First post, any doctors prescribe bac in Seattle?

Hi everyone, I've only recently realised there are alternatives to AA
I had been hitting a brick wall at about the 3 month mark for 2 years while working the steps with dedication. I would enter a state of utter anxiety which rendered me practically incapable of accomplishing vital tasks.

I am a college student studying biochemistry, I've one quarter and some finals left and I absolutely cannot afford to have a slip.

Baclofen seems like a promising treatment due to its' anxiolytic properties and the fact that I have a genetic "shakiness" which leads me to suspect I have an inherited mutation in one of the enzymes of GABA synthesis leading me to have a lower than normal amount. My thoughts always race and this all seems to click. I have eyelid twitches that appear occasionally.

How can I present this information such as to get my physician to seriously consider baclofen. I realise there is hesitation among physicians to allow patients to self-diagnose and to prescribe off-label in large doses.

Is anyone aware of a Seattle area doctor who would be willing to attempt this?

Thanks for reading, I realize it runs a bit long, and thank you for offering me hope I had thought lost.

Yes it is possible to receive a px over the internet. I got mine from goldpharma and they were fine. There is also river pharmacy, 4x4,and maybe others that I cant think of right now. There are old threads on this.I cant see the word seattle without thinking of sleepless people.Sorry its just my weird mind.:H If baclofen gives you the side effect of insomnia I wont be able to restrain myself...I know I wont. No seriously, good luck with tracking down your Baclofen. A doctor would be far the best way obviously but a lot of people here cant get it that way and order online. Good luck with your studying too!
I am a sobriety tart. AA/Smart/RR philosophy, meds/diet/exercise/prayer,rabbbits feet/four leaf clovers/horseshoes. Yes please.I will have them all thank you very much.Bring them on

          Hi Guy, and welcome.

Lots of people order their baclofen directly over the net, there's a thread somewhere I'll try and dig up for you. Here it is:

          https://www.mywayout.org/community/f2...aclofen+online

I too was amazed to discover an alternative treatment to this disease. And, helpfully, one that works!

          Good luck with your journey!

Thank you very much for that link.
I too hope it will work, I hold my spirits high that this may yet prove fruitful, as I have come to reject the premise that I have to suffer craving and unbearable tension every day of my life
and coalfire, if it makes you feel any better it's 5 am here. I am in fact, sleepless in seattle

              Hi ElGuy. :welcome:

I pm'd info for the doc that a lot of us use here.

You can also try your GP. It's not a bad way to go since it helps educate the medical industry about this alternative treatment. If you can get a prescription for up to 80 mg a day, that is at least a starter supply (and probably cheaper than ordering online). Some people have been able to convince their own docs to prescribe at higher levels too.

Yowsa! You've got quite a plateful. Good luck with bac route. If you haven't read Ameisen's book (not that imagine you have much time for leisurely reading), it's here:

Amazon.com: Heal Thyself: A Doctor at the Peak of His Medical Career, Destroyed by Alcohol--and the Personal Miracle That Brought Him Back: Olivier Ameisen M.D.: Books

Also, if you find a doc to prescribe in Seattle, please add it to our Doctors Who Prescribe thread. We are trying to comply a list. :thanks:

yayy, doctor gave me a prescription. I went in there with articles I got from baclofen4alcoholism, and told her about why it seemed to make sense that it would work, got a prescription for up to 80 mg a day.

Took my first 5 mg, I'm really happy

                    Great news Guy.

It's early days, but you are going to have to give some thought as to how you are going to overcome your 80mg's per day limit. Online is, as I said, an option. There is always the chance that your doc will be so impressed you can convince him to go higher.

                    Good luck!

TX, another forum who has many members of MWO involved is called the endofmyaddiction.org. There is a list of doctors by state who prescribe. The site, EOMA also has many members on baclofen.

                            Good Luck.
