    Planning to try TSM Naltrexone

Thanks Noelle. I'm getting used to my life being shifted this way and that...no rest for the wicked.
I doubt TSM is working this early in the game, I am mad that I allowed myself to drink without taking the Nal...I had originally planned that day to be AF....tsk tsk, shame on me. I think my new plan will be to take Nal daily for a while and try to keep my drinks to a somewhat acceptable level, meaning no guzzling!

I promised myself to try the TSM journey for a year and plan to keep that promise.
    Nov 1 2006 avg 100 - 120 drinks/week
    April 29 2011 TSM avg 70 - 80/wk

    wks 19-24: 176/1AF (avg 29.3/wk)
    wks 25-30: 154/10AF (avg 25.6/wk)
    wks 31-36: 30/37AF (avg 5/wk )

I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

      Planning to try TSM Naltrexone

      week 2 report

Pretty much the same as week 1 without the side effects.

I am starting to notice a distinct difference in the way I drink. I get a feeling of having "enough". I'm still drinking too much but I often take a sip or two of the last glass poured and then have no desire to finish it.
This is not normal for me, even when trying to moderate I never leave anything in my glass! Nal is doing something for sure.

          Hi Katie,

That feeling of "enough" is weird, isn't it? I remember the first time I experienced it. It took me a while to work out what it was! It was actually tricky for me to stop drinking, I kept wanting to over-ride it. It was only when I realised what I was doing that I was able to listen to my body, for once!

Yes Bleep, it's weird indeed. I have tried to over ride it as well.

I think a key part of the process is to pay attention to what subtle changes are happening while taking the medication, if you ignore or fight against it, one may end up giving up before giving it a proper chance to work.

              Katie,

It sounds like you are doing well and responding to the naltrexone as expected.

Fingers crossed for you that Nal works quickly.

Currently, I am taking 50 mgs/night and 30 mgs Baclofen a day. (Just getting back into the whole thing after having to titrate off to get my legs and ankles back to normal. I could barely walk from the swelling. A baclofen SE.)

I am just beginning my second week sober. It feels good. :-)

              Love,
              Cindi

                Yay Katie

By the way Cinders I experienced extreme puffiness with baclofen, feet and ankles were the worst - but that's gravity for you. I've never had kidney problems as far as I know, and I just assumed it was another thing I was probably wrongly attributing to Baclofen.

                  UK,

Swollen ankles are an SE of Baclofen. Yes, it is kidney related.

Mine weren't just puffy, though, they got so bad I could barely walk. My husband was very upset and worried.

I think it was a sign of my kidney issues.

Well it's all gone now, went away within a few days of reducing the dose as did all the other stuff such as the incredibly manky hair, depression, lack of confidence etc. Because it was suggested these were all due to something else I did half expect them to continue, but they didn't so highly likely to have been the bac for me.

Yes, my SEs are gone, too. Hubby remarked yesterday how much better I was looking and acting. We had such a nice weekend together. Lots of laughing, hard work on the house and just being together.

I am at 20 mgs/day on Bac and can feel it but it doesn't affect me too badly.

I am taking the Naltrexone even though I am not drinking. I know it is not TSM and maybe placebo.

I don't care. I am sober. Into my second week.

My last withdrawal was bad and I don't ever want to go there again.

I feel better than I have in months.

Maybe it's not a placebo effect. Just maybe it's working for you like it works for me. One doesn't HAVE to follow TSM for it to work.

I'm very happy for you and very proud of you Cindi, being into your second week of sobriety.

I feel better than I have in 40 years!!!!!!!! I am NOT kidding!!!!!!!!

Cindi, if Nal is helping you stay AF...Keep taking it!!!! Every single sober day you have is a step in the right direction. The details of how, what, when, where, can be worked out later...right now just get those AF days in any which way you can. The longer the stretch the better.
                          Love you to bits!

thanks for this thread, im interested in trying nal. can i just ask do you have any effect at all from drinking al. katie i notice you say you 'guzzle' when you drink. that is me totally, chasing the buzz i guess. i would say 2 drinks gives me all the buzz im going to get as it just gets crazy chasing after that for more. do you actually get any of the warm fuzzy feeling and then know you can stop/slow down or do you get nothing. i dont think ive worded this very well bu i hope you know what i mean
Today is the tomorrow i worried about yesterday and it turned out fine

                                Hey Spuds

I know you've asked Katie but thought I'd reply whilst I'm here too - I'm also sure Katie will chime in when she's on.

I've had two occasions now where I've not had more than 2 drinks because I simply got nothing from them. It was like drinking flat pop, and didn't even taste nice. On other occasions I've had a little buzz and tried pushing on for more. All I can say is that I simply get bored of drinking whilst on nal and stop at around 1/3 to 1/2 of my usual, pre-nal amount. It just feels like so much effort I cannot be bothered. In the last week I have actually wanted to get spannered like i used to, and have really tried but I just can't do it.
