    Bruun's Titting UP

The chemicals and the processed food have alot to do with the fat in the US, in my opinion. There's so much toxic build up Consider the local deli counter, or the local subway restaurant (sandwich chain) - all the meats have nitrates and sugar and more stuff that make it fattening. Sugar = fat. Starch = sugar = fat. Starch is in everything - canned soups, to thicken them up, even some cheeses are adulterated by the stuff. And of course, we haven't even broached the GMO aspects of frankenfood on our bodies.

I couldn't agree more. I also believe that all of the processed food is a huge contributor to cancer. Just my belief. And in that vein:

We raw feed our dogs. Mr. Doggy did the research on it during one of the big dog food recalls about....5 years ago maybe? Our dogs have done really well health wise eating that way. Especially our older beagle - he was starting to have some health problems and the raw feeding took YEARS off of him. Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats was a basic book on the subject that even I could understand while swimming in vodka.
I raw feed my dog too, and she couldn't be healthier. Perfect teeth, no dog smell, no skin issues, no stinky breath, etc., etc. And I think that domesticated animals only began having human health issues (like cancer) when we started feeding them processed food. It's just not their natural diet. Cats especially are PURE carnivores. Out in the wild, these animals are not building up a fire and cooking their food before they eat it, and they do just fine!
My boxer eats mostly chicken (because it's cheap!) but she also gets organ meat and fish mixed in regularly. On occasion she gets a treat of a turkey leg, which takes her FOREVER to eat, or some beef, or pork, or tripe or tongue or whatever. Depends on the sales!

My cats raw feed themselves all spring to the dismay of gophers, rats, mice and baby birds that fell from the nest. I think it's all the babies that don't know how to caretake themselves out of the hole/nest etc, and a dedicaed orange cat who will sit at a hole for HOURS. Actually, that cat doesn't eat her kill, my other cat does eat hers tho. The latter was a feral trapped cat so that would explain the difference.

I also give them pieces of raw food and sometimes they eat it and sometimes not.

Isolde, I LOOOVE boxers!!! Would love to see a pic! We too feed lots of chicken due to $$$. We have a dog friend who is a police officer. In the winter when he spots a dead (road kill) deer on the side of the road, he will go back after shift and pick it up. He brings it here and we carve it up in yard and split it for our respective dogs. They love it and FREE is a great price!!!

You are so right about the SMELL. Especially the beagle whose HEAD used to stink like something rotten to the core. (the head???) He also loves to sleep on mommy's pillow. YIKES. GONE with raw feeding. It really is amazing.

The older I get, the more I can feel the difference when I eat decent maily whole real food, and when I do a dumpster dive into sugar / processed carby land. (I really need to stop that - I'm sure this physical stuff is a huge warning!!!)

Bruun, cats are.....cats. I love them! Would like to have a cat or several again one day.

Boxers are very cool dogs. They probably don't shed either.

My dog doesn't have dog breath, and he only has doggie smell after he gets out of the pool (daily unfortunately) and then he just smells like wet dog. How long did it take your beagle to get better on raw? I had this guy on it for 3 months or so, with no difference except perhaps MORE scratching.

Feeling very anxious today. Lithium Orotate no help. May resort to xanax.

IIRC, it was far less than 3 months for us to see very positive trends. That is really making me wonder if maybe there was an alergy problem with the meat source?

I kept thinking that they feed all these animals corn/grain and that's exactly what the allergy foods do NOT have in them. So maybe....

I was feeding my dogs 100% raw for the better part of last year, but since starting the new job I've regressed and gone back to feeding them Canidae. I'll go back to raw again sometime, but it involves SO many trips to the grocery store! I don't have much freezer space...

I know the old beagle cannot handle any beef... If you try it again maybe do one meat only for a week at a time and see how that goes before switching to another.

Serenity, we figured out exactly how much chicken, turkey and fish we need per week and one of the local grocers packages it exactly the way we want it. They have it ready for me in a cart in their freezer every Friday afternoon so I can just walk in, go to the meat department, grab my cart and head straight to the check out line. It's so convenient now I'm kicking myself that we didn't ask for this sooner! They also order "catfish nuggets" which are way less expensive than the catfish fillets. They make sure they always have enough for our order which is nice. Maybe there is a grocer near you (or meat market?) that would just have your order ready for you like that? Although Canidae is good. (well, if you are a dog. I don't want to eat it myself!)

                  Doggy love for all!

I can't imagine any grocer doing that here. Big chain supermarkets don't cater to people like that, do they? The butchers are extremely expensive. Hmmm. Sounds like a good deal DG. I have little freezer space too.

It's funny Bruun. A long time ago I spoke with the head butcher at the place where I now get my meat. He had NO interest in doing a weekly order like that. He is still the head butcher at this place but I just talked to a different lady in the department. Turns out she's a doggy lover and was happy to do this order for me. She also says things like....are you sitting down????....."Thank you for your business." SHOCKING!!

This store isn't a huge chain but is a regional type chain. I think the store front doesn't matter as much as finding a human who is willing to listen and help. Worth a try anyway. It makes things really convenient to just stop and grab that cart (and they have everything in boxes!!). Just take it home and slap it in the freezer.

So how are you doing otherwise Bruun? You are just rocking your diet and AFness. :yougo:

                        Hey DG,

Struggling a bit on the diet and AF, and having panic attacks over the same things you mentioned in Neva's thread, worrying about the future and the like.

THANK GOD FOR XANAX. I think I would have spun out last night without cheating on my diet or AF, my anxiety level was so high and those are coping mechanisms - can't exercise much at the moment. Now I'm trying to focus on what needs to be done today, and what I can do tonight to make tomorrow and the future better.

All that said, I seemed to have skipped part of your previous post about Elizabeth Taylor. Yes, I understand completely how you came to appreciate your name, that's pretty funny. I knew a couple of "Dudleys" in my life and one went by his middle name which was his mother's maiden name so quite odd. But I would have too! :H Talk about a name you can't shorten. "Hey, Dud, how you doin'?"

Lost 8lbs on my very stringent (800 kcal / day) and AF for 10 days. Feeling great today.

Congrats Bruun! :yougo: Especially on 10 Days of AFness. For me, the weight was IMPOSSIBLE to manage when I was drinking. It's still work while AF, but at least it's possible.

Wow. You are right about Dudley. Maybe it's good I wasn't a boy!! :H

10 points Bruun, your diet is slightly more disciplined than mine, it would appear! I console myself with the thought that I am a novice!

DG, your sig reminds me of that other saying: A smart man will get himself out of trouble that a wise man wouldn't have got into.

I like that. So...if I put both of those things together and take an honest assessment, I think I'm a fool who is working to become smart. Wise??? Well, maybe in my next life!
