    Need help with Baclofen

    Thanks for all the help!

Hi to All again. And thanks for the help. Yesterday I was reading the site for a long time
and I have found Dr Levin's phone number that Rusty posted earlier. I will probably try to call
him later on today. Meanwhile I took Eva's advice and ordered some Bac online from United Pharmacies. I bought 200 pcs 10 mg pills for $42.60 + shipping. I think it is pretty good price
from an online Pharmacy. About half the price of River Pharmacy. They are in Oceania.
I have ordered Naltrexone from them before and did not have any problem with the order.
With expedited shipping hopefully I will get the pills within a week. I am going to try to make it through the three day weekend without a drink. I do not know why, but if I don't drink
the 6th day is the hardest for me. I have tried to quit numerous times and more than a few times I fell off the wagon on the 6th day of sobriety. Hopefully this dose will last till I can get
some more from Walgreens. Yesterday I called a Walgreens nearby and I was told that they
sell 240 pcs of 10 mg for $89.71, but if I join the club for $20 a year than it is only $10.99.
That is such an unbelievable deal! (Thanks again Bleep! I am so grateful for that information)
It makes a world of difference in price if you have to take higher doses for a prolonged period of time.

    Good Luck to All!

    :thanks:

      Wanttobe,

How are you doing tonight? Hanging in there? I just wanted to mention something just in case, and you might want to think about this. I scheduled a phone "visit" with Dr. Levin because I just wanted to talk about the reasons my drinking got so out of control and how this happened. I was puzzled because my battle with alcohol lasted about 3.5 years, and I am 50. This was about 6 months ago. Talking to him was worth the money I paid for a 40-minute session....and you can talk about whatever YOU want. He has no set agenda, like a lot of "therapists." He won't waste your time and $$$ asking you about your family history, blah, blah, blah. So, what I did is have a list of questions to ask him...questions I wanted answers to RIGHT THEN, and, not only about Baclofen, but about my recovery, about the notion that one must raise their right hand and proclaim, "Hi, I'm ____and I'm an alcoholic." Is that necessary, I asked? How do I make amends with people I MAY have hurt, etc? If you can afford it, it might be money well spent.

        Hi Rusty,

Thank you very much for your inputs. I appreciate it. I will try to come up with some questions. I will probably call him tomorrow. I think my alcoholism just progressed through my life from my teenage age ( I am a couple of years older tan you are). And all through this time for almost a quarter of a century I did not even realize that I had a serious problem.

My DUI just made it worse. I got laid off mainly because of my attendance problems that was caused by the alcoholism
and after about a year and a half without a job, I applied for the same company through
a temp agency and almost got rehired. Finally I got turned away because of the DUI.
The funny thing is that I was working for the company for about two more years after my DUI.
And I know many people there who has 2 -3 DUIs. But as far as new hire, it is a NO GO.

It does not help that when you have a DUI it stays on your record for 75 years and they treat you like a criminal.
I do not think I have any other problem than AL. Just minor stuff that do not require any
        medication.
How frequently have to call Dr. Levin to fill your prescription? How many refills
can you get at Walgreens? I have never been on any medication long term, so I do not know this stuff.

As they say: "If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing you have to do is stop digging!"

I think I am ready to stop digging!

        :thanks:

          Hi Wanttobe,

Dr. Levin will give you about 5 refills per script...at least that's what he does with me for Bac (although I haven't refilled yet) and Alprazolam....and I'm sure that it's because he doesn't want to be called every months for refills.:l Also, if you go through Walgreen's, they will ask you for his phone number and you'll give them his HOME number, and they might say, "We can't do that....it has to be his office number..." Well, then, they will be surprised to find out that's the only number he puts on his office voicemail. He'll give you plenty....just be honest with your intake. Then he can decide what's best for you.

At the time I called Dr. Levin, I thought maybe 90 mg. would be fine. He prescribed that dosage for me, but I haven't needed 90, or 60.....30 mg....maybe every other day. You will be so happy.

No worry, Wanttobe, I am happy to help. Stay close to this thread.

For what it's worth.....and absolutely NO judging here....two people I've known who live close to me say that getting that first DUI was the first step in getting sober. In the States, I think it's on your record for 3 years. Oh, you are are so on your way. There is a way out!

                Hi again Rusty,

You are incorrect on the DUI records. I am in the Tampa Bay area in Florida. In USA the DUI
stays on your record for 75 years. Practically as long as you live. Most of the people does not know this. They (including me) only find out this after the damage is done.
It is scary that you see everyday drunk people coming out of clubs and bars and driving.
Not knowing that you can ruin your life, even if you do not get in an accident just get a traffic stop. Check it out! It is 75 years.

75 years! And you get your driving license at 18? Why do they bother with the 75 years, and just make it for life? Who is going to, at the age of 93 (assuming he got DUI'd immediately he got his license!) feel relief that his record is suddenly clear? Great, he's back in the job market again! What joy!

                    Hi Bleep,

                    Sounds crazy, isn't it?
I hope nobody will misunderstand me on this thread. I know drinking and driving is bad.
All I am saying that I think it is too harsh, when you can go out have a few drinks
maybe one or too more than allowed, and you can end up having a criminal record for life.
Please think again before you drink and drive!!!

I think just about everyone on this forum must have driven drunk. I definitely have. I wouldn't have been able to get anywhere if I didn't! Not my proudest moment, but managed to get through without smearing anyone across my bumper. A few things were smeared, but never people, which I (and they!) am thankful for.

                        Need help with Baclofen

Hello, and welcome. I called Dr. L the first time at the beginning of Feb. He asked some questions, but was very easy to talk to. He prescribed the bac, and I did like you are thinking, Walgreens. I went with the Prescription club after I found out my medical insurance coverage was more expensive. The 20mg tabs are WAY more expensive, I've found out, so I will be going back to the 10s.

I called Dr L about a month later, because I wasn't sure what to do. My SE were manageable, I asked a few questions, and I just kept on taking the pills

Fast forward to now - I called him earlier this week. I had already put in a request to get the 20 mg pills at Walgreens, with his name, and they must've called him or whatever and the pills were ready the next day or two. I wanted to ask him how close he thought I am to my switch, and to ask if I could go back to the 10 mgs, as they were cheaper. Talked to him about some of my SE's. Edema the biggie I worry about, but others, too. He thinks I'm close to switching, and has always taken my calls, and has NEVER asked me about money.

So I brought it up in our call earlier this week. I have insurance, and I'm financially able to pay him, so I feel like I should. Oh, yes, he said, and we worked out the details. I didn't want to insult him, so I asked, what should I pay you? We've talked 3 times, and he said $130 per time, so I sent him a check for $390 with a short letter with the dates we spoke, my info, and my insurance info. He will send me a receipt/medical bill, and I will deal with my insurance company.

It's all hard, and I know I was scared to death before each call. I SO don't want to bother him! I thought maybe, by putting down my experience, that would help with your anxiety of not knowing what to expect.

BTW, I'm at 290 mg/day, not yet switched, but I do think I'm close.

                        Sassy:welcome:

                          Hey all,

I live in Texas and a DWI/DUI is on your record for life! The first 2 are misdemeaners and the 3rd is a felony. Regardless which time it is for life.

                            Thank you for your inputs!
I just got off the phone with Dr. L. and I have an appointment for tomorrow.
I was sober almost for 3 days, but I have bought a 6 pack today. Shame on me!
Anyway at least no major problems. I have my BAC on the way!
That is what matters! At least I hope it will not be a disappointment like Naltrexone.
Hey Sprat let me know how are you doing?
It is going to be a long weekend so please go out and please your family and not the liqueur
