    FLOATER SAYING THANK YOU

:new:Hi all, Been floating around this forum for quite a while and would like to thank you all for your interesting and informative posts. Started on Bac four months ago. Going it alone 'sept for you guys and gals on here and listening to what you have to say and taking in your journeys. Decided to join you brave lot and ordered online. Doing great on 30 mgs spread out at 5 mgs through the day and was completely indifferent from the first half tab. Not thought of booze since and don't intend to ever touch the stuff again but more on my story later. Just wanted to ask if anyone has had experience of really bad aching muscles and joints as I have. Downed the dose by 10 mg 2 months in and the pain went but came back again when I changed to Pacifen 10 from Teva. Read on here that they are not as strong as the Teva and so my dosage was cut down too quickly I guess. Back up today to 30 mgs. of Pacifen today. Also have ringing in my ears since starting on the Pacifen which seems a bit better with going back up to 30 mgs. Any comments on this welcomed. :thanks:

    FLOATER SAYING THANK YOU

 Hello CrazyFox and good on you to start this thread. A floater like yourself, I also appreciate the peeps on here! Getting back to you on the aches all over as I have them too. Also on a low dose which works fine for me too but find that the aches are getting better with some days when non at all appear. No ringing in the ears yet but I was on Teva and will be starting on Pacifen shortly so let you know if the ringing appears. I've learnt on here that Pacifen is a weaker tab so should take that into consideration when changing over.

All the best and good decision to start bac for you too it seems - I can only say that the good of bac outweighs any SEs for me. I'm sure that some of the senior contributors will post with more info on these SEs and maybe suggest a way of alleviating them. :clapclap:

      FLOATER SAYING THANK YOU

      Hi, and :welcome:

I do know muscle aches from reducing the Bac-dose too fast after longer-term treatment. It's a quite logical rebound effect. Never had it as a side-effect.

About ringing in the ears: (L-)Baclofen has been tested for tinnitus, so GABA-B is affecting that system. I've read this can happen as a (transient) side effect too.

Prescribing doctors are of course preferable, especially when reaching higher doses (which you probably won't need). If you have a good source for Baclofen the great experience of other users here will help you a lot. So doctors are not a necessity.

        Thanks Ogel and Sober.

I'm now thinking that Pacifen does not suit me but can't see that Teva Bac is sold online anymore! Can anyone help on this? Also, advice on Lioresal - is this the same strength as Teva? it is 5 times as expensive as Pacifen though and I have limited funds to do this - thankfully I only need small dose. If worse comes to the worse then has anyone been on pacifen after using another and could tell me how much Pacifen is equal to 10 mg Teva Bac? The ringing in my ears is horrid just now and didn't get it till I started pacifen. :upset:

I had tinnitus quite badly the whole time, purely from not keeping a stable dose. As soon, as I stopped increasing my dose, it faded after only a day or two. You sound like you are getting the effect from the brand change, so I would guess it will fade fairly soon as your body adjusts to the different baclofen.

I was unable to switch brands, so can't chip in on the effect of switching...

Still, small price to pay! Congratulations on your success!

:thanks: Bleep - appreciate the responses I have had on the site and have a clearer picture now of how I can handle this. It's scary doing this on my own - being hooked on the drink is a lonely place. Glad I found this forum and feel fortunate to be able to turn to you all for help. Will keep reading and aiming for 12 months before deciding on a maintenance dose. Envisaging staying on bac now for the rest of my life as I hate the thought of another anxiety/stress/panic attack ever, ever. The alternative would be to seek out an alternative herbal supp. but if bac works can't see what's wrong with sticking to it. Another thought that comes to mind to cause stress and anxiety is that they will make bac script only or that the price will rocket because of our success on it!!! aaaargh thank goodness I'm on bac now! but a horrid though eh? :upset:Crazy

Hey, great minds!! Saw a prog recently on Bruce Forsyth. He does loads of exercise every morning and is as lithe as a snake at 80 something! I say great minds as I did some exercises this morning just to warm up my muscles and joints and it makes a heck of a difference. As you say bac is a muscle relaxant................... so exercise, be they gentle, works in the mornings.:thanks:
