the saga continued. major snaffus all the way home. going through the first tunnel on the way to bklyn, i turned on my headlights per the law, and then quickly off, as i didn't want to forget them and kill the battery. second tunnel was longer so i turned them on, and forgot to turn them off. after nephew's 4th bday party, i was amped to get out of dodge. but my battery was dead. of course. triple a came and charged it to get me going. (silver lining: i didn't have to go to a shop and get a whole new battery installed, a risk when killing an old battery.) minor traffic on the bridge. was never more happy to see the fdr north. and then the gw bridge. but i missed the exit to palisades pkwy, an exit i've taken 100's of times. got lost in new jersey. severe punishment, but for what???!!! the signs for the garden state pkwy are tiny and have no warning. had to stop thrice for directions. had to get fuel. i was never happier to finally be on 87 north. and then, to finally drive into my driveway. i half expected my house to have burned down while i was gone, but it hadn't. so here i am.
i kept holding visions of sitting here, typing, letting my son play video games until his brain oozed out of his ears, eating candy and drinking coke. (well, only the first event is the case.)
it will be a very, very long time before i go to bklyn again. i can't believe i did that drive every week for three years! (silver lining: son slept the whole way home. just before arriving, he woke up most cheery. give thanks.)
now, i'm off to craig's list to look for an impreza sport. my vw beetle has done me very well, but it's time to move on. at 230 thousand miles, i can read the signs that i must upgrade.
and with that, i bid you adieu.
