A few questions - blood test, missed doses, etc

Hello everyone fighting the good fight

A few questions that i could probably find in a faq. Sigh.

All of these are for someone, ok its me, on about 280 mgs of the Bac.

    1. Will this show up in a blood test for a routine health check?

    2. If you miss a dose and its near bed time, is it fine to just skip it? Or is maintaining the level the most important? ie, recently I've had to pop 50 mgs before bed and I can not get up in the morning! Last night I skipped the late night dose and woke up quicker, but the difference between 230 and 280 is pretty big.

    3. If you forget your meds at home when will withdrawal start? If I am at work should I go get them during the lunch break or can I make it til 6pm? What about an overnight trip?

Thanks. #1 should be straight forward, the others are on my mind but didn't really necessitate a new thread so got lumped in here.

PS. I know I need to update my blog thready thing. Just want to say it had nothing to do with the remark that I was chasing butterflies with bad intentions! :H

I'm not really speaking to you, but for the sake of your friend, I'll offer my input, fwiw. (pfffft. Do you actually have me on ignore or something???)

    1. Nope.
    2. Yes and no. Terryk has better insight into this, but I think in general it's not a big deal. Habitually? Not a good idea. I've had cravings that I thought were the result, but who knows?
    3. I don't know. I'd go home but I'm a nervous nellie.

Hope your friend is faring well.

Don't know about the blood test Sprat.

It is most important to keep your daily dose level. If you miss one bedtime dose occasionally you are not jeopardising the whole process but if its a fairly regular occurrence why don't you load the doses towards the morning. For efficacy total daily dose is paramount.

For withdrawals, everyone will be different. Having said that there seem to be 2 things going on. One would be the baclofen level in your blood which could cause mild discomfort, anxiety after 6 hours or so. The 2nd thing relates to the levels in your brain, it takes a lot longer for baclofen to get in there and apparently longer to come out. Withdrawal from this part of the nervous system could be more severe but wouldn't be expected for a day or so after stopping bac. Basicaly, stay at work, don't be a nellie. If its unpleasant, stick it out and don't do it again.

I am not a Dr or a neuroscientist, so please bear this in mind and try an find an expensive physician who specialises tin HDB therapy for addiction to answer your queries However, I have been cursed with the disease of alcoholism for 30 years, have a skeptical and enquiring mind, and have stopped drinking using baclofen. I presume you know that so I will not repeat it in the future.
Started Baclofen 3/9/10 Hit my switch at 250mg on 21/11/10 Present maintenance dose of 50mg : started drinking after 1 year, upped dose to 80mg and stopped: Tapered to 30mg, started 6 months of drinking, upped dose to 240mg to stop 12/7/12

        howdy, sprat.

no clue on your questions, but i see others have a bit of an idea. just wanted to say that i, too, did exactly that today: took too little during the day and heaped up the bac at bedtime (80 mg in an hour!). as i was crashing into sleep, i had some of those exciting se's (strange visuals, jerkiness). a driver down on the road sounded to have almost crashed, breaking and swerving suddenly, mirroring the way that i felt as i careened into a bac-influenced dreamland.

i did this another time again recently, and i, too, had a devil of a time getting up next day. i'm hoping for a better waking in the morning! (with that, i'm bac to bed, NOW!)

good luck to you - i mean your friend!

When I tapered off Baclofen after 3-4 months at a high dose I didn't experience any sort of withdrawl signs until day 3 I think - and I did come down pretty quick. I just took an extra 10mg which sorted it out.

            Hey Sprat,

            1) It won't show up in a normal blood test.

            2) It's fine to skip a dose, it won't make much difference. Do it regularly though, and you'll find yourself in a pub, thinking all is okay with the world. One way to get around this is to split your dose up more, so that a missed dose is less serious.

            3) Not entirely sure, although it should take at least a day before you feel anything serious. Certainly withdrawal won't kick from a missed dose.

All of this is based on my personal experience, and therefore may not apply to you at all!

              Thanks everyone, helpful as usual.

Oh no Ne of course you are not blocked! I just haven't updated my thread. I've had a tough go recently and haven't been in the mood. Blah. Will post that all soon. But I really :h your support.

Yes, Ig, I should load up more earlier but after i started messing with my uptight dose, ie 35 mgs every 1.5 hours, well, i ended up

Seriously. And in the morning promising not to drink that day... just like old times.

So, i'm trying to keep that pace, but it is a PAIN to remember every 1.5 hours! And i get behind schedule. And i am forced to double down at times. Luckily i have virtually no SEs. I'm starting to think my meds are bunk.

Thanks to UK Blonde and Bleep for your experiences. That's what I'm here for!

And lastly to Rudy who had no clue to my qs but posted her support anyway! Let's try to not save our dosing til bedtime unless you like those dreams. I enjoy your eclectic music choices.

              Take care everyone.
