In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". Of all "anticraving medications used in animals, only one - baclofen - has the unique property of suppressing the motivation to consume cocaine, heroin, alcohol, nicotine and d-amphetamine"

Great clip Otter - thanks. Must see video.

Have to run - gotta give my frontal lobe a chance to weigh-in and tune down the volume on my "go" system (i.e. a little late on my 5:00 pm dose).

Thanks, Otter. Very intriguing. I'm missing the context, though. Who is speaking, who is she, what is this in relation to? Any ideas about that?

EVERYONE considering baclofen should watch that clip! They showed it to us at the center where I was treated. It is very helpful to realize that baclofen allows the frontal cortex time to "weigh in" and make a good choice.
Thanks for finding this for us

I agree, Sunny. But people will (rightfully) want to know where this comes from and who this expert is.

The great part of this video is that it will show the doubters that this is not a "magic" pill in terms of working in mysterious, magic ways. It is a pill that makes visible changes in the brain. That's more convincing than thousands of people's personal testimonies. In other words, this is working on something scientists can see and measure. Then the doubters will be able to open their eyes.

Really?!? That's one of the main links in the Consolidated Baclofen information Thread that I wrote back in '09.

Shows how much you people actually read my stuff... :upset:

Lo0p, I probably saw it then, and asked the exact same questions then. Remember what I told you about my memory? (or maybe you don't remember)

I've been looking for a better format to put all of the consolidated info, but I don't know how to make web pages. Any ideas?

                      Baclofen video

I've used this video to show Dr's and people in need of help, and it HAS opened minds, so THANKS LoOp. I read your stuff.

I read your stuff, too, Otter. And was involved in the episode that got locked or deleted in which your post saved a life. Thanks to you, too, for your utter dedication.

The consolidated info is awesome, but there's oh-so-much-more in the pages of this forum. So much intelligence and information is on this board, but after reading since August '09, I agree re needle and haystack. Some of the most significant information comes in just a sentence or two that then gets lost. And even whole mind-bending life-episodes drop off the radar for one reason or another. And the search function on this board is seriously fecked.

Hmmm . . . if only I had a parallel life, I could sort through all the threads during the past year and 1/2 since bac appeared on the scene to glean the information and experience that certainly saved my life and apparently a few others. Massive time consuming project unless it got split up among several and sorted say, a month at a time?

Even in my non-parallel life, I will spend some time going through the earliest posts about baclofen and see if that information can be collated into something useful.

Otter has the web-page thing happening. Hopefully you're not committed to only the UK, Otter?

That's the only idea I have. Who/what else?

Thanks. Yes. See Home - Baclofen UK. I want it to be a collaborative effort and may change the name. Any suggestions? All welcome. Fortunately I do have a parallel life.

The UK emphasis has to do with legal issues around treatment of alcoholism which is not that sexy or understandable by most people. I think I will reduce it but add some other human rights issues relating to treatment which can be more global, ie., degrading treatment under the the 8th amendment; denial of treatment to alcoholics and use of dirty drugs for treatment of alcoholism.

I am Canadian so have no reason to keep this a UK thing but was trying to focus on some issues which were important at the time I set the site up. The medical aspect is paramount though and that is universal. I am using a free website at the moment and I am not a techie. I want to make this a useful tool to as many people as possible.
