I have decided that average intake per drinking session is more significant for me, than total weekly units. Why?Because my drinking problem tended to revolve around the extreme binges I would have, every time I drank I'd consume between 20 and 30 units 90% of the time. Very occasionally I might ONLY have around 10 units - and perhaps once or twice a year I might have a couple of drinks and stop there - but it was always an enforced stop. Not once during the above have I had to 'enforce' restraining my drinking.

Opened a 275ml bottle of alcopop last night. Got 3/4 of the way down and realised after the initial mouthful I had completely lost the drive to drink. Went to bed with only 1.1 units consumed. Monday I was completely AF without many problems at all, and I think I'm going to shoot for zero tonight. I am getting used to not getting drunk, and if I think about drinking in the evening I am finding myself thinking "Why bother, it's not going to do anything!". Wonder if this is pharmacological extinction at work?

I did possibly take a double dose last night when I couldn't remember whether or not I'd taken it or not. No side effects reportable if I did end up with 100mg. Oh and I have had a bit of a chocolate binge, think the culprit is most likely that I'd missed a snack on my meal plan, was fairly hungry and the chocolates were given to me. With all those factors under my nose the nal wasn't enough.

Quick wooohoooo update, looks as if the consultant is going to write to my GP heavily recommending she prescribe......he was quite impressed with my progress with naltrexone, and said it's made him think about using it more himself.

So almost there with the NHS!!!!

Had an AF day yesterday, no problems and no major cravings. Very pleased, it all seems to be getting so very much easier now.

Shooting for AF today and then 1 or 2 glasses of wine with a meal out tomorrow evening. I feel confident that is exactly what is going to happen.

One glass of white wine with my meal out last night, didn't have cocktails and didn't even finish all of my glass. I could have but the coffees arrived and I decided I did not 'need' the last few drops of wine, so why drink it?

Remainder of the evening I did not crave alcohol, did not have those overwhelming "Oooohh, I need to follow up that glass and get drunk". Nothing much at all.

The Naltrexone version of "Indifference" perhaps? So far this week I've had 3 days AF, 2 days where I had one drink and stopped - Tuesday 1 x 275ml 4% alcopop, and Friday 1 x 175ml (medium) glass white wine. No effort at all.

ONE big thing though, just received my order from Gold Pharam of 'back-up' Naltrexone since I wasn't sure how long my prescriptions would do on for. The package has been opened by customs, stamped as "Primary Customs Cleared". Does this mean they'll have noted my name and address?Or does it simply mean they had a nosy for controlled meds, didn't find any and have forgotten about it?Did see something on a BBC programme a few weeks ago saying the authorities do note down those who order large quantities of meds online, in order to track down those who then go on to sell them on(which for some meds is illegal). I'm probably only being paranoid though!

Hey everyone

I haven't posted here for a while, I've been having a bit of a hectic time including some travelling as well as a lot of socialising.

So how did I fare with the Naltrexone and drinking? Well I decided I would drink where appropriate, like a normal person and it worked. I drank 5 nights out of 7 and 4 of those nights were absolutely perfect. Two drinks max without me even thinking about it, those would be either 2 x 100ml wine glasses (the restaurant was using continental measures!), or 2 x 300ml beers. I experienced zero cravings during that time, and in fact went off to bed early a couple of times. Colleagues were actually held back by me not wanting to carry on all night. Then came Saturday and I'll admit that for various reasons I decided to let my hair down, combined with severe nerves over a situation that was developing I did get drunk to the point where I had a horrendous hangover the following morning and had my activities affected significantly. A run down of my drinking revealed I consumed around 13-15 units so still nowhere near the amount I have drunk in the past AND the biggest difference was that it was me that said "let's go I've had enough to drink"......unheard of.

Biggest thing I noticed is that I have not had any urges to drink, no cravings at any time (if I hadn't been in situations where it was normal/sociable to drink I simply would not have bothered at all) - so combined with the fact I was able to walk away too I am still convinced Nal is working for me. I've had 2 AF days since Saturday blow-out without any problems. In fact I'm glad it happened because it's reminded me how getting drunk just isn't worth it - yes it did increase fun for about 1 hour of the evening, but the after effects lasted about 4 hours into the following morning.

Total units for the week are somewhere around 25, but I'll have a proper tot up of my records later!

Sounds like good fun, and great to hear that your response to booze seems "normal"

One of the good things I noticed about not drinking to oblivion every night is how debilitating hangovers actually are. Thank god they are a thing of the past!

A quick update amongst all the Baclofen threads!

I've been very down this week after all my socialising last week(I am quite a loner usually and it's made me realise just how isolating my life is!), as well as a bit of a broken heart situation too. After 3 AF days I decided I wanted to drink last night, took my Nal and waited approximately 1 hour(I didn't really care if it was the full hour or not!). Anyway poured myself a glass of white wine and lemonade and took a few mouthfulls. Ended up pouring half of it away, it just didn't do anything for me at all. I had wondered if after my blow out on Saturday, if I'd go back to my normal drinking again - this to me proves I'm still ok.

Just very depressed about my life and loves!

And things change, they always do. Sorry to hear you are having a rough go of it at the moment.
