    just got my own bac!

What an awesome run! If you’re having trouble getting motivated to exercise, try some wizardry. Embrace your inner pagan and fly!

I just came inside from a walk up in the woods where I inspected the damage from huracAn Irene. There are giant trees down, mostly pine, all across the old logging road. Good news is, it will sell for lumber, and the few, small hardwoods can be firewood, much of which I’ll get in trade for the lumber, along with some cash. I'm a regular steward over here! (Guess I’d better call the guy and make sure this is true. But my neighbor says it is, so it is.)

(There’s a frickin’ mouse in the wall again! Damn chewer, activating my ADD! )

Anyway, after that I stopped into the dojo (where ex still teaches martial arts, inside the collosal culvert pipe, and where my son was playing with the Transylvanian’s son, K, who is 12 years old). This building is full of mats, wall to wall, covering about 20 x 45 feet or so. Nice, vinyl tatami mats from Germany, sage green. I never go in there these days, but the ex is away so I practiced sport with my son and our friend. I trained in this martial art form for three years and thoroughly loved it, was kinda obsessed for a bit (sound familiar?). Anyway, it came back to me a bit today why it rocked my world, and I practiced the back rolls used for exiting techniques. I remembered the whole center-of-gravity thing that orchestrates the movement, and used that to help me teach my son how to do a cartwheel. Once upon a time I taught children’s gymnastics, and that came in handy; it was still so strong in my cellular memory! All that yoga over the years helped, too. (That’ll be another winter sport for me, Pete. Have you tried it? It’ll rock your world! Oh, and there’s tons of hot women, too!) Jeez, I’ve treated myself well over the years, I am so glad. All of this physical activity has preserved me in good health, in spite of years of bad behavior.

My son is gonna be quite a little athlete! We have a whole new repertoire of tricks, which were greatly dynamized by the assistance of our Romanian assistant. A regular Cirque de Soleil over here. I will be sure to let you know when the show premiers.

So, this building in which we were playing will be mine when hubby goes. And I’m having a ball dreaming up things to do with it. I’ve got at least a few friends who would do some kind of school with me; there are all kinds of performers/dancers/yogis who could use it for movement; there are artists and independistas of all persuasions, and the building is big enough to accommodate any or all of it. An artists’ collective! In the winter, maybe, but only if necessary, I could rent it to a yaghtsman for lots and lots of money. Heck, and how about a recovery retreat center??!! Remember that talk of a spa in Mexico, I think over on Bruun’s thread? Well, here in Rudyland we have other options, too. Whatever stage of healing you’re at, bienvenido! You’re welcome! There’s a blackwater pond to swim in, and a winding terraced stream for quiet reflection or crayfish spying. I’ve also been thinking that we should strike up that carnival we talked about on Murphy’s thread, ‘round the time we were involved with goats in living rooms and their placenta, trapeze and, um, who else, what else? Oh yeah, sheep!

Please feel free to chime in with ideas!

well we're snacking on armenian peanut halva, brought back to me by my globe-trotting neighbor friend who works for george sorros in healthcare rights for oppressed, sexually-different people (think prostitutes and transgendereds) in far away places. it's delicious (the halva), and with apples from down the road to clean the teeth and pallet, it's divine!

anyway, what a wonderful day i've had here in rudyworld, even though i didn't get my winter clothes sorted. i'm off to go out into the reaches of a nearby town, oh my! dinner with my neighbor gal at that cool cafe.

i'm lookin' forward to catching up on the other threads. hi bruun, red, is, pete, ne, doggy girl, ginger, lushie, windy, cass, dose, bobsled, everybody! hope your geese hang high!

      love,

Rudy, if you're happy, shout it from the rooftops. You've come so far. Let the world know.

aww, shucks, guys. thanks. the only way i could quell this energy right now would be to get good and drunk. that would kill my spirit for a few long days. so, sorry, loOp, i'll be staying the same for now.

i am so bummed i could cry, but the sobs are stuck in my belly. i just went out to the garden and the stupid deer ate all of my many, big boquets of kale, collards, chard, and mustard! all of them! i was so cavalier all summer about closing the gate, which is a huge, awkward, old screen door, courtesy of ex hub, because nobody was eating my garden. now that it is fall and everything else is dying, they've found their (easy) way in. i wanna cry. for the next few months i'll suffer every time i buy greens.

unless i think of it another way. here's the conversation i had with my son in the garden, upon our discovery:

yo: oh no! the deer have eaten all our greens!
                    el: awww.
                    (pause for sorrowful reflection.)
yo: well, i guess we could be suffering like all those poor farmers who lost all of their entire crops in the floods from the hurricaine.
el: yeah. we have a lot.

maybe when i buy greens i should say a prayer of thanks that they exist at all, that i have the means to buy them, that i have the wisdom to know that they are good to eat.

yeah, i'll do that. problem solved.

I try to do that too when I get really upset about something - flip it around, see how I don't have it so bad, etc. And I always try to learn a lesson from the experience. Sometimes I find myself having to relearn the same lesson a few times (my own damn fault!), but eventually it sticks (well, sometimes! :H).

