ARGH! Will work stop sabotaging my start date?

So, I'm pretty sure I'm not just finding predictable alcoholic excuses here (precise science that introspection is ...or not!)

Normally, I have board meeting presentations about twice a year. In the upcoming future, I now have FOUR in the next month.

This sucks beyond belief, as I just cannot be looking stoned at these meetings (obviously). When I thought I just had 2 meetings, I was just going to wait until after they were done with before starting bac, but now I have 4? This can just drag on and on, with my disease metaphorically loving every minute of it. And my liver feeling very much different.

Sooooo I think I am going to try ultra-low dose bac as soon as I can and see what it does to me.

There are those that believe that if you titrate up at a snail's pace, there should be little problem with side effects. Let's see if those people are correct. If they are, I will continue to take bac through the meetings. If I experience issues, I am just going to have to stop and restart. A pretty unappealing thought, but......

LLB- at the lower doses I didn't have any side effects. It might be the same for you as you start which will give you the time to get through the meetings.

Actually the only side effect I noticed was that I didn't feel like drinking my usual amount, which was a lot. That in itself was a real plus. I stayed at 50-75 for almost a year.

Some do feel the SE's at lower doses, but many do not. Give it a try, you can always back down if necessary.

    Good luck.

I didn't start to feel "stoned" or have trouble with speaking or coordination until I hit about 25mg/day. I find the slurring and coordination issues are very dose dependent, so if you keep the dose low, you might be able to avoid it. I notice it most about 2 hours after a dose of 25mg or larger.

I didn't have performance issues until I hit 30 mg. I did a trial run at 20 mg a day for 5 days, before I officially started taking it. The results were very good. I had decreased anxiety, drank less, and slept really well at those low doses. I did have vivid dreams, but many of them were "good". Even if you find after a short trial, that your cognition is impaired, you won't suffer withdrawal to stop, and do it again later.

Oh yeah, I should add that drinking while on bac GREATLY increased the coordination and general spaced out feelings and mental cloudiness, so if you have an opportunity or ability to go AF while you start, you'll probably minimize these effects.

Like others I have also been able to take low doses without problems, up to 25 mg in one dose. With me that just has an anti-anxiety effect and a bit of a mood lift sometimes. If taken when feeling tired it can actually stop the tiredness, although that's probably a very individual reaction.

              Hey P,

I'd also add that going up and then down reduced the SEs dramatically, although I probably already shared that.

Right now I'm thinking I coudn't have a barista position in a big city with my AL brain and assorted other chems in use to reduce the AL.

Good luck big guy. (big as in strong)/

                Perfect plan LLB.

It was only over 100mg that SEs became an issue for me.

I would be inclined to titrate at just a slightly reduced rate (maybe 20mg weekly) and if the SEs kick in you can reduce a little a few days before the time that they would be inconvenient. Think it takes about 5 days to get up to full strength in the CNS.

It was only when I was very near my switch dose that I got a comment about being stoned!
Started Baclofen 3/9/10 Hit my switch at 250mg on 21/11/10 Present maintenance dose of 50mg : started drinking after 1 year, upped dose to 80mg and stopped: Tapered to 30mg, started 6 months of drinking, upped dose to 240mg to stop 12/7/12

                  LLB,

I need to chime in here, too. Mostly because I am a gabby chick and that is what I do.

However, low dose Baclofen really did not give me any issues at all.

I didn't start feeling them to where they affected my outward performance at all until I hit 120 mgs/day. Where I am right now.

This is a perfect time for you to start your low dose titration.

You can start with the recommendation from Dr. Levin, which is very conservative, only go up every 5 days, and by the end of this month you still won't be where you would be feeling serious SEs.

You will be ahead of the game if you do this and ready to ramp up when this month is over.

If, at any time, you feel the dose you are on is affecting your performance, just back down to the step below and stay there.

                  You can do this!!

Thanks a lot everyone for your reassuring replies. I'm beginning to feel I can do this, and God knows I'm motivated to do it!
