Bruun's Titting UP
I remember (barely) functioning with those hangovers. Every.single.day. I don't know how I did it. You couldn't pay me to go back to that life. Stick to your guns my friend. Keep takin' whatever pills are helping and keep doing whatever else helps.

Bruun's Titting UP
I don't know how I could drink half a litre of hard alcohol and go to work each day. Its really amazing, what we are capable of. We need to give ourselves credit for being very strong, even when we feel so weak by giving in. We're here, we're trying, that's alot.
I feel like I'm on a different plane than I was a month ago - right now I can't FATHOM going back to that daily hangover. Its like that was a different version of me.
I find it interesting that so many of us are in our 40's and 50's here. We got to a certain point where we realize that the booze is -and has been - a deal breaker, a life buster. I look at young'uns like Lo0p and Isolde in wonder that they wanted to fix their drinking so young. They are so ahead of the curve, they're recovering and still have their lives ahead of them and many many decisions will be so much better for them. When I was their age, I wanted to party!!! I guess that's the fast fall vs the slow fall into alcoholism. If you fall hard and fast, you discover heaven or hell when you're young.
I'm intent upon heaven.

My little rah-rah for you today.
I think we're pretty strong/brave/determined, too. Helps me to keep in mind what can be accomplished given what we accomplish! (I wanted out, ftr, when I was in my early 20s. First time trying I was about 26? Who knows? aargh.)
You sound different. It's very exciting and fun!

Did you? Very enlighted twenty something! I was all about going out and dancing the night away bombed.
Thanks for the cheers Neva, it's really nice!! I do sound different, maybe it's that sober me that's been hiding these twenty long years.
Look at us six months ago! Bleary drunk typing together.

I was all about the party in my twenties (and thirties) too, sadly. Ne good for you recognizing the problem early. I agree about LoOp and Is too - so good for them with the possibility of lots of good years ahead without AL in the drivers seat. I too love the way you sound now Bruun.
Hey - check out the worm in my avatar! :egad: That thing ate every leaf off of the tomato plant on my porch! I hope those things aren't spawning out in the big garden! I'M NOT TOUCHING IT!!!!
Do you think I could qualify for the "whose got the biggest one" contest on Murphy's thread?

Ha! Not that it did any damn good. I wasn't so enlightened as much as drunk, dumped, jobless, quit school, and my bf cheated on me with his ex-wife, who was supposed to be a lesbian at that point. good times. Add insult to injury, I lived in the suburbs. (no offense meant, they're not for me! Be glad of it if you like it out there!!)
Spent some quality time 12 stepping, decided to take the test, took it, and .... guess?! I PASSED! Suddenly I wasn't alcoholic anymore and could drink normally! whatev.
Yes, we sound decidedly better, even in print, than we did last year, for sure! woop woop!

Bruun's Titting UP
Hello again! Feel like I'm crawling inside my skin. Not sure why, it's not like I've been drinking daily and suddenly quit. I drank too much last night and I guess this is where hair of the dog would make me feel better. Took 30mg baclofen instead and 300mg gabapentin but still crawling..... Arg. Xanax isn't TOUCHING this feeling and I took 2mg.

Ditto the above two posts Bruun. Reread your last several posts if you need strength, they are a very good source of inspiration.
And DG, ffs, just flick the thing off! What do you think it's going to do to you? Use a stick if you must, but don't cower in fear from a worm! I get an hilarious mental image of just one of these things slowly chewing its way through all your hard-grown produce while you tremble at the edge of the vege patch. Man up!

No manning up here. I doused it with Sevin.
Bruun - I hope you hung in there last night. I know when that horrible feeling and desire and craving strikes, it is very very hard to ignore. Please remember that eventually the feeling WILL pass. We don't have to feed the beast.
I found it very helpful to DO something active when those feelings came. Since I had trouble thinking straight in the midst of those strong urges early on, I actually kept a list with me. The list had all sorts of stuff on it from the practical to the down right silly. But it was nice to just pull my list out and pick something without having to think to much. Active stuff was always more effective for me than passive stuff like reading, watching TV, etc.
This is such a bitch to get through, but so worth it.
