    Naltrexone Works!

    spuddleduck;1161324 wrote: uk you are our nal poster girl. well done
    Well last night I did get drunk, had just less than a bottle of wine. Worked it out at around 9 or 10 units. I was tempted a little earlier today but it passed. It is a little disconcerting when that happens but I also know that last week I drank on 4 occasions and each time stopped at 1 or 2 drinks, plus Saturday night which was a long one but only 4 drinks.

    Biggest thing that is pissing me off is that I am still not drinking at the times I want to. IE I want to be AF most of the time, and let my hair down just a little when there is a band I want to go and see etc. Instead I'm drinking my quota when the urge takes me, not the special occasion.

    Conclusion is this;

    I haven't yet regained control, but would say I have massively reduced the harm alcohol was doing to my life. Also I am having to exert some will power with my drinking, and it's the times I let my guard down that I do drink too much.

    Action;

    Keep on taking nal WHENEVER I drink and keep believing it will work.

      Well just had half a 500ml bottle of beer last night, no problems. So back on track. I think it was a change in my routine for work reasons that knocked me off, it buggered up my sleeping and eating pattern.

        Well I'm in a bad mood today, just getting fed up of logging in and seeing baclofen, after baclofen thread. Fed up of digging this up when Naltrexone does have reasonable success rates, and without the strong side effects of Baclofen.

        We've had the old arguments before so no point going over them. It just saddens me every day, and it's getting me down. If people want to just talk about baclofen then so be it, hard luck.

          I don't think it's a competition UK.

          People are just talking about what they're doing, it seems that more people here are taking baclofen than naltrexone. Simple as that.

            Yes, Uk unfortunately Bac threads have dominated Meds.
            Not that this is a bad thing really, because many have been helped by taking it. You are a trooper and I give you kudos for trying, but sadly MWO meds forum has been overrun by baclofiends and that is where it stands. The sad thing is that those who can't take bac ...for whatever reason, don't get to see much information regarding alternative medications. If I were a newbie I would be inclined to jump on the bac wagon due to the amount of threads regarding bac...and that is exactly what is happening.

              I have been with MWO since 2006. I never jumped on any medication bandwagon, no Topa, Camparal, Antabuse...nada. I read, chatted in chat , listened and read some more. Almost 5 years later. My doctor agreed to prescribe Naltrexone, I am under my personal doctors care and that means a lot. She monitors my mood, my se's and has bloodwork done every 6 months. The best part is that it's working...15 weeks in and I have reduced my drinking by almost 50%...without really trying. All it takes is one pill per drinking session and common sense that it is not a miracle pill but tool to help one recover from the grips of booze. My goal is abstinence, I actually see that becoming a reality.

                  Hi Uk (I'm from the Uk too by the way) and am interested in your Naltrexone experience. I posted a thread called "Antabuse ...?" yesterday because I'm looking for tools to quit. I tried baclofen but was too nervous to titrate up without medical support, and anyway, even at 20mg a day I felt rough!

                  You'll see on my thread that I'm planning on seeing my doctor, coming clean and telling all and ask for help. I figured antabuse would silence my 4pm negotiations so that I CAN'T drink, and supplement this with campral and anything else we might think of. In one of the replies, Ne/Neva Eva mentions your name so I've found you - and posting. I hadn't thought of naltrexone .... I will now and go and google it, but am interested in your experience with this. Love Cher

                    Hi Uk, Katie and Co, Just thought I would update you.

                    Coming into my fourth week on Naltrexone and I have found myself not finishing the last drink a couple of times and quitting before I normally would. Also noticed that a drink is lasting about an hour and a half (figured that out from my new drinks app... ) which i am pretty sure is longer than before.

                    Still apprehensive but very hopeful thanks to all the positive comments and information I have gathered on this site and others and have ordered another months supply.

                    Here's hoping.......

                      UK,
                      You are amazing. You have been here for so long and never gave up - always offering support - never engaging in drama. I have enjoyed following you on your journey and am very happy for what Naltrexone has done for you. We should embrace the fact that so many are trying to get sober - not which method they are using.
                      Keep posting - keep giving us hope.

                          Naltrexone Works!

                          Hi UK,

                          Just wanted to let you know that i love your thread and always follow it with interest. I tried nal earlier this year with some success, but eventually got out of control again. It was more to do with me and how ready i was to stop than the nal, and eventually i stopped taking it and then i REALLY noticed how much of a difference it did make while i was taking it.

                          At the moment i am trying a low ( but increasing) dose of bac which is working really well, and i was keen to try it after reading all the success stories on here. I am really interested in following your progress though because i do have reservations about the bac SE's and not sure how i will cope with keeping my life going on higher doses. I am collecting naltrexone because my doc is still prescribing it and long term I still think it might be the right solution for me, and i loved the fact that there was no side effects and it was not disruptive to my life at all.

                          Anyway just wanted to say thanks for sharing and sorry you are feeling a bit peeved with the baccers at the moment...but please keep posting!! :thanks:

                            This being 'my thread' apparently I can say whatever I like. So here goes.

                            Absolutely fed up of this section, and some of the people in it who are pure hero worshippers and can't see beyond the end of their noses. It's pathetic.

                            The board is full of threads about baclofen because that's the cure all, it works and my experience was a complete one-off according to what I've been told. So I don't have anything more to add and I'm not interested in reading the crap that is going on here any longer.

                            Good Day.

                              UK,
                              Please dont leave, we need the diversity - I have seen many newbies in other areas of the forum that when I read their posts, I think "they should try Nal". This whole BS about Nal vs Bac, Meds section vs GD section - what the hell. People do not own sections of this forum, and they shouldn't be trying to dictate the content and participants. I need you here - we all need you here.
