    Sammi Starts Bac

    Hi Everyone,

Well I have now had 2 AF days in a row again, but yesterday afternoon/night and this morning i am just CRAVING! I don't even know what I am craving - food, sugar, water, coffee, al, nicotine (I don't smoke but have been using nicotine gum for the last couple of years) - have tried everything except drinking alcohol and nothing helps. It just feels like something is seriously missing and I don't know what it is. It doesn't feel like I am craving alcohol badly but I do have a feeling that would help. I don't know this is a very strange feeling. Does your body get to a point where it starts wanting more baclofen? Is that what is missing? Or could this somehow be related to L-Glut?

Hope you are all having a better day (or night depending on where you are)

      Hi Sammi,

I just went and bought some Glutamine from the store - I told the girl I wanted L-Glutamin but she assured me it is the same thing so I hope that info is right. The one I have says it its to assist recovery post exercise, does that sound like the right stuff? It says its for body builders and elite athletes!!!!!!! I am also unsure about does, I have 1000mg capsules, and it says to take 1 to 5 per day, but I think this is for the exercise stuff so any help would be appreciated.

Here I can help. Whilst spending most of my time being chronically addicted to alcohol, I work in chemistry as a hobby ;-)

Basically, there are two forms of glutamine, D- and L- (or using modern notation R- and S-, but I digress). If you'd like a thorough explanation, please PM me, but otherwise just be aware that L- and D- are 'mirror images' of each other, and only the L- form is biologically active: therefore any glutamine sold in vitamin stores will be L-Glut.

Quantity wise, body builders take 10s of grammes per day so you should be cool. I'm on 9g a day and whilst I have hit nothing like a baclofen switch, I am now at a stage where I feel comfortable saying that L-Glut DOES reduce alcoholic cravings.

Best of luck on your journey,

      Paul.

Thanks a lot LLB, i suspected it was the right stuff but i am so scared of doing something that will undo my efforts or effect me badly.

I took the L Glut yesterday and today, and today i went a bit crazy craving all sorts of things, so i am not sure if that could have had something to do with it. Anyway i am up to 3 days AF again so i will just keep doing what i am doing for now.

        Thanks for the info :l

It could be the L-Glut that is CAUSING the cravings. I know it sounds strange but lots of people have that reaction to L-Glut. I certainly did, it caused me to have a massive sugar craving and I suspect, after having restarted it recently, that it's doing the same thing again. I've stopped taking it now and I think the sugar cravings have already started to abate. Counter-intuitive maybe, but that's how it works sometimes.

Oh yeah and for some people it makes them fart like dockers. If you'd like more information about the fartyness aspect of L-Glut, I think Redhead77 is probably the person to speak to.

Hey Murph- this isn't exactly a double blind trial but I'm going to jump in with you here. I saw that L-Glut was supposed to be useful in reducing sugar cravings, but for me, starting L-Glut caused big sugar cravings for some weird reason!

That said, it still seems to be reducing (though not by any means eliminating) alcohol cravings so I'm sticking with it for now!

Drinking less alcohol causes sugar cravings.

Suppression of craving is a beautiful, wondrous thing, and I would've sold my friend Murphy (not that anybody would buy) for any assistance with craving a few short months ago.

Ahhhh dude, absolutely, don't get me wrong, if it's working on the booze, that's by far the most important thing, without a doubt.

There is definitely a place for L-Glute, I'm just not sure yet where/what it is and if it needs to be part of a wider protocol.

But for now, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I wouldn't be so sure. I reckon SlipperyPete would jump at the chance. He plays soccerball you know!

Hmm this is all very interesting news. I've had my eye on L-Glut for a little while, as well as gabapentin. Any updates on it Sammi?

                      Morning Slippery,

Well i stopped the L Glut after 3 days and everything went back to normal the first day I didn't have it, so i am pretty sure that's what sent my cravings haywire. At the moment I am getting quite a bit of relief from alcohol cravings from taking the baclofen so I am going to leave it alone for now, but won't rule it out for the future if i need it.

Increased my bac yesterday by 2.5mg, I am probably being a bit over cautious but it's going well so i don't feel the need to rush. I will probably go back to 20mg in a couple of days but after the strong reaction i had at the start i am taking it sloooow.

Thanks to everyone for you advice and input. I do get more sugar cravings when i am not drinking, but normally i can keep it under control by eating a bit of extra fruit and a bit of chocolate here and there, although sometimes in does blowout into a massive ice cream binge. This was stronger though and it didn't go away after eating sugar at all, and then stopped the L Glut and everything went right back to normal.

BTW great pic slippery, needed a giggle this morning, might have to fight you for him :H

                        Hi Sammi and Welcome,
I'm pretty new to this too with just over three weeks AF and on Bac. I found that going up slowly and taking it in 6 daily doses completly did away with the SE's for me. I still get a little sleepy on the first day after I increase but after that pretty smooth sailing. I try to go up on a Friday so that I have the week-end away from work.

Good Luck, sounds like you have a good start!

                          Hi Texie,

Congrats on 3 weeks that is amazing!! :goodjob:

What dose are you on now? I did try and break it up into lots of small doses through the day but i found it just made me inconsistent and some days i am actually not sure how much i ended up taking. I think i will have to break it up more though as I increase and set an alarm or something to keep me on track.

I drank last night, but I sort of planned to so I am not too bothered about it. In the last 2 weeks i have had 10 AF days, which is truly a miracle for me. 2 weeks ago i wouldn't have even thought one day would be possible.

Also just one more thing about the L Glut - no gas! Maybe there was something else in my bottle!

                          Sammi

                            Hi all,

Post weekend update here...did some controlled drinking, however did get drunk friday night. One good thing though was that i was kind of fun and happy drunk, not angry and messy as is the norm. Also, after 8 drinks and some fun i went to bed instead of 20+, fighting and passing out.

I am going up to 20mg, cravings are a bit worse so hopefully going up will help.

Seems to be lots of new baccers around, great to see and welcome everyone!

                              It's working it's magic already

Pretty soon it'll be a few drinks and then bed, and then "for some reason that drink didn't look too appealing."

                                Hi all,

Got a new side efect and i am looking for reassurance that others have had it and lived through it!

Since i started bac i have found that my tongue felt slightly swollen, as though its a little too big for my mouth, and yesterday i went up a bit and it's definitely worse. I can live with it but am just a bit concerned it might be an allergic reaction.

Any advice would be most appreciated x