Your son's a smart cookie. I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, huh?

                        Hey Rooooooooo,

Lovely posts, I'm sorry its taken me so long to join the chorus, its so wonderful and I think you're doing such magic in your son's life. And your own. You are inspirational in so many ways, wish you were my mommy too! Which reminds me, must go get more kombucha and keefir today.

Tell me how your science project is going with your neighbor, did you get a baby/mother to start your own kombucha?

                        xxooo

                          hi sugars!

just read up on kombucha yesterday, and i think i'm gonna start (haven't yet) with premade kombucha as the mother. don't need to order a mushroom. and i'll have to buy white sugar, which always feels a little weird.

i would be your mommy, too, if i could, bruun, with relish. i am so glad you find me inspirational; sometimes i feel very self-conscious about how much i post, but lately it's as if i have to do it. when i write i often wend my way into a new way of thinking about or understanding a thing, and the process itself is invigorating, sometimes cathartic. (and, i tell myself, nobody is obligated to read.) so thank you for your words!

god i've got a lot of catching up to do on your thread! i just took a peek and wow! i've been preoccupied over here with other stuff, so haven't been doing much reading (exept in these new books i've got...).

sometimes, is, the most important lessons seem to take the longest, huh? like my choice in men. years and years it took to find myself here, in a very good place. but i console myself by recognizing that i wouldn't be here
                          if i hadn't gone there
                          .

the lesson on the deer invasion: make a better gate and keep it closed.

                          thrilling day, all!

                            Hey Roo,

I'm behind on many things - just spent the day taking junk from the yard (broken chairs, etc) and clearing up and a little planting, going to the dump for the junk exodus, feels good. Except I'm exhausted! Wow! I relate to your need to catch up, is what I was trying to say!

I didn't know that you could start kombucha without a mother, but I did read that you can use organice cane sugar instead of refined white, although more $. How to Make Kombucha Tea Wiki This link, says you can experiment with other fermentables, like juice reconstituted with tea. Many brewers prefer organic, if available. Ribena, for example, colours mushrooms and tea.

Ach, my eyes are drooping into my tea. Time to go but I need to look at kombucha health benefits. Its all about fermentation and PH, right?

Sorry, I can't seem to leave this alone, new edit:
Kombucha has been consumed for over 2000 years the world over. It has been extensively studied and applied for several medical uses in Russia, Germany, China and many other places. It is naturally carbonated and is purported to have a host of healing properties that may include:
                            *Probiotics – healthy bacteria
*Alkalize the body – balances internal pH
*Detoxify the liver – happy liver = happy mood
*Increase metabolism – rev your internal engine
*Improve digestion – keep your system moving
*Rebuild connective tissue – helps with arthritis, gout, asthma, rheumatism
                            *Cancer prevention
                            *Alleviate constipation
*Boost energy – helps with chronic fatigue
                            *Reduce blood pressure
                            *Relieve headaches & migraines
                            *Reduce kidney stones
*High in antioxidants – destroy free-radicals that cause cancer
                            *High in polyphenols
                            *Improve eyesight
*Heal excema – can be applied topically to soften the skin
                            *Prevent artheriosclerosis
*Speed healing of ulcers – kills h.pylori on contact
*Help clear up candida & yeast infections
                            *Aid healthy cell regeneration
                            *Reduce gray hair
*Lower glucose levels – prevents spiking from eating
Simply put, Kombucha is an all natural health beverage chockfull of probiotics and other healthy amino acids. Probiotic literally means “for life”. Unlike antibiotics, which kill ALL of the bacteria in your body, even the good stuff, probiotics re-establish the natural ecology of the intestinal flora. Probiotics are said to boost immunity, enhance mood, fight allergies, detoxify the body and rid the body of disease. The Kombucha benefits you experience may vary.
However, Kombucha is NOT a panacea – it doesn’t cure ANYTHING! It brings the body back into balance so that it may heal itself naturally. That is how it is able to do so much – because it works with your body’s natural immune system.

                              just got my own bac!

I've watched some YouTube vidoes on how you can make your own kombucha using the mother that's already in a raw kombucha drink (like G.T.'s). That was what I was planning to do, way back when.

Darnit, Bruun. Now I want to go stock up on kombucha. I wish it weren't so darned expensive! Or that I had room to brew my own. At one point I had a wide mouth gallon jar all ready for me to start brewing, I just never got around to doing it. My kefir experience scared me off. I just couldn't keep up with it! At least tea and sugar are cheaper than milk! And you can buy bottles online that will seal and hold in all of the effervesence of the kombucha (I think they have tops like Grolsch bottles). Man, I wanna brew my own now! Maybe I could just keep the gallon bottle outside... it's usually warm enough here. Hmmmm... I sense a plan a brewing. I could always just bring that sucker into my bedroom and stick it on a heating pad when we get those cool nights here!!
Yup, I think I just might do it! :yay:
