Murph’s Baclofen (or should that be BacloFUN) diary

Murphy, could you at least TRY to be funny in your posts for once?

I can relate to many of the SE's. Most of them I'm liking. Glad to see I'm not the only one who wakes up naked in random spots.

Carrots are really good for your dogs Murph. LOL we spent hundreds of $$ putting a fence all the way around my veggie garden to keep the dogs out. Any thought of "saving money" by growing my own went out the window with that, and numerous other expensive gardening trivia.

Hey - check out the worm in my avatar. That thing ate all the leaves off the tomato plant on my porch. I bet that think is about the size of...... never mind.

            Baclofen = Hope

            Hi Murph and all...

I am SO glad I've found this forum!

Murph, like you, I have a quarter of a century of drinking (hopefully) behind me. I am on day 28 of baclofen and for the first time in a very long time, perhaps ever, I feel a sliver of hope for the future.

I'd been on just about every med available, gone to AA and RR, spent WAY too much time in ERs and psych wards, and always ended up right back where I started. When I learned about baclofen (quite serendipitously), I tracked down Amiesen's book and talked my shrink into prescribing it (he'd never heard of its off-license use).

Is it desperation masquerading as hope? A placebo effect? Are those GABA receptor agonists rearranging my brain? Whatever is going on, it's working. Not only am I not drinking, I am NOT THINKING ABOUT DRINKING.

I am learning more and more about baclofen, which, sadly, has not seemed to elicit much attention from those in the addictions field. Why isn't someone screaming this news from a rooftop? :microphone:

Yay Mazie, I know exactly how you feel! I'm right there with ya.

DG, those tomato plant worms are like tiny monsters. They're horrible looking. I just planted two heirloom tomatoes and expecting the buggars to arrive any day. I chase all white butterflies out of my garden, because I think these are their larvae.

                  Mazie, that is FANNNNNTASTIC news.

The geeky kids in the class will tell you all sorts of sciency crap about GABA things and the likes being changed, but personally I think it's magic. Whatever it is, you've come through and it's time to celebrate.:disco:

Now you get to meet the REAL you, the one you were forgetting even existed.

Have you worked out what it was that made you drink in the first place? And how you're going to deal with those triggers? These are things you're probably going to have to sort out in the coming weeks but right now the important thing is

                  WOOHOOOOOOO!

Now you're part of MWO, together we can deal with the rest of the other stuff.

I literally welled up reading your post. It's great to hear from you Mazie :l

DG, I was trying to work out what was going on in your new avatar; my bac-brain couldn't process the picture. That ain't no worm, that looks like a caterpillar. Squish it. Squish them all, the greedy little feckers. Personally I'm far too squeamish to do that sort of thing so I get Mrs Murph to do it, only she won't squish things, she just picks them up and throws them down the end of the garden. But they need SQUISHING!

Mazie, that's really great to hear!

I agree with Murph, it's magic. And wonderful magic at that. You can already see the benefits, how high have you gone to feel them?

That was exactly my reaction as well - why isn't this more widely known. It still amazes me that we sit in this quiet little corner of the internet, despite our best efforts to spread the word.

I analyzed his poetry in my writing class, The Revoltuion and two others. I had to offer him a smirk and a shrug at the irony of the whole situation. Especially when contrasted with, for instance, the analysis of Mariah Carey's "Hero".

I saw something today and had thoughts, but wasn't sure where to post it.

I was watching a national news program this morning, and they showed a story of Brooke Mueller trying to go to Mexico to take Ibogaine for her drug addiction struggles. She was turned down due to lack of a passport, but I was amazed that this even made the news.

For those living outside the USA, Brooke Mueller isn't even famous really. She's the recently divorced ex-wife of Charlie Sheen, who captivated the nation a few months ago with his huge coke-fueled, stripper loving binges. Sheen and Lindsay Lohan are constantly in the news for their drug troubles and run ins with the law.

Now, if this piece about Mueller even made National News, imagine if someone like Sheen or Lohan found success with bac? It's guaranteed that interest in it would take off.
