TOO Much Baclofen!!!
I loved the video and how he defined pleasure vs. happiness. Also his analogy of anger as a mist, as a light frost that melts under the sun (when you look at it).
I remember years ago reading an article that followed a monk whose brain was being monitored as he was doing things like viewing pictures of burn victims. Normally, that would upset the heck out of anyone! But he actually got more and more calm. I remember the focus of his meditation was compassion, but gosh I wish I could remember what magazine I read it in. There were all kinds of graphs showing the normal reaction and then his reaction, very similar to what was in the video. And others that showed how the practice literally changes the structure of the brain (if I’m remembering correctly – it was a while back). I think it also included a study of New York taxi drivers and how the areas of the brain that do mapping actually became stronger the longer they drove a taxi. So, it’s more than just a matter of different neurons popping. It’s that the very structure of the brain changes depending on how it’s used. That’s a very clumsy wording of something that was really cool!
Anyway, I have a Pema Chodron CD that I listened to during a rough time. When things got better I stuffed it in a drawer and forgot about. I’m going to go find it and listen to it again, now that life is fairly calm.
Thanks again RedFeather.* * *

Tracy, I like the new pic in your profile. I'm not usually irish but I am today. I was actually just over at the parade today and there were so many people walking around like that.
I don't know how the cab drivers do it. They know how to get EVERYWHERE, but I guess its not all that hard once you know the city. Manhattan is easy, but what about the rest of the 5 boroughs and the dirty Jerz...

coalfire, plan: I'm waiting for a shipment of steroids to come in the mail. They should be here either tomorrow or the next day. I'm going to inject testosterone into my ass and hit the gym like a madman. It has worked wonders for me before in the past... The only side effects with it are an incredibly enhanced state of well-being, self-esteem, sex drive and incredible strength and weight gains. All the rest of the bad crap you hear about is bullshit, just as long as you do it right.

The 2 things that would worry me would be the depression after you come off them. I would worry in case that depression could worsen my drinking. Its also a bit worrying that your testosterone levels might never return to normal. I dont think any man would be too happy about that. Here is a good and fair look at the pros and cons.Good luck with the gym.The Myths and Dangers of Anabolic SteroidsI am a sobriety tart. Tracy: parallel universes intersecting. I so love it. This IS the monk whose brain they looked at in those early studies! He has now been bestowed the title "World's Happiest Man." And yes, it was actually London cabbies, but their hippocampuses (campi?), where memory seems to be stored, actually grew bigger and thicker in certain parts.
One of the latest things confirmed through fMRI imaging is that simply paying attention to the breath increases the size and thickness of the part of the brain that lights up when one is feeling compassion and well-being. Can I say . . . potential???
Oh Gawd, now you've got me on my favorite soapbox. Here's a link to an hour-long talk Matthieu gave at Google Tech Talks. And one more to another rock-star in this arena, Dr. Daniel Seigel. I'll just assume you have nothing but time to watch these geeky guys!:H:H And won't be offended at all if you just ignore me. I'm still bac-recovering. The bac glow is pretty profound after over-dosing!!!

cOffee: I just have one question, and it's purely for the sake of research. Were you drinking and how much when you had that reaction at a fairly low dosage?
I've had such a breeze with baclofen I almost feel guilty. But I'm interested in everything.
And I say, if you have a plan that you think will work, go for it. I even have a website where you can order illegal steroids if you need that. PM me. Call me mad, but I'll take dying trying over sitting around waiting for it to happen in misery any day.
By the way, don't forget that posting your story kept me out of THAT hell. I have no idea about the brands of bac having different effects. I've taken several and they've all worked. Well. There's just so fuckin' much we don't know.

steroids do not cause brain tumors. not sure where that would come from. that is definitely a myth. Lyle Alzado died of brain cancer but it was just a coincidence. He swore it was from the juice but his Dr's said that there was no way possible that the greese caused it.
Normal test levels always return to normal. there is however a period of atrophe when use is discontinued when I always take an anti-estrogen to block aromitase and kick start regular test production again. some people get gyno but cases are sooo rare. I have never met anyone that got gyno and I've been involved in that business for almost 15 years. The people that talked on about.com have no idea what they're talking about. I've done too much research on sauce to know what's myth and what is not.

