The avatar has to go. I once was the frog with flowers. I've been kissed by baclofen. Now, I'm the beautiful and very charming princess. :H

          My Red:
I remember waking up on Christmas, looking at the kids and all the presents were unwrapped. Some idiot at work gave me Patron as a gift.
I am so crying right now for you and your children; mom never left the stage she just needed a break for a moment.
I think I am there too, a lower dose has grounded me to reality. We can not only rely on the pill; we have to make a conscious decision to change.
I am going to run out into my subdued neighborhood and holler for you, shout from the rooftops.

We always knew it was real, didn't we?

Thank you everyone for carrying Red who I will always call my friend!

I don't want to take your thunder red; I just want to be part of it.
I love this journey and being here with you...MANY smooches!

          Happier than a lark!

Oh golly Redhead and Lush, you both sound so good. Red, I'm absolutely over the moon to hear your news. I'm so happy for your kids!!!!!

Do you have a plan for titrating down, and perhaps remaining at the current dose for a while?

Your story reminds me that shorter term drinkers often have shorter term fixes, so any lurkers out there should perhaps take heed. Cindi, I know you're short term, as food was your previous demon, what dose are you on? For the people like you guys except for beatle ... short term addiction = quick fix on bac?

Be interested to know ... and hope this doesn't spark evangelists for bac to speak only of their own short/successful/unusual experiences as the rule. We all know (if we've been reading) that bac works for 50% unless you count AO's 80% rate which includes those who just reduced drinking, didn't stop.

Bruun--I would definitely be an exception to that. I had a very severe, long-term (20+ year) addiction. My experience with bac was a brief (2 month) ride to the switch.

Congratulations Red. Great results in just over 2 months, superb.

I had been an alcoholic drinker for over 25 years and hit the switch in about 2 1/2 months but if I'd been introduced to bac 24 years ago the results would have been the same.
Started Baclofen 3/9/10 Hit my switch at 250mg on 21/11/10 Present maintenance dose of 50mg : started drinking after 1 year, upped dose to 80mg and stopped: Tapered to 30mg, started 6 months of drinking, upped dose to 240mg to stop 12/7/12

Congratulations Redhead! I have been lurking on your thread for some time now. I had gotten up to about 125 last week but just couldn't tolerate the SEs. I had this awful vibration in my ears all night long and insomnia. Lying awake all night thinking about my problems is not my idea of fun. I felt down and depressed and was avoiding people at work. Just didn't know if this was at all good for my mental health. Made drinking seem tolerable by comparison. I threw in the towel last Sunday, told my husband I couldn't stand another sleepless night with that infernal ringing in my ears, and have been slowly titrating down since then. But after reading your last posts I jumped up and took 30 mg. I am so inspired by your experience. It sounds like the SEs are bad when they're happening, to the point of being intolerable, but maybe that's when it's time to stick it out. Thank you. Please keep us all posted!!

Snafu. Hi! Several times it's been suggested that the SEs are an indication that the baclofen is working. They are a royal pain in the arse, that much is for sure but not permanent and cause no lasting damage.

Psychologically I mean. Don't operate heavy machinery, don't operate on patients maybe don't operate in a business deal, umm ..... anything left. Ideally take a holiday and don't operate but tale the pills and you will hit the switch.

I find it interesting that you can predict the past, Ig.

Serenity, you have had a fabulous experience, I wish we all could have your success. And the others who had fairly short trips. I think most people could deal with the SE's if it was only for two months. After all, we're STRONG, people, we deal with major hangovers and still do as much or more than non-hung folks. That is sheer determination and willpower.

Being able to easily avoid the circumstances you went on to describe must have taken a weight off your shoulders as well.

Red, that is just wonderful news! You just must be "over the moon".

Your story, re your children and mom , was heartbreaking to say the least. I was lucky enough to be sober raising my sons but it is now my gorgeous grandchildren who "want to see Grandma" when she is/was tired, hungover and shameful.

It is the personal stories and successes that help this forum more then anything else, regardless of how we get sober. Thankyou for sharing yours, it has meant a lot to me.

My heart goes out to you.

You went through an incredibly difficult time with the SEs and fought through them. You gave up your job to beat this addiction. Yes, you were offered a new one, but you didn't know that would happen. You completely changed your life. You did this for your kids. Your children are so lucky to have such a fantastic mother. I am in awe of you.

                              Red, you're my hero.
