      Another note from Dr Ameisen

      Missy,

Anyway I have had my rant. I really have had so little support on this supposedy "supportive" site......and I guess that is fair enough, I have been antagonistic , drunk and downright rude sometimes but hopefully always honest and apologised when I thought it appropriate.
You did put your finger on it. It is difficult to support someone who is antagonistic and downright rude at times.

Why don't you try asking for support in a serious way?

I take it you take Campral and it is helping you to stay sober. That is awesome!! You should share that in a thread so others who are considering it can try it.

I, personally, can't take it because I end up with serious diarrhea. I would not know if it could help me. I just can't take it.

The same with Topamax. I am allergic to it. You have no idea how bereft I felt after reading RJ's story and having some hope and then I realized I was outside of that realm. It was horrible. But, I didn't give up.

When OA wrote his book, I had hope. I am still working on it, like Ne, my first stab at using Baclofen was disastrous. I was working on a very stressful account and worked odd hours, sometimes night shift, sometimes day shift, sometimes 24 hour shifts, actually even longer than that. I could not take Baclofen and do my job.

Today, I have been given the chance to go up on Baclofen and I am doing it.

But you are right. Sobriety is much more than a pill. I agree. Ig talks about that, so do many others. Just not drinking is not sobriety. There is much more to the issue than stopping the drink. There is learning how to live a good life, treating others with kindness and having self-respect and dignity back. That will take a lot of work for most of us. Some will have it right away without the drink but many will need to work on it.

Take care of yourself, love yourself and then you will learn to be kind to others.
