Zyban is bupropion. I have it on good authority that it works very well for smoking cessation, and like I mentioned in another thread, I haven't had any problems with bupropion and high dose baclofen. YMMV.

I take buproprion and I smoke like a chimney. It only seems to work as an aid to smoking cessation if you take it as Zyban.

It shouldn't matter, what form of the drug you take. Whether it's Wellbutrin (WB), Zyban, or bupropion. They are all the same chemical formula. Yes, I know it's generics vs. brand names, and my shrinker told me he swears the generic bupropion wasn't as effective as Wellbutrin. He really likes Wellbutrin XR. Don't know. My insurance charged me up the rear for Wellbutrin. I switched to bupropion. I still had great antidepressant effects from it.

I barely smoked on it. I may go back on soon, since my bac levels have decreased. Still weighing that one. I was a little worried about the seizure potential. Even though I'm not seizure prone. What I was more worried about was the one good SE my switch dose was giving me, and adding WB into the mix. Since I've come down, it appears my body is back to normal.....sigh. I'm thinking of going back on it now. It does amazing things for me. Reduces appetite, increases libido, and reduces the urge to smoke. How can I go wrong?

When I get my new insurance of course.

I have stated elsewhere that Wellbutrin is the "hot and horny" pill - what how much better can you get - Weight down, and libido up? FYI, my Shrinker has also stated that the generics are not as effective as the real deal - i think there have been studies on this point. Also, if you google it, you will find a bunch of people complaining about the generic form. You are right about it being $$$ though, my insurance eventually reimburses me for it, but I still have to lay out the cash at the outset and it's $250/mo.

Red, I know Wellbutrin and Zyban are the same thing. I was suggesting it's smoking cessation qualities only register with those who expect it to happen, but I didn't want to mention the word 'psychosomatic' because that gets people's backs up. I was being too subtle, which is extraordinary for me.

RE the horny thing: Wellbutrin is often prescribed in addition to Prozac for guys, because Prozac has the tendency to cause retarded ejaculation, which is a hellish fucking annoying condition. :upset:

Ig, I used it purely for the stopping smoking quality a few years back. I got to 6 weeks with no smoking, which is my usual effort. Can't say it made it any easier or harder than normal though.

I think I once posted that I realised I'm about the only non-smoker around these parts and am so glad I never started. Although I did try once or twice, usually when drunk or when trying majuarana!

I don't smoke either, although I used to. I quit for good in '03 or '04, although very occasionally I'll have one when drunk at a party and hanging outside with the smokers.
