    Side effects of AA

Anyone who goes to an AA meeting has got a problem even if they are in the wrong place, wouldnt it be a lot kinder to talk to her and offer advice rather than take the piss. Its AA after all that states that anyone can become a member if they have the desire to stop drinking not me

Ok hope you never get confused then and go to the wrong person for help, the fact that you think its ok to take the piss at an AA meeting is just bizarre to me.

I am so sorry spacebebe01, this post left me confused.

Yes I think iit would be better to talk to "her" and offer advice rather than to take a piss,

I have a desire to stop drinking and AA welcomes me back with arms open.

However, others here have suffered greatly from some sponsors and they are victims of AA. They have gone through hell.

I never did. My AA groups have been kind and loving.

                Apparently others have not.

                Nothing more to say.

I am not an AA advocate. AA and my work with AA has left me drunk. Seriously.

                I don't blame AA. I am not a victim.

I choose my destiny. I have chosen badly.

I choose to be free of alcohol. Not sure which path will get me there, but I do not blame AA for me not being there.

                This is my path.

                I am strong.

                I am able.

                I am positive.

I am not a victim. I will never be.

                Love,

                  Spacebebe,

I hope it didn't come across to anyone else in my post that I was taking the piss - I wasn't. Please read what I ACTUALLY WROTE again. I merely said that I doubt if I had that kind of problem I would go to AA. It really is a massive commitment, and I think it probably does work best for those who are at a certain point. Ie like me, desperate and ready to commit to being a better person and live sober no matter what. I also said it was her choice before I even gave my opinion.

I am really not a gossipy person AT ALL, far from it - I have not told you the name of this person, nor was I told the identity of the individual mentioned - it just came up in a discussion with an AA friend about how bad we personally had been and she said that she knew of a lady in the fellowship with whom this was the case. And she happened to think the same as me that she'd be doing something other than AA if she were in that situation.

Just like I believe some people can mod and some can't no matter how hard they try - I don't think people who can mod would really get on with AA, which is an abstinence-based programme for people who can NOT control their drinking. A drink diary might be a good tool for someone who is a problem drinker and can moderate, but it is utterly pointless to give it to someone with a problem of my calibre, because frankly I shouldn't be drinking at all. that is why I go to AA. It's not gossip, it's discussion and opinion.

I hope that clears it up a bit.

What's all this taking a piss talk. I thought taking a piss meant to urinate. Is that having a drink?

Taking THE piss not A piss:H:H

It means tease, mock, give someone a ribbing. Sometimes done affectionately between friends, in a kind of pulling your pigtails type of way...sometimes with less honourable intentions, often the latter.

BTW, that's me taking the piss.
