    Bruun's Titting UP

ifulovelife2;1206711 wrote: Oh gosh, I do so hope I haven't missed it; watching a recording of figure skating, simply isn't anywhere near as rewarding.

See? I LOVE my girlfriends here at Bruun's place. I can always count on you to understand EVERYTHING!!! :l So Brenda, are you watching too????

LoOp you are of course right on about the calorie angle. I'm a 1 TBS girl myself most days.

Pete - it's good to see you! And always keeping it honest with the guys.

    Good morning Bruun & friends!

I'm strugging to finish a Human Development assignment that for some reason I just think is silly. I have to watch 3 TV shows from different decades and note stereotypes. There was a time I would have been happy to have TV watching as homework. When did I get so old and stodgy that I can't appreciate such an assignment?????

My BIL was here last night - he was pheasant hunting yesterday and his prized hunting dog disappeared. :upset: Very sad - he is out the door to go back and keep looking. I'm going to hug my doggies today and be glad that for today, they are all here safe and sound.

    Have a good day all...

Where can I get a good brand of coconut oil?

      Thanks, sorry to rush!

      LL:l
      Hey LL,

I had been using Vitamin Shoppe's brand - make sure you always get organic unrefined extra virgin coconut oil though, whichever kind you get.

I recently started using Tropical Traditions Gold Label coconut oil - Welcome to Tropical Traditions. It supposedly has the highest level of antioxidants of any brand. And they recently had a great deal on the gallon size; it worked out to be even cheaper than Vitamin Shoppe's.

Hi Is!!! I too got a gallon awhile back. Have you ever seen any sort of maximum shelf life recommendation? I haven't.....but a gallon lasts a long time!

        How are you today?

Excellent point. The calorie content definitely has to be taken into account. When I started taking 3 tbsp. a day, I was keeping a food journal and adding up the calories to keep everything in check. Now I've dropped down to 2 tbsp. a day. And lately I've pretty much had to force myself to eat for lack of appetite, so even with the CO, I'm probably not getting as many calories as I need.

Well, except for last night! My soon to be SIL is the queen of cake pops, and she made about 80 of them for the rehearsal dinner (which was actually a casual barbecue at their house). Holy shit, are they good! And dangerous! You bake a cake, let it cool, then crumble it up and mix it with frosting, chill it, then shape it into balls, chill it again, then put a stick in each ball and coat it in melted chocolate. Crack on a stick! Lo0p, you would LOVE them!!! :h

It's a good thing I had an intense workout yesterday. And breakfast this morning is baked chicken and stir fried veggies. I didn't do too bad on the AL front either. 4 drinks over the course of about 5 hours. I definitely wasn't fixated on the alcohol, I think I was mostly just drinking it because it was in front of me. The cake pops were another story, however! Once I had the first one, I couldn't stop thinking about them! :H After tonight, I'm off sugar again.

DG, the shoes I got (which my ortho recommended) is a brand called Spira - Spira? Footwear Powered with WaveSpring? Technology. Supposedly they're wonderful for people with back problems, as well as any kind of joint problems (knee, ankle, etc). I've been experiencing back pain again myself (feels almost like a pinched nerve that never goes away), so I'm hoping that the new shoes will help alleviate some of that as well. If you end up deciding to give them a try, I recommend ordering from Zappos. Gotta love the free shipping both ways, just in case you order something that doesn't fit just right. Spira shoes run small and narrow - I had to go up a full size. And even with the wide width, they could have just a tad more room in the toe box. But I'm sure they'll break in quickly. I wore them all day yesterday and they felt great.

Well, I've got a busy day ahead of me, so it's time to get moving. I hope everyone has a wonderful day! The weather here is absolutely beautiful, it won't make it out of the low 70s today and the sky is brilliantly blue and clear. I went outside this morning and just stood still for a moment, closing my eyes and inhaling that cool fresh air. Ahhh!

Does anyone know of a down side to coconut oil? Other than eating too much of it too soon if you have Candida overgrowth, and feeling lousy from too much die off at once, I haven't heard of any. I'm interested in what you guys have heard. (I don't think there is much reason NOT to eat it?????)

LL - I think mine might be Topical Traditions? I like mine to be organic and extra virgin. (I started to say "like Brenda" but then I deleted it. Don't want to start trouble you know! Brenda is NOT a coconut - she's a chick.)

IS - what kind of shoes did you get? (I'm sorry if I missed it! Hard to keep up with you lovelies - we're a busy, active group!) Would they be of interest to a back surgery survivor? (me)

                DG
DG, I use TT too because its organic and not chemically/cooked although Is says its heated, it seems a little over processed (no coconut smell at all) so I wonder.
Yes Is, am taking the CO in my green tea of mornings (and the DE too for BP albeit not in tea). I hate putting it in there too hot, though, so I wait til the tea is cooler - I don't want to kill the remaining good bacteria after all! I'm not TRYING to cook with it in this dosing. I also can't watch my bp right now bkz lost the cuff somewhere in my two months of booze. Three beers only the last three nights. That's something to crow about, compared to where I was. I guess this will be my fourth time this year doing this, and I learn more each time. More on this later. Still trying to catch up from your busy typing yesterdays! And Reg I type fast but I have three keyboards so it screws me up - I'm not as fast as I would be if I was just on one. That's what you get when you learn typing in high school (most of the girl did in the 70's) and used it in my first two jobs after college (non of the boys did!) so now it finally pays off.

