    Bruun's Titting UP

Congrats Pete, that's great, you should feel proud of yourself.

Yeast/candida, google it - basically too much crap in your diet, specifically sugar (in our case alcohol) feeds the yeast that is naturally part of your gut along with other beneficial bacteria, all this stuff keeps in balance unless you do something to upset it. Alcohol and antibiotics and many processed foods can kill the beneficial bacteria, which is why probiotics like kambucha and other fermented foods are so popular on this site. So, you had big die off, and then you probably felt better after that? Thrush, yeast infections, itchy areas on your body (crotch, scalp, ass, etc) are signs of yeast overgrowth. Yours probably due to alcohol like for many of us.

Hopefully I did a decent summary of this, if not, I know Is and DG and others will chime in.

Thanks, Bruun, I am proud. And a couple weeks ago I did start noticing an itchy crotch. The doctor didn't say anything about yeast though, he just gave me some special shampoo and sent me on my way.

Pete, I thank you profusely for the spectacular belly laugh!! :H:H First one all day. (today was a long one too - helping a relapsing friend into rehab which was the easy part - dealing with her jackass of a husband was the hard part. No wonder she relapses....anyway......) Did the doctor also give you some penicillin for your itch? If so, that can cause a yeast infection. So our list of possible causes expands. We now have:

        1. Alcohol
        2. Sugar and processed foods
        3. Antibiotics
        4. VD

Congrats on the new job! WOO HOO!!!! And HUGE congrats on Day 4 no cigs!!!! I thought I was going to die without my cigs for the longest time. That is a hard one - at least it was for me. I love seeing life looking up as we start recovering!!

        Brutus, you did great!

OK. Now I gotta REALLY go study.

            howdy all!

seems i've gotten my eyes pryed out of my navel and i can put them over here for a change.

so funny you guys thought pete was serious about the coconut oil! but pete, have you tried it on your crotch? could be fun, and might kill the itch.

nyc is a helll of a place! in good ways and bad. i lived there for 11 years, and now when i go back (which is seldom) i feel the energy thrumming around me and it's a bit oppressive. when i was a weekender for three years, i would come up here and sleep for 12 hours straight each night. i think there's a real drain in being around so much concrete and so many driven people. as they say, it's a nice place to visit, but i wouldn't want to live there.

i'm off to fecth the lad. today i am tired and a little sad. wish i had an event to prepare for the likes of isolde's. day-after-day feels dreary when november nears and it gets cold. but i suspect a good night's sleep -and no ganja- will cure this mood.

hope everyone else is feeling very well!

            ciao for now, nenes.

hi rudyb! somehow i can't picture you living in nyc after hearing so much about your space. at least it sounds to me like you have space. do you have more rowing to look forward to or is it getting too cold for that? it was supposed to get up to 70 today like 'one last hurrah' of summer but i think it only made 65. the rest of the week its only going to be 50 for a high. i think summer is over.

Pete, I can never tell when your serious and kidding. I hope the shampoo clears up your itch. You were being serious about that, right?

Hey Ru, I thought Pete was joking too but then I'm not getting alot of his humor lately so I thought I'd just shut up. And then he talked about the yeast die-off, so that's certainly a possibility, isn't it? Hey there DG, think he was not joking about the itch but probably CO would help that if applied directly AND if applied internally, it suffocates things.

I used to live in SF, so I hear you about missing NYC and also being glad to be around less thrum and concrete. It was quieter in SF, tho, because the fog blanketed everything and everyone's windows (except mine apparently) were always closed, and it was much quieter than other places I've lived in outside of cities.

70 degrees? DG, where do you live? Just give me your whole address, that should suffice.

It got up into the low 80s here today! It's very pleasant in the mornings though, a nice 65?. It's oppressively hot and humid during the summer, but our autumn/winter weather is damn near perfect.

Pete, I live in a far suburb of Chicago. I would give you my full address but I don't need any peeping toms. I wouldn't want the truth to be revealed about my muffin top or anything.

Is - I lived in the Clearwater area for several years - went there for a job. I traveled to south Florida periodically and OH MY there is a big temp / humidity difference even within the state! And then Clearwater is more hot/humid than where my brother lives in Jacksonville. I guess it all seems hot/humid at first coming from the north but then later I could really feel the difference between all those places. I miss the sunshine in the winter for sure!

Happy Wednesday Brutus & friends & lurkers! I have GOT to get some words on paper today for this term paper. I'm pretty sure it will begin flowing if I can just get a start. I've been struggling with the start. So there you have my mission for today. What is your mission?

My mission was to get an appt. with an orthopedist. Despite not working out since it started acting up, my knee has gotten much worse. To the point that I am hobbling. :upset:
I am happy to say, Mission Accomplished! Got a recommendation from a friend for a very well renowned surgeon/sports medicine specialist who happens to be right down the street from my work. He's one of the team physicians for the Dolphins and the Marlins too. I'm seeing him tomorrow. Yay!

I actually think it might be related to the IC. I've read that joint and muscle aches sometimes accompany IC (despite having a mild case, I seem to have ALL of the symptoms that one can have, I just keep trying to knock them out one by one). I was experiencing some aches on and off in both knees and ankles for a couple of weeks, and I wasn't working out because of that. Well, also because I was really depressed and had no energy. But apparently when I started working out again, my joints were compromised, and those couple of back to back runs and then the elliptical session hit me much harder than they should have.
Since I've been able heal/nullify all of the other symptoms that have popped up so far, I'm confident that I'll be able to get my joints back on track too. Until then I'll just do what exercise I can. Once my knee is cooperating with me again, I'm looking forward to taking some hot yoga classes. Not only will it be good to change things up, but apparently IC symptoms get worse with stress, so the mind-body connection of yoga should help with that.

And all of that brings me to my next mission today - take Cass's advice and go to the gym for back day (minus the deadlifts!). So far I haven't had an issue with any of my upper body joints or muscles (knock on wood).

I've decided that I'm going to start oil pulling again. I picked up some organic unrefined sesame oil at Whole Foods and will start tomorrow morning. For any of those unfamiliar with it - Oil Pulling, Wonderful Therapy, An Ancient Ayurvedic Method for Great Health.

I also started taking grapefruit seed extract. I think this was mentioned back on Roo's thread awhile back. When I was reading up on it, I couldn't believe all of the amazing testimonials. And apparently you can use this stuff for just about everything, including removing pesticides from produce and cleaning your house! I'm gonna hit my body with all of the health I can throw at it! Don't worry though, I've got a big Halloween party this Saturday and plan to be plenty unhealthy then, so it will even out. :H
