Day 3 of Antabuse....just one problem...

Hey everyone! I am on Day 3 of antabuse and doing great. It really helps by stopping the battle in my head before it even starts. I am also attending more AA meetings.

Just one problem that seems to be a side effect of AB-- stinky breath! I can't smell/taste my own breath, by my hubby said it's suddenly awful...he's not being mean, just honest. He's says it a really strong odor, almost garlic-y. I don't know what to do! Just keep brushing my teeth and rinsing with AF mouthwash. I wonder if my body smells too?

Does anyone else have experience with this?

Hi Fragile,

Don't know about that, did you google side effects for AB? I think you should give yourself a thorough flossing and brushing and make sure all is well there. Then you can look up what to take holistically for bad breath. I believe there are things you can do to eliminate bad breath (which is usually due to rotting food in your mouth or gut) but they may not work if bad breath is a SE of AB. Good luck!

Hi Fragile, I don't remember that side effect with antabuse but I do remember having bad breath when I was withdrawing from alcohol - it was like all the poison was coming out of my system every way possible - could it be that?

Hi FF,
yes this can be an initial side-effect. It goes away in most cases in a short time. Days-weeks.
