I dont know you are a horrible person. Come on cinders!!!!!!!! The first thing I said to you was "whats up-this is so unlike you"-and it is. You could take it as a compliment that people think so well of you that they can only imagine that you must be drunk if you say something mean.

I didn"t say something "mean."
I said what is up with this thread?
Let's get a life and let those who find their way out with AA be happy.
I still do not understand the thrust of this thread.
There are many who find their way out with AA and the good people in those rooms.
Not me. I know. It makes me sad I can't. But I do not diminish those who do.
I am happy for them and refuse to "look down on them" or their happiness.
One day at a time.
That is how we all live, actually.

What I don't like about this thread are the nasty insults that are being traded here. Unfortunately a lot of posters can come across as dismissive or aggressive about AA, my advise to those who use other methods apart from Baclofen is to ignore it. I've started ignoring a lot around here, I don't use the 'ignore' button a lot but I don't rise anymore putting things into perspective instead.
Apart from that it's sad to see that the forum has become a battle ground, them and us style. This site is here to provide support, advice and information on all the many ways to help anyone with an alcohol problem. Not point scoring on who is right or wrong. It simply doesn't matter as long as people have these choices in front of them.
By the way wishing someone was drinking is disgusting consider the reason this forum is here in the first place.

This thread makes me very, very sad. The fact that it is getting more attention, and more responses than any other is very telling.
It is not a debate. It is the opposite of a debate.
Debate or debating is a formal method of interactive and representational argument. Debate is a broader form of an argument than logical argument, which only examines consistency from axiom, and factual argument, which only examines what is or isn't the case or rhetoric which is a technique of persuasion. Though logical consistency, factual accuracy and some degree of emotional appeal to the audience are important elements of the art of persuasion, in debating, one side often prevails over the other side by presenting a superior "context" and/or framework of the issue, which is far more subtle and strategic.
Tracy, your mind is very clever and very smart. I too have a mind made for debate and facts/research at my disposal. It might be fun to actually debate with you. Especially since we fundamentally disagree, but I think we have some measure of respect for each other. (though this thread makes that a little difficult.) I can't do it here, because I think it harms people who are sick or struggling.
You have my email.
I hope you all find a way out. I hope you can have a day of peace/serenity or at least a measure of contentment.

i didn't see anyone saying anything bad about meds on this thread, i wasn't what ever works to keep you sober. when i first came here drunk one night i was looking for info on AA , DG posted a link to the 12 steps when i came back the next day i started to read more on this site and stayed and got sober. If i had came here last night and taken the point of view that AA kills people i wouldn't be back or to AA. From looking at posts here i can see a lot of people trying to get meds in Ireland can't due to the customs, so meds is not always an answer. I would like to see all these post about people giving out about meds please show me were they are. and by the way i don't go to AA or ever have but its the one last hope i have if i can't stay sober. "I would like to see all these post about people giving out about meds please show me were they are."
I have never seen any on MWO. As far as I know none exist(although I could be wrong)
This thread was titled SIDE EFFECTS OF AA. If you would like to see a thread discussing side effects of meds-well there are so many that I wouldnt know where to begin. Yes It can be very tough sometimes to get meds into Ireland. You are right. If an Irish person wants to go on high dose Baclofen and plans to order online then they are going to have quite a battle on their hands.
You said that if someone came on here last night and read this then they might not go to AA. I was reprimanded recently by Edostan for fussing about the lurkers.(correctly)
He said"-lurkers have minds of their own too"My reply was-"that they do." Congratulations on your sobriety to date. I think we all worry about staying sober. I havent ruled anything in or out either.I am a sobriety tart. AA/Smart/RR philosophy, meds/diet/exercise/prayer,rabbbits feet/four leaf clovers/horseshoes. In my opinion, this thread potentially has a lot of therapuetc value.
Otter wanted to talk about the side effects of AA. That is what you see here.....temper tantrums, banging on high chairs, insults, hurt feelings...you can add to the list ad infinitum.
I have seen this same scenario play out in the rooms numerous times. Now here is the "bad news"......this not the rooms of AA. This is a thread on MWO.
So appearantly, the side effects of both are not that different. I'm just saying....
Just a hunch, but I suspect this ALWAYS happens when you throw a bunch of intelligent, passionate people with differing opinions into the mix. And of course, not many of us have long term sobriety (I am only on day 79) and some of us have enough muscle relaxant in our blood stream to put down a small elephant. (280 mg for me)
As for therapuetic value, those who practice the AA way can sit down, examine their resentments and behavior, see their part in it, and learn something about themselves that they need to change.
I can't defend AA as an institution. It is out of control. But I can and will defend the 12 Steps as a way of life. They do not treat the biological aspect of my disease, but they damn sure treat other parts of it. The members of AA who actually practice the program are loving, tolerant and unselfish - things I aspire to be.
Once again, kudos to Otter for starting a lively and timely thread.Look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred-and-first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not the last blow that did it, but all that had gone before.

Me likey too. Great post Pbar. I missed a lot of details I can tell, like who was accusing whom of being drunk, but what I wanted to convey, is the fact that this thread has again taken a negative turn. When Tip posted the original thread, that later got moved here, the same thing happened. I hope if any new lurkers start reading on this thread that they aren't going to get up and turn off their computers. I promise people, we mostly play well in the sandbox together. This Princess Saved Herself

"You must have missed Tracy's post about Cindi."
No I was online last night when she said it but I see a completely different meaning in it than you do.
"And for the record, Coal. I have not decided my stance on AA,"
No you are right. You never said that. Apologies. I have not decided on my stance to AA so thats why I love this thread. You have not decided on your stance on AA and you think it should be closed down.:sigh: I cant explain that. You are seeing something I am not and I am seeing something you are not. Honest to god sheri I have tried to look at this from every point of view but I just cant get why we cant take AA and turn it up and down and sideways like we do ... I dunno the idea of moderating or how to deal with boredom or what we tell people now that we are not drinking...or well you get the idea. Thats what is in my head when I read and post on this thread. I thought tracy was attacking the institution-not people.Yes she is passionate about this. She holds a lot of anger because she believes that the AA approach flattened her little brother. Sheri if I thought that the vet was mean to my dog then I would be fiery too! I cant imagine how that death must have affected Tracy's view. Can we not just stay away from the personal and discuss the issues?
For example. I ran away from AA after 2 meetings because I was overwhelmed by all the jargon and the talk about people losing their jobs/homes/marriages/going to prison etc. I was only in my 20s from a very sheltered background. I was flipping terrified. Thats the type of conversation that interests me or other conversations in that vein. I thought that when this thread was started people would come on and say
I think AA is good at.....
This part of AA makes me uncomfortable....
I think AA should update itself for the 21st century because....
I think AA should remain exactly as it is because.....
Thats how we usually do things in MWO isnt it? Instead world war 3 broke out!! I have never seen a reaction to any other thread like there has been to this one. I wonder why? I think maybe pbarE is right.I am a sobriety tart. AA/Smart/RR philosophy, meds/diet/exercise/prayer,rabbbits feet/four leaf clovers/horseshoes. Well thank God you're not talking for the whole group.
What Tracy actually said was: I am actually hoping that she is drunk. I'd really hate to think that's who she truly is because I really liked her before.
If you want to attack Tracy for her point of view then do so, but mock indignation isn't very constructive.
Now back to the fight everyone, I was rather enjoying it.
