red, you've inspired me once again. i'm toying w the idea of having a graduating student of mine live w me while she saves money to go to college. she could help me so much in the mornings w my son, and with my spanish (she is a native speaker). and with my basic cleaning. and i could help her get work (as an undocumented immigrant, that's a tough one); there are so many people in my area who have money and not enough help. she'd be a boon to any household, with her childcare experience and her willingness to work. she's so delightful: positive, smiles all the time, takes beautiful photographs, has an artistic sensibility, appreciates foreign films, the list goes on about this girl whom i think should live with me, maybe, and help me and herself out. she currently lives in a very poor county/area, and it would be a huge step up for her to live in my area and expand her options. you get the idea: good for her, good for me. i'm feeling it out. thanks for the inspiration. so glad for you, red, that your gal karen might just be the savior that you seek. (nevermind juan! tee hee.)

once again, you speak words that resonate deeply with me: the thing about our thougths needing to catch up with our biology. my habits and thoughts are not yet on par with my biology, yet i am feeling very close to switching. i don't want or need the beer, but i buy and drink it. not at the speed i used to, and it used to be vodka cause it would go down and get the job done quicker. the beer goes down, but it doesn't NEED to. you know what i mean.

have you seen the film Viva Cuba? worth a look-see. (it''s about two cuban kids who run away on an honorable mission. it's about friendship and instinctive loyalty to place. and it shows beautiful imagery of cuba.) you can impress LL with your sensitivity to his culture if you watch this and have any kind of internal reaction to it. not that you're looking to impress. clearly, he needs to impress YOU.

eating is a great alternative to drinking, i agree. funny, my dad said last night as i was talking to him about my own problem drinking, that he finds he pours the second glass just before eating, and once he starts eating he loses interest in the drink. i told him that i share that experience, but in true addict form i sometimes skip the eating to enjoy the drinking more. he has just gotten a clean bill of health after a prostate cancer scare, so has more obvious incentive to stop drinking. but, lemme tell you, he was a big drinker for many years. vodka hidden in a mug at noon kinda thing. so it's interesting to hear him tell about his own version of sobriety that happened for very tangible reasons.

    yaa dee yaa.
    dreamworld, here i come.
    xxxoo sweet dreams.
red, is karen staying with you now, or will she go back home for a while, pack up, and return? i'm excited for you. you deserve the support. good luck with the food. (my gal possibilty is like a mom in her family, taking care of siblings and all. i think she's a very good cook and housekeeper. maybe i'll be followng your footsteps and getting the warranted help...)

Thanks Moglor. Not only do they contain tons of other crap, but they are made with GMO ingredients. I'm not down with GMOs. Most of the companies that make these soy products, are in bed with Monsanto. Monsanto is the devil, as far as I'm concerned. This has been one of the reasons, I don't buy the products. I still want to figure out how to reduce our meat consumption. I think maybe the soy products aren't the only way.

You might look into a pasta substitute made out of tofu and shirataki: Shirataki Noodles - What Are Shirataki Noodles and Where To Get Them

Whole Foods has them and they ROOL (but cooking them right can be a challenge and they are *sorta like* pasta, not *exactly like* pasta.

I'm glad you reminded me of this. I'm aware gluten is the protein in wheat. It all makes sense now. Of course, I might think some of these products contain more gluten, than say bread, if this were the case. I'm just speculating. I've read about shirataki, on the Heart Scan Blog. Dr. Davis wrote a recipe with them. They have like 2-3 grams of carbs. Thanks for the cooking tip tk.

Well first of all: Ewwwwwwww, that's way, way, wayyyyyyyyy TMI!!!

Now I've got the obligatory squeamishness out the way, what has edible fungus got to do with candida, apart from the fact they're both fungi? Eating mushrooms won't increase candida. Eating refined sugars and meat with antibiotics will though. I'm sure you know tons more about this than me, but an anti-candida diet doesn't mean you can't eat mushrooms.
When one has candida, they often develop an allergy to fungus, mold, or anything fermented. I know it to be true in my case. They will also crave them. As is true with alcohol. It is unfortunately a viscious cycle for many. It is thought, here in America, that up to 80% of people battle some level of candida infection. Much of it may be do to what you indicated Murph, antibiotics in live stock. Plus all the antibiotics they put everyone on.

