    Baclofen video

beatle;1053749 wrote: Thanks, Otter. Very intriguing. I'm missing the context, though. Who is speaking, who is she, what is this in relation to? Any ideas about that?
I would very much like to use this video in my quest to spread the word about baclofen, but without attribution, it is difficult to assess its worth, or, more importantly, to convince others.

I'm sure I've missed something somewhere, and I apologize for that.

but if I want to show this to somebody and say "Here is proof", I have to be able to say where it comes from.

You can find the video on Youtube. I don't know anything about it beyond that. I have edited the first post to help keep the video at the top of this board. If we can put key threads under the video it can be a hook to keep the important pages at the top and steer people in the right direction and give some structure to the experience on this forum.

In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". Of all "anticraving medications used in animals, only one - baclofen - has the unique property of suppressing the motivation to consume cocaine, heroin, alcohol, nicotine and d-amphetamine"

Your link led me to the video without a problem. There is a link to a French site, too.

But, I'm sorry, as a scientist (which I'm not), how can you use a video as "proof"? Help me, please.

BTW the professor in the video is Anna Childress, PhD, Addiction Treatment Research Center and dept of Pshchiatry, U Pen School of Medicine, Phiadelphia.
She has a chapter in my favorite book on the subject : Rethinking Substance Abuse

          Hope it helps

I noticed in the film that the words "Baclofen calms Amygdala connectivity" appear above the display of the two brain images. The Amygdala seems to be the key to craving, autism, bipolar.....

If my memory serves me (big IF there), Anna Childress is mentioned in OA's book.

Also, in my region of the country, UPenn as advertising heavily on the radio for heavy drinking volunteers to participate in a 6-week study related to AL moderation. Hmmm......

I think it might have been something on PBS. They had several episodes on addiction a few years back

No pinning around here, coverto. It's up to us to bump the thread or drop it into the relevant post or two. This one is a great one, I agree. Helped me make the decision to give up my bottle of beer a night habit! (which was all I was drinking there at the end, and still left me despairing.) ha!
