    Help! Bac info

    Hi everyone,

I am going to see my doc this morning and i have stupidly left this until the last minute. I saw somewhere that someone had posted info about baclofen information to take to the docs. I thought i would be able to search for it but i just can't seem to find it again. If anyone could point me i. The right direction i would be so grateful.

I have some info i have found myself online but want to make sure all my bases are covered.
    :thanks::thanks::thanks:

Ok so i took the info along - thanks again to ignominious for your fast response and thanks to loop for the fantastic consolidated baclofen thread.

I didn't get my prescription so i won't be starting today as i had hoped, but i did get a good positive response. My doctor wasn't familiar with high dose bac for al, but he was interested in the info and he is going to discuss it with a colleague. I am going back next week and if he is ok with everything he finds out he said he is happy to prescribe it for me.

            Hi Jo,

            There's always this route - https://www.mywayout.org/community/f2...ine-35483.html

It's the route that most of us have had to go after our search for a willing doctor proved fruitless. Best of luck!

Thanks bleep, i have given that a lot of thought but this would be better if i can get it because it will be quicker i think....things always take ages to get to WA.

Also, i am a bit freaked by the side effects so i think i will be more comfortable if i'm under docs care....but i am really keen to try so i think if i have no luck i will go online.

That, unfortunately, is not all that uncommon. But better that than getting a side effect and freaking out thinking you're the only one.

I agree about trying to do this with a doc on board; we should always try to do that, but if he doesn't go for it, ordering on line is always an option. And the one most of us use without issue.

I got hopeful for a minute when you said WA before I realized you meant Australia :H

But what I would recommend, if you have decent health insurance to pay for a script, would be that in the event he doesn't agree to the high-dose bac, to at least try to get SOME from him, to alleviate some costs. I remember reading that the known "safe-dose" for bac is 80 mg, but I don't think we know where that number came from. In any case, I would just see what his upper limit is, and then supplement it on-line. Good luck man!

I've voiced this opinion before, and it wasn't exactly popular the first time around, but here goes...

There is very little that a doctor can actually do to help this process, imho. It will be as new to him as it is to you, unfortunately. Where they are handy is for things like blood pressure, and medical related SE's, of which there are few. The people who actually know the most about HDB are here, on this forum.

I understand though that having a doctor on board brings with it a certain peace of mind, but bear in mind that it will most likely be only that that they can offer.

Thanks for that bleep, i pretty much gathered that my best source of info and support would be this forum and without it i don't think i would have the courage to try bac at all.

I really can get crazy on meds though and I get really paranaoid so i think the peace of mind you speak of might be something that is quite important to my success and to me sticking with it. I'm hoping the bac might be different though because it can help with anxiety. If I didn't already have a relationship with my doctor i don't think i would try to start one with someone i didn't know, but since i do it's worth a try. It may also turn out that he won't prescribe a high enough dose and i will have to get extra of my own.

If he decides not to prescribe at all then I have a serious decision to make. I think i am ready to go and will try it no matter what, but I am going to cross that bridge when i come to it.

At least the doc will have been pre-warned about you and baclofen. So, if you were to order it yourself and you did find you had an SE you needed help with, then you could go to her about it. She might not be happy about your taking it on your own, but there's nothing she can do about it (it's completely legal) and so would be compelled to help.

No i actually printed out some of the case studies to give him and an excerpt from the book. Wanted to make it as easy as possible for him! Also i thimk he was impressed that they were actual case studies. He only scanned them while i was there but he mentioned some of the chemicals involved and said it made sense that it could help and he said it looks promising.

I didn't know it was legal to order meds online, i didn't think it was illegal but i guess i thought it was sort of a grey area...is it the same in all countries? I know my doc would help me if i did it on my own and i had a problem or something went wrong, but we do have a trust that is helpful to me when i have my own ideas about my treatment so i am reluctant to screw that up.
