for those of you who don't know spanish, i think pete just called me an empty vessel. now, does anyone out there really think he's right?! pete! how could you make such an accusation, even if you then realized that maybe i'm somehow legit in my spanish knowledge (he then goes on to say that maybe i'm puerto rican -'boricua'). or do you have a completely different interpretation of the word 'huera'?

pete, out of fairness to our readers, i think we should carry on in english, however strong is the temptation to chat in spanish. afterall, i'm sure we have very many interesting things to say that nobody would want to miss!

believe you me, i am ever-searching and ever-finding ways to incorporate that beloved language into my life. i just think it would be rude to do it here. suddenly, people would stop reading or posting, and this time i'd have no reason to wonder why.

but, since you asked, i easily learned how to speak spanish cause i studied latin and french for years in high school. when, at 20, i began to study spanish, it sunk right in. i traveled much, and used the language all the time in my 11 yrs in nyc, such that it stuck in me brain and me being. so there you have it, a bit of my history.

and now, i must FORCE myself into bed. birds will start waking me up before i know it. my son will be hungry and i will fight guilt and guilt will win; i'll be getting out of bed before i'm ready. or not. seems lately i'm up and at 'em at five am.

            anywhoot, 'nite all!

I may have ravaged my brain with drugs and alcohol, but not enough to say "I thought you were an empty vessel, but you live in New York so you might be Puerto Rican."

And you're right about carrying on in English. I just got excited because my roomate that's coming is Puerto Rican and fluent in Spanish so I plan on brushing up on it with her.

              Goodnight!

rudy, despite all the spanish in this thread, which like any english speaker, i am convinced is somebody swearing me out if i can't understand it, i will continue to post. can you dad not just keep the car in his name? and let you use it?

one would think, bleep, one would think. but he is a very careful man and only has my best interests at heart. just look at yesterday's fiasco w my taped-together car. clearly that was somehow good for me, and it was all his fault!

he doesn't want my ex to see such a slammin' hot rod in my driveway. his eyebrows would go up and his jaw would clench. we wouldn't want that now would we?

now pete, what in lord's name were you saying? evidently I need to brush up on my spanish!

god, have i mentioned that yesterday was positively one of the MOST stressful days of my entire life? just checking. it was. i am still reeling from it. i don't want to go anywhere. ever again. have i said that? once son has been deposited in camp, i shall call around for a car. alas, it won't be an audi. i know i'm repeating myself. but for the next few days, i can't be held accountable for anything that i say. i will be taking my time to recover. and i shall never go to brooklyn ever again. unless i am chauferred in a limo.

OK, you and your sis seem to have a good relationship, so bringing that sort of stuff up shouldn't be a problem. My ideas about familial relationships are greatly clouded by those I experienced as a child i.e. my own and those of my friends, all of which were totally dysfunctional, so sometimes forget there are normal families out there.

You said you used to have an old saab. How old? A few years ago I had a 1965 Saab 96.

It was THE rally car of its day. Huge fun, very easy to work on, but a nightmare to find parts for.

p.s. Why has everyone started talking Klingon? :H

Oh and there's a very simple solution to the car ordeal. Keep your brand new Audi RS6 in the garage, possibly with a tarp over it.

Rudy, sorry for your horrible trip home, I relate, I have those all the time when I go to LA. Traffic snarls are guaranteed, except for some summer days. School is out so traffic is much better. As you know, being a teach and all.

I had a 72 Bug, my first car. I am nostalgic for that and for my 90 miata. Those were two great fun cars. A stick-shift in San Francisco, GOOD times. I liked to scare the shit out of the people behind me on the hills, when we'd be waiting for a light, and the hill was like 80 degrees and we were pointing to the sky. Slip the clutch a tad and it looks like you're about to fall right into their laps. LOL, teach them to give a girl some SPACE, damnit.

Good luck with the car shopping!

my oldest saab was a '78 (had a few of those). my favorite was a silver two door w soccer ball rims and a mo mo italian leather racing wheel. i paid 900 bucks for it! that was in '88 or so. never had a 96, but those were cool!

i've given up on the audi for now. but did find and impreza for 3 grand (unheard of so far; a great price!). unfortunately, it is located down in the area where i got lost yesterday. i really, really, really don't want to go there! maybe he could meet me a bit north. i'll ask. cause i really, really, really don't want to go there! oh, i could find a friend to drive me, which i'll need if i have a car to drive home. that would be really, really, really great.

today i napped for hours. my body and mind have some serious recovery to do. yesterday was exceedingly traumatic, have i mentioned that? just checking. and i shall go to bed early tonight. and tomorrow is a new day.

                              ciao for now.

oh, pete! i figured it out! i always thought 'huera' was spelled w a g. see, you've taught me something very important. and, whereas i can't imagine having a roomate again, it would be nice to have an encyclopedia of colloquialisms at hand!
