    Katie's Naltrexone update

16 weeks - so far so good.

No SE's, no blackouts or drunken behaviour.
I'm working on not drinking out of habit and try to only take the Nal when I am having an actual craving.
I now average about 5-6 units per session and manage to easily have a few AF days per week.
The idea of drinking 2 litres (16 units) of wine in one go is almost unfathomable...I can't believe I drank that amount and sometimes more, nightly for 25 years.

Naltrexone seems to be working with minimal effort on my part. Time will tell.

I'd certainly be happy with that progress. I didn't use naltrexone myself for long enough, but if I found myself drinking again, I'd certainly be interested in giving it another try. Keep up the great work.

        Katie's Naltrexone update

The process seems to take forever, but it feels like it's working as my numbers are dropping overall. Pretty easy method to follow, one 50 mg pill at least one hour before drinking. I'll update again in a few more weeks, seemed silly to update weekly because the change is so slow there wasn't really much to report.
        Onward I go.

Naltrexone made a huge turn-around in Noelle's life. It really thrills me to see someone turn a corner. I know you'll get "there"!

                    Katie's Naltrexone update

One of the reasons TSM can fail is through lack of patience, it's a slow process but then again most techniques and meds for overcoming alcohol problems can take a long time to work too. Most people do see some sort of improvement initially though even if it's only a reduction in blackouts and similarly distructive behaviours.

I agree Uk, it's easy to become discouraged, weeks upon weeks with no outstanding change. The Sinclair Method forum has a ton of information and lots of great people that have helped me understand the process. It took me years to get this way...it will take time to undo the damage.

                            Katie's Naltrexone update

22 weeks in - short update

Journey very interesting so far. Feeling no side effects. General feeling of well being. Life is good.

Had one bad week (20 ) recently topping at 45 drinks, these spikes in drinking are called extinction bursts where the brain is frantically searching for it's high, so one drinks through the Nal trying to get that "buzz". Not the best thing though because Nal hangovers are wicked.

The two weeks following, I dropped down to 25 drinks per week.

The past three days I have had only 2 drinks per evening, without even thinking about having more.

TSM seems to be working. I still have another 7 months before I'm finished with my prescription, so onward I go.

Golden rule: 50 mg Nal, one hour before drinking.

                            Peace
                            K

                              Good on you Katie.

Yes I had the extinction bursts, last one I'd say was over a full month ago now (5 weeks I think). Most I've had in one night since then was not enough to cause me any harm or hangover at 7.6 (less than one bottle of wine).

Like you I have no side effects and simply take the 50mg pill at least one hour before drinking.
