    Seeing the doc tomorrow

    Hey everyone.

I've been lurking here for about a month now, just reading threads on baclofen and everyone's experience with it.

A little bit about myself: I'm a 25 year old guy, and I drink till I pass out nightly. (And I hate doing that) Anyways, I've been kind of an anxious guy my whole life, but it's reached a horrible point, where I feel like I can barely do anything besides stay in my apartment.

I found a doctor who said he'd prescribe me some bac, although I'm not sure how much he'll give me. Anyways, I'm super excited for tomorrow!

      Hey Tim,

Wow, that is exciting! Baclofen has helped me tremendously with my anxiety, the difference is actually amazing. Others have also commented on how much they noticed a decrease in their anxiety.

Good luck tomorrow at your appointment.

How did you find about the doctor? (If you don't mind sharing.)

Thanks for replying you guys. At first I didn't want to make a post because I've never told anyone the true extent of my drinking/emotional messed-up-ness, but I've seen nothing but understanding and intelligence in these forums.

Keep - I'm on an indoor soccer team with games once a week, and I belong to a gym where I've been lifting weights, however I haven't gone in the past month or so. When I'm bingeing, I have no desire/energy to exercise, but that always comes back when I'm sober for a little bit.

Evey - not sure where you got Tim from, but it's fine by me lol. To find a doctor I did a shotgun approach. I googled "addiction specialist" and called every number and left a message asking if they'd heard about baclofen for treating alcoholism. I finally got a response after about 10 calls.

Hi Pete, really sorry about calling you Tim. There are two other guys here named Tim, you think I could scroll up and read your SN. Geez...

Anyway, That's great that you called around and were able to locate a doctor. That's some pretty good luck.

          Keep us posted.

Hey There. I'm one of those Tims I think You remind me a lot of myself from your description(I'm 28, drink to passout every night, and am an anxious wreck). I just started on Bac this last week and am doing better already. I'll be following your thread and think it'll help me since we are started near the same time. I was looking for more that started near me so we can move forward as a group!

I noticed a couple other posts that I think are new so we have a few starting around the same time I think. We should stick together.

Anyway. Good luck on this, I really hope it helps your anxiety and drinking and so far it does seem to help for me.

            -Tim

:thanks: Everyone! Hopefully I'll get to know you all, and no doubt I'll be looking here for advice as I progress.

And Tim - let's do it man! I see you have a blog, which I'm gonna check out soon. I'll be looking forward to tracking your drinking - hopefully we'll both be AF soon!

                    :welcome: Pete!

For those interested in exercise, I found what I believe to be something very interesting:

Two years later and I swear by it. I've also had it confirmed by several others.

Lo0p - That is awesome! I love lifting weights, but it's a problem when protein has to fight alcohol to go through the liver, because alcohol has priority. I'm looking forward to being AF and able to get the best results finally from working out. I bet once you quit drinking you noticed huge improvements in your fitness, right?

Also, I've been hearing some people talk about one-dosing their baclofen, and their experiences with it, however the only person's name I can remember talking about it is Ringo. Has anyone else switched to taking their bac in one dose, and what are your experiences on it?

                      Thanks!

Yeah, I tried that, but it didn't work out for me. Didn't work out as in reverted back to being a full-on pisshead. It may work for others as well as Ringo, but I really wouldn't recommend you try it.

                            Hey Pete/Tim, welcome.

I tried the one-dose thing,it absolutely did not work for me. The idea is, for me, to mimic how your brain would secrete baclofen, were it able to, so small and regular doses works best for me.

I would check out with your doc what level he is prepared to go to, and see if you will have to supplement. Well done on finding one who is prepared to prescribe.

                            Best of luck.

Murphy & Bleep - glad to have both of you on my side. I'll be at the doctor's office in 9 hours, and when I get back I'll write what happened. I'm just scared that he won't want to prescribe too high. I'm thinking I'll take my binder full of bac case studies with me, to help alleviate any concerns. :nervous:
