam. I ordered some today from Amazon. Maybe it will allow me to even out my doses.

Rudy you mentioned Dr. Levin on another thread. Who is he (she)?

Murph’s Baclofen (or should that be BacloFUN) diary

Dr Levin is a guy in Chicago, and one of the very few doctors in the world who realises that baclofen needs to be taken at high doses for it to be of any use. He will prescribe over the phone, so it's quite handy if you live in the States.

Chewing baclofen - why on earth would anyone do that? Sounds a very pointless exercise, especially on a dose of 300+

It will be interesting to see if raising your dose helps. If it doesn't I'm afraid we are both probably going to suggest taking more! Something to consider if you are waking up half the night is to consider taking some baclofen then. Nobody is going to comment if you are somewhat woozy at 4 in the morning, and it is a great way to space your doses more evenly. I would never suggest waking up to take baclofen, but if you are awake, I would certainly consider it time well spent.

The big thing with taking baclofen, I think, is that you want to mimic how your brain would secrete it, if your brain was in charge. And that's a slow and steady drip feed all day and all night, whatever dose you happen to be on. Obviously it's not practical to take 0.5mg's every five minutes, but the closest you can come to this the better. I THINK.

You caught me Murph... I do have a very similar
humor to yours. I just try not to let it out here.

I'm a lady, you know. Blah haahhaha

                        I like lurking and laughing....

I am not on Bac and really don't want to try it. I am thinking of Nal.
I was on Topa a few times and it worked great but the flea flicking
SE's killed me. Then the dreaded hair loss was the topper.

I am plugging along. Trying not to be a drunk on my own sorta. I
am taking Lexapro, I know its not any help for AL. But helps the
nerves. I am going to discontinue that too. Sounds crazy but I am
going to give my body a rest from Meds and look at my beautiful
children every day and think of what kind of grandma I will be someday.
If that doesn't work. I am going to give Nal a try.

                        good day to all,
                        BK

usually I love a big project around the house. I have a shed in my backyard that needs to be painted. I started it a few days ago, then stopped because of the weather. Normally it would be driving me crazy not to be able to work on it and it would irritate me to see it half painted. Not so right now. I obviously want to finish it, but I don't have that intense drive to get things done the way I did before. Is that the bac?

I'm a bit of a control freak which eased up considerably with bac to the joy of my kids and the detriment of my work!

Now I've tapered down to 60mg my old behaviour is coming back :upset:
Started Baclofen 3/9/10 Hit my switch at 250mg on 21/11/10 Present maintenance dose of 50mg : started drinking after 1 year, upped dose to 80mg and stopped: Tapered to 30mg, started 6 months of drinking, upped dose to 240mg to stop 12/7/12
