They were hardly elections Murph! Plus, there's only been one in the 31 years of his rule, which he lost. He just chose to ignore them!

My Diary (baclofen)
hmmm.
Edo was on last night, so I'm guessing they're safe. Hope we didn't derail too much, my friend.
Here's the thing about discussing politics and religion and even money on here. It excludes people. Some people don't care about American (or any) politics. Some of us are wealthy. Some of us support Bush, et. al.
Aren't we dilluting the bac message by having this discussion? I love it, don't get me wrong. LOVE it. But time and place? I might be wrong. I decided long ago that on my own thread in particular and on select others that a well placed expletive was okay, because if it offends people they don't have to read what I write...
so. I didn't vote for Bush. Ever. He did not win by popular vote the first time. The second time (2004) our country was under seige. Many people supported the wars that we were fighting and saw President Bush as the strong arm who would get things taken care of in spite of global resistance to decision-making. (I love the UN but they really are very ineffectual. Don't even get me started on the EU!)
What was reported, worldwide, is that we stopped serving "French" fries. Just in case you expats and foreigners think that was an accurate reflection of our dialogue, let me assure you that was not.
We are a silly lot. Prone to hyperbole and sorely lacking in education. Our political system has been hijacked by big money from all sectors. We are often hypocritical (Guantanamo comes to mind) and our popular news is an embarrassment.
But we are not thoughtless automatons. The great majority of us actually think and reflect and want the best for our country. Republicans have a right to be just that. I'm thankful for them and for any other party that may enter the fray, no matter how ineffectual atm.
At least we have a two-party system and not a dictatorship. At least we have actual elections and not ballot-stuffing, physical intimidation, bull shit versions of it.
And we have a system of checks and balances that is not to be trivialized. I lament the electoral college, but I understand why it was put into place lo those many years ago. It just needs updating.
And before you go playing fast and loose with the stereotypes please keep in mind that we have generated some of the greatest thinkers the world has known. You send your sons and daughters to this country to be educated at some of the best schools in the world. You send your generals here to learn how to arm themselves and protect their countries. We are fraught with problems and facing major hurdles, but we are still and will remain, a nation of deep thinkers looking for solutions to global issues.
So there.

I was going to just say something snarky about seppuku and politely ask you to remind me what and where the UK is, since I'm American after all.
Sorry, but I just couldn't resist it.:H

Although you could do that with any nation on earth I reckon, so it's not indicative. I've had more contact with Americans here than anywhere else, and they've changed my idea's considerably for the better. Why, only yesterday, I still thought that all republicans drooled.
Ne, I just winding you up. You really have changed my mind for the better!

Also, I suspect if you asked people in the UK about the goings on in Mexico, many would know nothing about it.* * *

I would like to think that silliness that surrounded all that in the US would not have happened in the UK. I would like to think that their definition of morality would have more to do with the qualities of a leader and not the nuts and bolts of one's private sex life.* * *

My Diary (baclofen)
Hey Guys.
Short message here.
I and my family are ok.
The earthquake was so huge and scary. I've been in many earthquakes over here, but this one was far beyond anything I'd ever experienced.
Now very tired as I had to walk home from where I was, a pharmacy, when the earthquake struck. It took 4 hours!
Home and safe with my wife and two little girls.
Political discussion over, let's pause and be happy that we are alive.
More tomorrow. :huggyLove you guys.