I was first diagnosed with it at 15. If you could call it diagnosed, as most medical practitioners don't believe in it. I had many symptoms (asthma, depression, stomach issues), but the worst was a rash. I developed the most terrible eczema. It was disfiguring. You can imagine the distress it caused a teenage girl. I saw many docs and they did all sorts of things, creams, steroids, you name it. It would get better temporarily. Then it would get even worse, after the treatment (which is typical). I finally saw an MD, who specialized in alternative medicine. He heard my symptoms and immediately put me on an anticandida diet with nystatin. I finally started to get better. The only time my rash would flare up, would be if I cheated on my diet. If I ate sugar. I've been battling it for a long time. Alcohol is terrible for me. It causes candida and makes it grow. One of my favorite cookbooks of late is called Feast without the Yeast. It is mostly vegetarian, and it doesn't use soy products. Many people with candida are allergic to soy. And so many other foods. The good news is, once you cure it, most food allergies go away.

I'm glad to hear it Rudy. I mean about your ideas with the girl. She sounds wonderful, and perfect for you. My Karen went home. She was only here for the weekend, as a trial. :upset: We plan for her to come back at the end of June.

I'm also glad to hear you are close to switching. I kind of knew that, thought so. Don't worry about the booze. It will come together. Some of us are still works in progress. In regards to eating and drinking. Oh, there's so much I could say about it. I'll save it for later, as I don't want to be EWWWW, TMI chick tonight. Oh wait, I always am.

ANYHOO, I'm going to hit the sack peeps. I was gone over 15 hours today. I want to work out before work, which means I need to be up at 4 rather than 5.

This has always happened to me with beer - if I eat, I stopped wanting beer. For this reason, I switched my allegiance to wine, instead of taking advantage of the fact. seems so silly now.

Omg!! I realized today why you went so bonkers Murph with my Candida comment. Everythings fine downstairs. I wouldn't be discussing it here if it were an issue. I think you may know a little too much about these matters!

I agree. Especially if you have a thyroid problem, which 5% of women over the age of 40 do. Soy is a big bad bully to the thyroid, but doctors won't tell you that (because they don't know). And they don't really care about anything but the allopathic, drug company-pushed and fueled way that they have been brainwashed to believe in.

Note: This may not apply to a few doctors out there, but in my experience and so many others', allopathic doctors just want to prescribe. Drugs. That give the drug companies loads of money. Obscene amounts of money. Beyond obscene. Way beyond. Allopathic doctors are just pawns in this whole game. And the patients are all victims. This is not an extreme point of view. It is a fact.

Read this article, on the BBC, no less (not Fox News, although it could have been)-- oh those kind drug companies... spin doctors with muscle:

beatle, i agree w you about the pharma companies and doctors. my bro works for a pharma co, selling cholesterol med. (he IS a good guy, really! he reads spiritual books and meditates and stuff. honest.) he has 30k/yr in his budget to host lunches at drs' offices to court them into buying the medicine he's pushing. eee-ghads!

you're right that not all dr's are brainwashed. my mom was duly impressed when i told her what my dr said about my drinking, rightfully so. it's not common for them to think this way, sadly, but he said that drinking is bad for one's soul. (!) like how you start to skip around to different liquor stores to avoid revealing your consumption. 'that's not good for your soul,' he really said that. my mom practically cried. and when my son was a newborn, he must've spent 40 minutes with us and him. unheard of! yes, he's an awesome guy (who prefers to be called "matt' over "dr".), and i do live in the kind of area where people gravitate to that kind of dr. bunch of grass-fed-meat-eatin' progressive types we are over here. give thanks!

(could someone please tell me where the comma goes in relation to the quotes, please! i tremble with fright every time i do that kinda thing, like in the above sentence about my soul: before or after the quote or inverted comma? oh, indulge me, please. i know some of you know and some of you even care.)

                        love yous!

red, i'm waivering on the live-in help. am still feeling it out whether or not to pursue it. but it sounds like you've got a go on your end. grreat! you need it with 3!

I pick up my girl on the 24th. Not much longer to wait. Big P is a bunch of bullshit. Most studies are funded by Big P. That's why getting studies launched with baclofen is so difficult. There's no one to dish out the cash. I was recently watching a program. They were talking about pharmaceuticals being prescribed by MDs, just because. An example would be the statins. Physicians are prescribing statins to women, to protect against heart disease. Not one study has shown this to be benenficial to women. Per the program. I haven't researched it myself. Someone is earning a heck of a lot of money, since statins are dished out like smarties.
