    Baclofen Side Effect?

Isolde;1057181 wrote: I don't know if BP has anything to do with it. I've had HBP for years now, and I've been classified as a "hard stick" for a long time. I've had blood taken both with uncontrolled and very well controlled BP, and it doesn't make a difference. They always have a hard time getting a vein on me. It's got to be someone with a LOT of experience doing it. I had to have blood taken in December, on relatively high levels of bac at the time, and luckily the nurse didn't have a problem, though she had to tap on the vein pretty hard for a bit before it would show itself.
I'm always well hydrated, so can't say how much that plays a role.

For me I can say that, even though I'm a hard stick, the bac didn't have an effect on having blood taken.
This is interesting to me, as I've always been an "easy stick" when it comes to blood draws. I have always had VERY low BP, and finding a vein has never been a problem for the phlebotomists. I've just always been quite...veiny, I don't know what the word would be for that.

If you can't get a vein, you have to pull the tourniquet tighter. A lot of nurses are wimps about this. Then clench your fist tight (not your whole arm, just your fist) repeatedly until you see veins popping out. Practice at home with a shoe string. If all else fails, you can spin your arm around really fast with the tourniquet on and let the centrifugal force pull the blood down your arm. You might want to tell the nurse what your doing beforehand in this case.

I've encountered some nurses that were just terrible at taking blood. They put the tourniquet on very loosely, they don't tell you to clench your fist, they just can't find veins, etc. Once a nurse pressed on a big blue vein bulging out of my arm, and said, "I'm feeling for a pulse so I know it's not an artery."

I believe light headedness is a common side effect of baclofen.
This nurse has taken blood from me perhaps ten times over the last 3 years. We were commenting that she's never had any problems with me before, it's usually straight in and away. I've met other nurses years ago who weren't very good at doing it, but this one is very good.

This is why I mean what I say when I've run through everything else it could be.

        To those of you who doubted and don't like me posting anything bad about Baclofen here are the facts;

        I was not dehydrated
I had eaten properly and had exercised that day
This nurse has taken my blood regularly without ANY problems

So I shall now put my neck on the line and ask someone in the medical field, possibly my GP who will probably give me short-shrift but who knows.

I'd take such a minor "pain in the neck" SE anytime for the freedom that Bac has given me. Worrying about minor side effects takes your eyes off the goal and doesn't account for the big picture.

UKB, perhaps this incident with the veins did not, in fact, really happen.

Nobody here has ever heard of or experienced this strange occurrence whilst on baclofen, whereas hallucinations/delusions have been reported by a number of people here.
Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Wow, Uk. Even sober, and not suffering any SEs, I'd be hard pressed to be that productive! Good for you!

Anyway I've been in pain since my fall during a bac/booze mix over 2 weeks ago. I can't do certain abdominal exercises on the floor any more, and getting up from a lying down position or bending at a certain angle causes sharp pain if my pelvis is at a certain angle. Since I fell directly onto the seat of my ass I'm thinking this is a cocyxx injury. I had been hoping to perhaps get back snowboarding this year, but if it is cocyxx then it's too risky because that sort of fall is quite common with that sport.

I'm so glad you've recovered so well from your injury! Congratulations! It's so important to get right back to the training following injury.

I've not recovered as such, I'm having to be very careful. Cocyxx problems don't hurt until you catch them, and then it's like an electric shock through you. If I get up at the wrong angler, even getting out onto the side at the swimming pool and hit it it's agony. I'm also putting off snowboarding or anything that could make it worse for a while.

I really hope you are being humorous here. I was up at the hospital yesterday for sure, for routine tests. I also have a car parking ticket from their car park to prove it. I can recount everything I did yesterday, and even still have the mark on my hand where she tried to get into a vein. I did not imagine this. Shall I ring them today and ask for confirmation this happened? So Beatle will believe it?

Another thing I did yesterday prior to this was have an estimate done for some work on my car, and the invoice for proposed work came with the post this morning. Do you think I hallucinated doing that?

I thought this forum was to help each other, discuss things we experience whilst using Baclofen? So any problems or possible issues can be brought to light.

I am trying very hard here, with a medication I was very sceptical about but have hunkered down and am taking it regularly heeding advice, hoping it will indeed help me.

If I'm going to have the P taken out of me I don't know why I'm bothering. Another member was hinting I shouldn't post stuff a few weeks ago, now I'm being told I just imagined stuff.

I don't have to contribute, I was simply looking to share experiences but I get the impression I'm not wanted around here at all. I've come to a possible breakthrough moment with baclofen, but all anyone can do is diss whatever I say.

Perhaps I would be better off on my own - just when I was feeling I was doing very well with the Baclofen, and about to sing it's praises. About time I went and got support elsewhere. Don't know where because I can't share my baclofen experiences in my outside life, but I'm fed up of getting slated all the time. Real pity since there may be others who go through the same process I have with this med.

I must admit, I didnt like what I saw you posting based on what appeared to me to be a half hazzard way of taking baclofen and then saying bad things about it (Again, just my perception) but I truly want you to stick with bac, become AF and be a poster child for bac. You are so skeptical as to whether it works or not that it is going to be sweet the day you hit your switch! So keep posting, ignore other people's opinions (including mine!) and go get that sobriety that you truly deserve! Try not to pay any attention to the posts that you percieve as trying to drive you away. You have as much right to post on this public forum as anyone. I want to be here when you make that post that says "Well it has happenned!"

                            Road to Recovery

I struggled big style with bac, I've now settled down and getting some good results from it(in fact I started settling down a while ago), but people keep making assumptions all the time. Like when I was still very sceptical but actually had already started it against my better judgement, people were still assuming I wasn't going to use it - when I'd already put my money where my mouth is.

I've posted as honestly as I can and sorted myself out eventually, but everyone is still being high and mighty with me. I've some serious stuff going on in my life, and yesterday the bloods thing was one thing too much for me when everything was just hitting me for six.

To then have folk poking fun when I'm trying so hard has almost finished me off.

The result is that I've emailed Roberta and asked her to delete my profile from here. This is not hot air, it's what I've done and how I feel.