                More later!

Glad to see you pop in again Brenda - worried for a while you'd been kazaamed.

DG hope your BIL finds his pup - mine just got off the treadmill. I'm having my green tea with coconut oil and then readying for Dad's visit.

My dad is the fun and easy going type, he was a salesperson in a low stress (mostly) sales job back in the pension days, and he traveled up and down the coast where he would camp out in a low rent hotel for a couple of days here and there and visit current customers, so these were not high pressure new sales. He doesn't understand my high pressure sales job with all the politics, and how it can be so brutal. I get paid more than he did, but it's also 30 years later and I have no pension coming. Meanwhile, Dad thinks Medicaid pays too much - note Dad can afford a secondary insurance plan for the rest, and so exclaimed that the out of pocket was ridiculous, we need to scale back the public giveaways. Which of course makes me think we should be scaling back on HIS social security which comes out of MY paycheck because he has a pension and so is double dipping. I think people of a certain income level shouldn't get social security - my parents make over $100K/yr retired and have no house payments! I need SS to be there for me, I've been paying into it every year since I was 15 and that is a LONG time folks. This is one of the arguments he and I have, he's all safe and rich, and he votes with and for his own wallet at the same time that he worries for his kids.

My parents are watching their six kids struggle, except one who makes a ton of dough and dates the silicone spray-tan bikini squad and I ain't him. Him, I'm seeing tonight with Dad for dinner, not looking forward to it. He's been a boss his whole life and has no concept of relating to others on an equal level.

Before I forget CO is great for makeup removal too!! Wipe on, wipe off! No water, no mess.

Edit - noticing the CO plus warm tea really warms me up like nothing else in the cold morning.

Also, this post took soooo long to process I thought it was a goner!

Hi Bruun! And friends too! I will look for your other thread in holistic about the salt. My BIL found his dog!!!!! :yougo: Or I should say, one of our customers who lives down that way found his dog. LOL - Jake is one heck of a champion bird dog. He found his way to the side lines of this huge conservation area where they are breeding birds for the conservation area. :H I'm so happy for BIL and family that Jake is found. He will be getting a GPS device very soon I think.

Well - I need to get my nose back in my books. I finished my TV watching homework against my will. Now back to getting ready for my mid term. New 4-Saturday 1 credit hour class starts tomorrow morning. Evidence Based Treatment - the new required way of the world. Should be very interesting. Will be learning a lot of examples of "how it was" and "how it needs to be now" in terms of addiction treatment.

Nighty night all! Bruun, I'm so happy for you tapering off AL. Don't let your Dad and/or brother frustrate you into moving off your target. NOT WORTH IT. They will be whoever they are whether you drink or not. (fortunately or unfortunately LOL!)

Hi Bruun great to hear that your still cutting down on the AL a few beers over 3 nights is fantastic keep it up, lots of you seem to be very knowligable on here about all kinds of things including nutirtion and supps as well as meds, Ive never paid muck attention to nutrition, just eat what I feel like or whats there, I think I will slowly look at improving my diet, it must make you feel better to eat well.
Talking of that thanks Is and Loop for putting the idea of making extra sugar rich pops to munch on, I dont think I needed it but it sounds yummy, my son has been off school all week with a chest infection and I have baked 4 cakes in the past 5 days!
Im glad the dog is back home safe and sound Doggy, one of my dogs can jump a six foot fence and has run away a couple of times, it is so worrying when I look and see hes gone, I have raised the fence now to about 7 1/2 foot so far he doesnt seem to be able to scale that.

I bought some coconut oil this morning and I've just had a spoonful. It tastes crap. It's like oily coconut, which I should really have been expecting I suppose. I assume you're not meant to eat it straight from the jar, so I'm at the moment trying it in my coffee and it makes the coffee taste of coconut. And you're meant to cook with it? But everything will taste coconutty. I'm beginning to think you lot are on a massive wind up or are quite barking mad.

People do it eat from the jar sometimes. I'll do it if I'm in a rush, though it's definitely not my preferred method of ingestion! When you cook with it, you really don't taste the coconut flavor. I've gotten so used to it, that the coconut doesn't even really stand out to me anymore.
I hope you made sure to get the unrefined organic kind.. ?

Just a quick fly by to say hello! Had class today - the first day of another intense, 4 Saturday one credit hour gig. This one is interesting and I thought about you guys. "Evidence Based Treatment."

The treatment centers that I hear so much negative about around here - i.e. the ones who are basically just an extension of AA are going to be in serious trouble if they don't change. And they haven't got much time left either or federal & state funing is going to dry up. It's very exciting to be a part of at this time of change in the treatment world.

For anyone who is looking for info on various topics in addiction, mental health, etc. check out the publications on the The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration - Homepage site. There are all kinds of "TIP" manuals (Treatment Improvement Protocol). I am using TIP42 in my dual disorders class to aid in some of my homework and it's a great resource. I just ordered TIP 34, 35 and 47 for this new class and as a help for future classes I'll be taking. The books are free and even the ground shipping is free!!! So if anyone is curious about the new directions....

Well, I'm going to get back to the books - Midterm is Tuesday. Hope everyone is having a great evening!
