Though, and YMMV, apart from medical withdrawal I don't think baclofen, or any medication, should be the first port of call in treating an addiction. Extended longterm studies show that most addicts eventually overcome their addiction, even without any formal help. Statistically the number one form of addiction treatment is whatever works.
People drink/use for different reasons and their addictions have all sorts of different emotional, physical and life effects. Therefore different treatments will work for different people. Imo addiction treatment should consist of first off telling people that most people get better so they should not lose hope. Treating the immediate medical necessities, acute withdrawal, checking liver function, etc. Then discussing the options and trying those that are agreed to be the best match, if that doesn't work then try another.
Suggesting any way is the way is the way is highly destructive because if it doesn't work it can destroy hope.
