Bruun's Titting UP

The mother? I have heard of that as in starter, and I have Braggs organic unfiltered, but gross, I don't want to drink mother. LOL

Definition of MOTHER OF VINEGAR

:
a slimy membrane composed of yeast and bacterial cells that develops on the surface of alcoholic liquids undergoing acetous fermentation and is added to wine or cider to produce vinegar —called also mother

Bruun,

I am sure it's too late if it developed on the surface of any alcoholic liquid in my day!

Does anyone grind their teeth when they sleep? Pre-bac I used to do it, and my dentist made me a nightguard last week to wear at night, which of course I haven't yet because it's a ridiculous contraption. The idea came into my head a couple days ago that maybe I stopped because of the bac, but it's wishful thinking at this point. Anyone have any experience with it?

I've been a nighttime teeth clencher for years. I bought one of those generic mouth guards that you soften in boiling water and then shape to your teeth. It definitely helps, when I remember to wear it! It at least keeps me from ripping up the insides of my cheeks. I would imagine that the ones that dentists make would be more comfortable - thinner and more form fitting. I've been tempted to get one from my dentist for awhile now.
Anyway, on the lower bac levels, I definitely find myself clenching my teeth less when I sleep. These are the same dose ranges that make me sleep really well, to where my whole body is completely relaxed.

Unfortunately, higher bac levels (i.e., what I'm on now!) have the opposite effect on me. I really need to start sleeping with the mouthguard again because the inside of my mouth is full of welts from where I've chewed them in my sleep. (I paint a lovely picture, huh? :H)

Lovely, yes, I do appreciate vivid pictures. Really.

I'm a grinder from way back and the bac helped me reduce it, as does less alcohol. And less stress. AND lying on my back with a pillow under my head ... but that makes me sleep open mouthed (I probably get half the spiders in the house in there nightly) but that's better than grinding. I have a night guard/retainer which helps.

I had figured that this nightguard would be thin, but it's quite bulky. Thanks for nothing, dad! (my dentist)

Although it still beats the Bionator that my orthodontist actually expected me to wear when I was ten. This is supposed to be in your mouth all the time, and you can't even open your mouth to talk! WTF was that guy thinking?!

Bragg's definitely has it! Read the back of the bottle.
Also, take a look at all of the slimey stuff that's collected on the bottom - that's part of the mother. You're supposed to shake it up each time so you get some each time you use it. YUM!

Kombucha (if you get a raw one like G.T.'s) also has it. And kombucha also has a decidely vinegary flavor, which I happen to love. If you like ACV, you'll probably like kombucha too.

bruun, you don't need to drink the mother, but it's very good to have her there. you'll find her in the kind isolde describes: raw and unfiltered organic. the best kind to drink.

Pete, I do NOT want to kiss you after seeing that picture. That is all. :H

No teeth grinding here. Got plenty of other problems though LOL! We can start with my fat ass and my sugar addiction and go from there.

Is, I have ACV raw with mother in my cupboard and always forget to drink it/use it. :egad: This discussion is a good reminder. I've never really gotten used to the taste so when I drink it like you do, I have to hold my nose and chug fast. (something I have experience with, so no problem there!) I've not tried Kombucha. I know it's good for us but ..... I haven't worked myself up for that.

Bruun, I am imagining you with spiders crawling in your wide open mouth at night. If I dream about spiders tonight it's YOUR FAULT! :H

Hi Ginger, LadyLush, and other BruunFriends stopping by. If Murph is lurking, HELLO!

Dual Disorders is very interesting. I'm getting ready to re-read the unit on Anxiety Disorders in preparation for the midterm. That makes me think of you all here as there is often a mention that bac seems to help with anxiety which is connected to the drinking.

The older views of treatment for dual disorders involved either completely separate diagnosis and treatment of the disorders, or a diagnosis (which was often wrong) of "primary" and "secondary." The "primary" would be treated first on the assumption that the secondary would automatically resolve if the primary was fixed. Well, not so great outcomes with that approach apparently. The more modern view is that it really doesn't matter whether the mental issue or the substance issue came first - treat both in a coordinated fashion with one unified treatment plan.

On a separate note, I thought you guys might be interested to know that bac crops up here and there in my classes (which I'm only at the very beginning level, and have not taken pharmacology yet). It has popped up here and there (not high dose version) along side brain scan images showing reduction in excitement at substance use triggers. (cocaine in one example) I will probably be taking pharmacology next semester and will be very interested in what the instructor knows about high dose bac trials, etc.

OK - enough babble. Time to get back to the books. Bruun, I hope you are having a fabulous day and looking forward to a good weekend.

Okay, now I'm really grossed out. Kombucha mother is like a mushroom or pancake according to wiki. Here's a pic from wiki, hope it posts.

And I'm trying to develop a liking for vinegar, but over the years I have found it less and less appealing. I thought it was because my PH was off but its not, so now I figure its because my acid balance is off. My family all loves vinegar so I think its whatever is f'ed up inside me needs adjusting. I do like organic apple cider vinegar best. And disgustingly enough, I like whatever is at the bottom but in the bottles I have of ACV there is no mushroom pancake. Its more like unfiltered beer, or so I like to imagine. LOL

Is, do you ever eat fermented foods? Kimchi? My farmers market has a booth but I can't really take it, the smell (of the samples) drives me away. Attached files

pete! is that you? are those your teeth and lips?! i can see why the ladies love you. my son grinds his teeth a bit (pre-bac), and i find it VERY alarming. i'm thinking he needs hypnotherapy.

kombucha is really, really good! and a great alternative to ale, as it's bubbly and sour (not bitter, though), and it's appreciated by the guts. i bonded with a colleague over it today. i think we're the only two employed in sullivan county who drink it. (they're a bit backward there. unlike me.)

try to remember to brush your teeth after acv; its acidity can corrode the enamal enamel. enema?

dg, what degree/program are you studying for? dying to know... hi you, too, dg!

um, kimchee is really good, bruun. it tastes WAY better than it smells. try it!

i used to make my own kombucha. it is decidedly simple, but only if you don't mind what looks like a science project on your counter. it's expensive to buy (over 4 dollars a bottle), so worth it to do yourself if you love it as much as i do. your mushroom becomes your friend, and needs tending about as much as a chicken does. (and it GROWS, so you'll have to find a friend with whom to share it, or you'll have to brace yourself and throw some into the compost from time to time. or feed it to your cats.) you won't have a mushroom in your vinegar, bruun. mushrooms are not mothers, not in the same sense, anyway. (btw, if any of you do decide to make your own kombucha, don't go all purist and use proper raw organic sugar; the regular white crap works better.)

glad if i've been of any help!