If you think it will work for you and it has in the post, use your own wisdom (mine is often faulty). Do take care of yourself though. :l* * *

TOO Much Baclofen!!!
Info relevant to bac weight gain; mood stabilization
I feel like the plate-spinner in the circus, running around to everyone's threads posting this information to bring light that I consider second only to the miracle of baclofen to the subjects of weight gain and mood-stabilization once the AL gives us up.
So I'll post it here for you to read, and to have it consolidated as a link to offer others. I've realized I'm not a short poster, I kinda' like the story, so bear with me.
A month into baclofen, I had gained 18 lbs. I started taking baclofen about 18 lbs. overweight. Easy to do on a diet of vodka, red wine and pastries. I've never been thin, but always fit and strong. Now I was fat, as noted so kindly by my mother. The choice appeared to be fat or sober, but NO!!! This was in Oct. '09. Not so much bac'ing on the board, so I read everything. Voila. DeeBee had posted this https://www.mywayout.org/community/f6...ine-37269.html THIS should be sticked at the top of any baclofen forum! There was also a big discussion about how awful All-One is. I decided to check it out and found at that there are several versions of it, and decided to try the Rice-Based product.
Then I discovered that a friend of mine who is a naturopath had put together a list she calls "Biochemistry of Contentment" to complement her husband's new book, "Buddha's Brain." Shameless plug here - it's by Rick Hanson; it's simple to understand and is a great introduction into the interface between contemplative practice, neuroscience and psychology. Oh what the hell, this is my thread! His website is Wisebrain.org. If you want to know more about the amygdala (which is just the opener to the brain stuff) go there. It is a profoundly generous source of scientifically based knowledge that, yes, perfectly parallels what the Buddha discovered about how the brain works.
So working with Jan's information, plus a little PM'ing with Sapphire1 over on the Underoo's thread, I began a pretty massive supplement routine. I'll give you the results, then I'll give you the list, so you can cut and paste it and leave out all this story!:H:H
I have lost 35 lbs. I now weigh 6 lbs. more than I did when I graduated from high school. I've always been 10-15 lbs. heavier than that. Today, I eat well in order to keep my weight from going lower. I think I have more skin than I did when I was 18! Weighing less would NOT make me more attractive at age 54.
I quit taking Zoloft. I had been on it for 4 years. This wasn't even a conscious decision. I started skipping days, then several days, then one night I noticed some zappy sensations coming out of my brain and remembered that those could be a SE of coming off an anti-depressant. That just lasted a day or two.
My mood (kinda' even including while overdosing on baclofen) has been upbeat, stable and, dare I say it, leaning toward kind and compassionate. Better, even, I would say, than when I was meditating 2 hours each and every day, thereby controlling my anxiety and never drinking.
I quit caffeine. I NEVER wanted to quit caffeine. I was the grinder, frother, fair-trade, organic kind of coffee girl. Now it makes me jittery. Damn.
I know everyone has different responses to everything. I have a lifetime of cultivating awareness of my body (although even that had no chance in the face of my full-blown alcoholism, but that's another story), so what I suggest is that you try some of these things, according to your body's response. I started losing weight when I began to take 5-7 mg l-glute instead of eating lunch.
Drumroll, please . . . .
L-Glutamine: at LEAST 15-20 mg/day. 5-10 mg in the am and 5-10 mg around 2 pm. My doc is a body-builder and she says it's okay to take as much as you want - until you start to smell like ammonia.
Rice-Base All-One: aminos for the brain; important B's, you can read about it
P5P: a form of vitamin B that supports all the aminos getting into the brain; 100 mg/day
5HTP: supports the seratonin pathways in the brain; 100 mg/day (Otter has an objection to this, but in this case I'm going with Jan, who is a trained naturopath)
GABA: 1000 mg/day. There's some question about whether or not it actually crosses the blood-brain barrier, but the P5P should help this, and I figure "why not?"
Taurine: binds to the GABA receptor to increase GABA-like (contentment) activity: 1000 mg/day. As Sapphire noted, Taurine can make some people agitated, so be aware. Also used in "energy drinks," so might be helpful for bac-somnolence.
L-Tyrosine: feeds the dopamine/norepineprine pathways. 1000 mg/day
Fish Oil: I can't handle pills AT ALL but do quite well with a liquid product from Carlson Labs that has EPA and DHA doses equivalent to Metagenics (much more expensive) products.
Vitamin D3:: I think I got this from Sapphire as a mood stabilizer.
Vitamin B3: Ditto above.
For vanity's sake, I take Biosil, because the baclofen seemed to be thinning and drying my hair and nails. It's liquid silicon.
I, of course, alcoholic that I am, started taking all of this pretty much at the same time. If you're interested, I suggest you start at the top of the list and work your way down, giving yourself time to observe the effects of each supplement
I buy everything at Vitamins & Supplements - Buy Discount Vitamins Online - Vitacost. Great prices, great service - always arrives withing 4-5 days after I order. Hope that doesn't violate any rules.
Of all of this, I cast my vote for massive amounts of L-glutamine and All-One. Good luck. If it happened for me it can happen for you!!"Wherever you are is the entry point." --Kabir
