I haven't been here for months...I finally made up my mind to get the Naltrexone injection...but I am scared: the N pills made me severely dizzY, to the point that I could not drive at all. It was sort of like having half hallucinations before my eyes while my head was spinning. Now, my doc has assured me that the injection has no such side effects...but what I found online says the opposite and lists dizziness at the top...Any experience? I feel like that injection is my last resort...thinking of not doing it makes me desperate...:upset: but I remember how awful I felt while on the pills..awful awful awful...and without being able to drive school and work go to hell...once it's in my body, there is no way to take it out....Help.

Naltrexone injection

Naltrexone injection
Hi heart,
No experience with naltrexone, so I'm afraid I can't help you there, but have you looked into baclofen? Tons of threads around here that just end, because the person who started them, in similar situations to yours, has been cured and left to get on with life?
Good luck.

Naltrexone injection
You know, my doc said this is the only thing that works...she wouldn't prescribe anything else. I don't really want to start taking something that powerful w/o medical supervision, by myself...and the side effects I read on Bac don't sound too good either. I know you have a very good point, and I thank you, but, still, I don't wanna make things worse...the potential consequences of taking psycho medicines all on my own...it's scary...yeah I know I sound like a coward cos apparently I am scared of a ton of stuff...but I don't wanna go from alcoholic to alcoholic naive who made everything worse...Thank you though

Naltrexone injection
Fair enough. There aren't that many people here trying naltrexone, but if you do a search for "the sinclair method" you will find a website devoted entirely to it, where I am sure they will be able to offer more help.
Again, good luck, I hope this works out for you.

Naltrexone injection
I was initially put on oral baclofen and naltrexone. The baclofen worked so well and the SE were much less than on the oral naltrexone that I shortly stopped the naltrexone and just stayed on the bac. I understand that the injectible does its work at lower doses than oral for some reason but don't know about any of the side effects. I considered the injectible nal but opted to try the bac instead. Glad I did, but agree that it is best to be under doctor's care. Can you give ameisen's book to your doctor to consider? Since she is willing to use injectible med that cannot be removed once it is in you and lasts several weeks why would she not try you on an oral med that can be stopped or titrated up slowly should that be necessary? Good Luck. the last part of Ameisen's book is a comprehensive review of what is currently being used and the rationale for baclofen use in this condition.
good luck
