Observation about Baclofen
Has anybody noticed that when first starting baclofen that what ever resolve to NOT drink each day that they had is completely and utterly gone? And in actual fact you go a little more stupid with alcohol as if challenging the baclofen to give you some resolve? Its as if I feel that I don't need any control because Im waiting for the baclofen to give it to me?Silly, I've been a little this way scince I ordered the baclofen! telling myself yeah its ok because when I start baclofen I wont have to do a damn thing! I feel like Im setting myself up for some disappointment here, has anyone else had this experience? From what I've read it does seem the baclofen does give you the resolve but Im sure we have to have some of our own resolve too, your thoughts and experiences guys and gals?sigpic

Even when I switched I was continuing to try and push through the feeling of indifference.

Observation about Baclofen
I was already AF when I started bac but have had to use some will-power over the last week when I get the cravings. Not much tho as I have taken bac as soon as I realise I am thinking of drink and the thoughts have just dissapeared a bit later. This did not happen before, I would get a craving and be driven insane by it until I gave in. Its still early days for me but I am definately hopeful that this may well be the answer I have been looking for.
good luck

Its crazy isn't it! Murphyx thank you yours gives me hope, I read your experience with Baclofen and you gave me the heartiest laugh Id had for some time , you are hilarous! you should look into writing, I felt right there with you during your experience. Ukblonde I remember reading you're experience with baclofen was not as successful but I'm sorry I haven't read anything since then I'm hoping you've had some success. So do you mean that you had resolve to stop drinking and it is mostly gone now or the silliess to push the boundaries is mostly gone? Sorry Im Aussie blonde! Thanks spacebebe1, Its sounding to me as if baclofen does give you the will power!sigpic

I also know what you are talking about. The baclofen takes a lot of the stress out of your daily existence and being vigilant 24/7 about drinking is stressful.
For me its manifested itself in increased smoking!
Don't worry too much. At some point it will become more stressful to drink than not!Started Baclofen 3/9/10 Hit my switch at 250mg on 21/11/10 Present maintenance dose of 50mg : started drinking after 1 year, upped dose to 80mg and stopped: Tapered to 30mg, started 6 months of drinking, upped dose to 240mg to stop 12/7/12

Exactly what you are saying happened to me. Like Murph, I have no time for willpower, and we don't get on well. I noticed an immediate increase in boozing. This decreased pretty quickly, but there were still some levels of baclofen that I was on where the increase was apparent.
I just went with the flow, and it turned out alright. Turned out brilliantly, in fact.
Good luck.

I can definaltey relate to your "waiting to the baclofen to work" , it finally all started to come together at 180 mg for me. I'm on my 2nd day AF!! This is huge since I can't remeber the last time I went a day with out alcohol. I've also decided to take more action in my recovery by getting into a support group and counseling. I wish the best for you Wintyr, don't give up just yet!

Observation about Baclofen
My advice: Use all the tools in the box. The baclofen will not substitute for an intention to quit drinking. It only helps you achieve that goal by reducing craving. If you supplement that craving reduction with things which also help such as discipline, good nutrition, clean environment (toss the booze), meditation/relaxation/exercise etc it will be much easier. It is not a "stop drinking pill". There is no such thing.
I have been abstinent for 15 months now on baclofen. I believe in the concept of "what fires together wires together" so I believe I have been "rewiring" my brain to handle all of life without alcohol. I hope others can as well.
All the best

Observation about Baclofen
Great advice Sunny! My biggest struggle with the baclofen has been the habit of drinking more than the craving. In fact, even when I didn't have a taste for alcohol I fought it all the way and drank through it! The baclofen has helped to give me enough distraction from this freeeeeking habit to explore other options than drinking.
The last 2 nights I tried something different and read more about addiction and could really relate to many of the stories on this forum as well as other sites out there. I will definately explore the tool box in hopes for more good advice.
Thank you!!!!
Good Luck Wintyr!
