    In Memoriam

Gearhead passed away on May 31, 2011. He died at home and no cause of death was given in the obituaries. He was 36 years old. He joined MWO in 2009, and participated in several different areas of the forum.

He left behind a young son and daughter, and a whole host of family members and friends who mourn the tragic loss very poignantly on the memorial website set up in his honor.

The last interaction I had with Gearhead was when I bought from him the baclofen that he'd given up on. We exchanged emails, a couple of phone calls, and of course money for medicine.
He said he was going to try antabuse. He was, by his own account, pretty hopeless about being able to overcome his binge drinking.

Among the moving messages left for and by his family was a lengthy heart-felt one from his sister. I've pulled the part that struck me as the most relevant to MWOers.
...Even your final moments will inspire me to do, what we could not do together, like we had agreed. I?m sorry that I couldn?t do the 30 days.
    ...
I hope that what I do in life makes what you sacrificed that more meaningfull.

I hope you'll join me in mourning his loss, however you see fit to do that. I am heartbroken at the thought of yet another person dead from this disease. Among my prayers will be one that the travesty of inadequate treatment stops before too many more of us die.
    RIP Gear. I'll never forget.

This is so incredibly sad. Way too young to die. It's heartbreaking. My thoughts are with his family and friends, especially his children. Gearhead, I hope you found peace.

It's a pity he didn't consider Naltrexone. Unfortunately binge-drinking can be very extreme and lead you into very dangerous and vulnerable situations - as I know only too well.

Thanks for letting us know NE.
