    just got my own bac!

spellcheck: quandary instead of quandry; Rudycakes, not Rudeycakes (for Brenda)

how delightful -- a 5-year who enjoys halloween just hangin' out with mom; that's my g-boy!

do you remember halloween on s street, rudy, when i offered nothing but apples to the little trick or treaters (all 120 of 'em)...or the year we made popcorn balls for them all?

p.s. have no fear, readers, i will not be 'spellchecking' you...unless you misspell my little girl's name! and fyi rudy has asked me to let her know her spelling errors. it's a thing we share, a love of words.

i just listened to nina simone, rudy, (she is a powerful songstress!) and researched online for the plot to Porgy and Bess:

In this legendary Gershwin opera set among the black residents of a fishing village in 1912 South Carolina, Bess - a woman with a disreputable history - tries to break free from her brutish lover Crown after he becomes wanted for murder. The only person willing to overlook her past and offer her shelter is the crippled Porgy. Their relationship is threatened by the disapproval of the townspeople, the presence of her old drug supplier Sportin' Life - and the threatened return of Crown.

            Rudy,

Tell me more about the Kombucha, I must have missed it. What does it do?

Lush, kombucha is brewing in my and Isolde's kitchens, and in Ruby's neighbor's too. My avitar is a picture of what it looks like. You drink it, its full of probiotics and good for you stuff but its a little frightening. Google it. It's fermented sweet tea.

oh god, no, lady! it's not nasty at all! remember what i was just saying: it does the trick, and it's way better than beer! it's bubbly and sour and you can sweeten it with juice, or make it extra-good-for-you and spicy-delicious with ginger, or put in bach flower remedies to help soothe your spirit. like bruun said, it's really good for you. you don't have to make it on your counter, either. it's expensive in the store, but worth it: a treat! god, i used to spend eleven bucks on a six pack of beer, several days a week. sheeeit! what's a 4 dollar bottle of kombucha every couple of days?!

but, alas, bruun, there is no kombucha a'brewin' on my block at the moment. haven't started yet. keep meaning to, but... (and we'll do it here, not at her house; i can't stand to go in there: she has a million cats and kittens, and the litter to go with it: UF!) i just need to designate counter space for it, and i can't even keep up with the dishes half the time, and then i forget to buy enough starter kombucha.... oh, you know how it goes!

thanks, lifer, for the complient! (i thought this new name choice would be more, um, appropriate. except that it might imply you hate women's reproductive choice, or that you've killed someone and are paying for it, and we really don't know you, afterall, so maybe you have done one of those things, and would be a little sensitive to the nickname*.

                      * apodo ~ someone had to remind me of just this word in my ns class today. neat!

mom, are you kidding?! trick or treating at our house was worth skipping, indeed! i thought we gave apples and popcorn balls every halloween! i love the memory of cutting holes in to sheets, and sis and i being ghosts. you had some idea with the lipstick, but left it out of your sight for a sec, whence hermana and i took it upon ourselves to color red all around our eyes. kinda stingy, if i recall. we always made our own costumes, i am so proud to tell! (and our own valentine's day cards, for all 20-someodd of the other kids!) i remember the cardboard box robot, and the paper-bag onion. i've often joked that our toys as children were boxes, sticks, salad bowls (remember our sit-n-spins in those giant wooden bowls on the livingroom rug?), and trees. it's true! but i am so much better off for it; i have ingenuity! so thanks for that, mom!

thanks also for the edification on porgy and bess! i had no idea. in fact, my interpretation of that song is based solely on the song itself; i knew NOTHING about the opera. durr. anyway, great stuff! i've always meant to look into opera, and this one is in english!

i did listen to it for a spell once upon a time, when i was pregnant and when g was first born. it was this talented gal, and i wish i could remember the titles, but anyway, here's a sample, pretty pretty voice!

yes, the g-bone was a really cool kid yesterday! i am just tickled by how our evening unfolded. he is so fun to be with, out in the world! his dad just popped his head in to say -without curmudgeonliness, i thought- that he'd go get the boy from school. wow! how cooperative! and i've got an extra thirty minutes to myself because of it. those minutes i need in much greater abundance! i really do. i'm so grumpy with my son lately, even quick to anger
, and it's because there's not enough time just for ME. i gotta do something about that. god i wish that ex
would just move on! (lately it feels like i'm married to him again, what with his sharing the house and being around so much all the time
! wtf?! anyway, this too shall pass.)

thanks for caring, thanks for sharing. good to see you lady lush!

                      les quiero!

                        just got my own bac!

Hi Ruby! I'm new but have been off and on Bac for years and do relate to a lot of what you had to say. I am back on Bac and have been noticed my nose is looking odd since back on Bac. I'm not out of my mind and deal with pain 24/7. By the way I was able to stop drinking 11 1/2 years ago but suffered nightmare pain from breaking bones. I couldn't walk for nearly a year and did it 100% sober no pain med. I must have been oout of my mind or very blessed at the time. Only to get sick 6 years later with Fibro and have pain everywhere. I didn't take anything for years trying to stay sober so to speak. I threw in the towel about 3 years ago. Although med help still suffer and depression. OMG worse when I first got off Bac. Must do that very slowly. Please if any info on my face changing mostly nose please share. I use to look 10 years younger and now I don't even know what to say about my looks that where flawless at times. Sorry I still not sure how this works so bare with me.
                        Take care!

welcome, fay! i haven't a clue about the nose/face issue. so sorry! maybe someone else will...

mom, i was gonna ask you how long you think b. sprouts can stay outside in the really cold. nowadays it's getting into the 20's at night, and i don't want them to go to ruin. i was gonna ask, but then i just said fuck it, and pulled the remaining plants up by their trunky stalks (there were just too many to deal with this evening!). i put them on a rack in the potting shed, where at least they'll be out of the frost. but anyway, for future reference, how long do you think they could go in the cold like that?

Fay, sorry to hear your struggles. Is your question about bac affecting your face or alcohol? Alcohol can exacerbate rosacea which in some people, usually men, can change their nose shape. Baclofen can change your face by causing muscle relaxation which ends up looking saggy. Hope this helps. Are you using gabapentin for the fibro pain?
