Uk and Baclofen
A terrorist in our midst!
Maybe look into the charges and confirm that you actually can't enter the States?
Good luck UK - Bare in mind both times you have tried baclofen, good things have happened. Along with some bad, but babies, bathwater, etc... 3rd time lucky?

Uk and Baclofen
And, like staying sober, sticking with baclofen takes a good deal of will power and a good deal of determination.
Traveling to the US for a rehab clinic (that prescribes baclofen, btw) seems a bit extreme compared to just putting up with baclofen SEs. Which, btw, can be minimalised if you are willing to be sober or reduce your drinking (which you obviously seem to be able to do for shorter periods).Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Uk and Baclofen
Ms. Ukblond,
I am so very confused. I have been reading your posts for a couple of weeks and really have no idea what's going on. That being said, I am not trying to offend you, please don't take this as me being judgemental or worse.
What I wish you would explain is what you want. I know you want to be sober, get it, feel it, know it. How do you want to get there? You post statements that are negative regarding the "miracle pill", and whatever else. You mostly seem to post statements that are 12 step positive and I've read this has worked for you in the past. I'm not quite sure why you're here, if the 12 step programs work so well for you. I also know that you have a tremendous willpower to be abstinent.
Considering who you are, and your tremendous willpower, why not use it to try to remain AF while trying baclofen? Maybe it could work? Also, I think I read you jumped from 10mgs to 75mgs in a day? Did I misinterpret this? If so, you would have such severe side effects, no one could stay on it.
One last thing, and not to get crazy here. Aren't you off baclofen now? You went from being off baclofen to 125mg in one day? Or were you titrating? Seriously, you need to go really slow. Take 5mg see what happens with SE's then 10mg and then so on. Do not ever go up without getting rid of most of the negative SE's from the previous dose. Positive SE's are fine and should continue
Just per the MD I talk to frequently about how I'm going to do this and exactly my plan designed by him. Of course, I always believe myself too, and if I need to tweak things outside of what he's said, I'm not a robot. Please just stop jumping around with the doses. Bac will most likely only make you miserable if you do this, and will never cure you. This Princess Saved Herself

Actually, I think I skipped the major point of what I was saying. I agree with Beatle, traveling here is a bit extreme considering you can do this at home with the right resources. On dosing of baclofen, a therapist, ect. I looked into this rehab and few months ago, before I found this site. It is very expensive. A few thousand dollars, plus travel money and time off work. It sounds like you can't afford to miss one day of work, or could possibly lose your job. Of course, if you have the money, and this is the only way that you think will work for you, fuck the rest. Sobriety is the most important and there are other jobs. Gotta make yourself sober first, and the rest will fall in place. I think..........This Princess Saved Herself

ukb,
you are undoubtedly going to take this the wrong way. Yet, I’ll try, again.
Red is correct about your erratic titration. In addition to what she mentions, there is also the fact that on one thread you said that the day your legs collapsed you took 150mg. Significantly more than you had taken the day before. And that you were drinking very heavily at the time.
You have repeatedly mentioned that you were giving up on high-dose-baclofen therapy, or giving up on will-power, or giving up on the tools you’ve learned in 12-step meetings. In the same day, you have mentioned that you are taking baclofen for sleep or taking substantial doses of it.
I think you might be befuddled, a bit. I can certainly relate.
Here is my 0.02, for what it’s worth:
Rather than starting new threads and asking for help with questions that have already been answered, please use your substantial time and considerable intelligence to search for the answers with the search tool. Or on the many links that have been provided for you.
You are very defensive, paranoid and angry. It’s hard to navigate around that. We all come with a message and in the spirit of the community to offer A way out.
I would also suggest that rather than looking into rehab, you print out the research found on the Consolidated Baclofen Thread, and take it to your counselor. Rather than limiting those visits to once every two weeks, against her recommendation, perhaps you should up them to twice a week?
I do not have you on ignore. Quite the opposite, you occupy much of my thoughts. I am frustrated, hurt, worried and well, frustrated by your posts. You are headed for a one stop visit to train-wreck-station by taking baclofen at will, continuing to binge and refusing all help/guidance/suggestions. You’ve got the tools and the where-with-all. Use them. Start with the threads that have been provided, or with AA, but just start. Better minds than yours and mine have been at this for considerably longer. (and I don’t underestimate your mind or mine!)
Finally, and this is important to me, it is disingenuous of you to comment on newbies threads without first doing your own homework and getting yourself straight. The rest of us are fair game. I welcome your doubts, thoughts and all the rest, too. I understand them. For a VERY long time I missed the point of all of this, and despaired. I will follow up with that thought in my own thread later.
READ! Stop writing. You’ll come out ahead of this, if you apply yourself.
I hope you'll take this with the spirit with which it was intended. But either way, you know how to reach me!

Great post, Karen. I concur with all that you and redhead have said.
:ls to you, UKB. I wish you the best going forward, with whatever path you decide to take.Better Living Through Chemistry
Switched at 180mgs of Baclofen on 1/31/11, and again on 10/8/11 at 200mgs.

For me, baclofen SEs were strongly correlated with hydration and nutrition. Try increasing your water intake significantly.
I'll offer anything I can, including a place to be seriously pissed off (US version pissed means angry, not drunk, ftr). If I can't handle it or you hurt my feelings, I'll let you know.
You can be drunk, too. That's just a given, I think.

ps. I liked your thread "My New Thread" Maybe that would be a good place to return to when you start exploring this stuff, if you decide to take meds again.

Have you contacted Jonathan Chick in Edinburgh? He is a private doctor, a psychiatrist and who is experienced with baclofen. You could try talk to him or make an appointment.
o Dr Jonathan Chick- Consultant Psychiatrist, Royal Edinburgh Hospital and Part-time Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry, Edinburgh University. Chick has previously been a Member of the Scientific Staff Medical Research Council Unit for Epidemiological Studies in Psychiatry. Whilst working in the substance misuse treatment services Chick conducted research into brief counselling for those in general hospitals with a newly identified alcohol problem. He has written numerous academic papers and has published book chapters and books on alcohol related problems. Chick is also currently Editor-in-chief of the journal Alcohol and Alcoholism.
I have also read that there is a rehab in Enfield/Hertfordshire which has prescribed baclofen? I'll look into it and link where I heard it. (As long as I didn't dream it.)

Hi UKB,
I know many people who have been to more than one rehab clinic, including my manager's girlfriend, and they have failed at recovery. I have read many of your posts, and responded to some, but don't recall (sorry) if you'd tried the aminos and the omega 3's. They appear to help, along with vitamins (C, B, calcium, mag, others) to fix the balance in our AL brains that is either genetic, environmental or a combo.
Check out biorecovery centers - they do supplements and therapy I think. Founded by a woman who lost her son to depression related Alcoholism, a terribly sad story. She wrote two books _Seven Weeks to Sobriety_ and _Depression Free Naturally_ both adovocating certain protocols depending on your symptoms/cravings. You could buy the books or you could buy the supplements, both via mail, and both books will show you what to buy if you don't want to import your supplements, and what to take when in great detail and what they will help with and why you should take them.
Since I know from your posts that you have willpower, you probably have the ability to follow their supplement protocol at home, and instead of $30K it's more like $300US, and helps tremendously. I couldn't follow it because it was supplements about every 2 hours, a different combo each time. Gaba, tryptophan, omega 3, vitamins, aminos, etc.
