In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". Of all "anticraving medications used in animals, only one - baclofen - has the unique property of suppressing the motivation to consume cocaine, heroin, alcohol, nicotine and d-amphetamine"

        Otter,
I always appreciated everything from you.

I wish I could fix indiffrence to indifference but don't know how!

Thanks, it seemed like a good idea and I did not understand why no one had done it. I know why now. It took ages.

It would be great if the owners of this site woke up to the significance of Baclofen in the treatment of alcoholism and allowed some stickies...as a humanitarian gesture if for no other reason.

There are three stickies at the start of the General Discussion threads!!!! What is that about????????????????

The meds forum is full of baclofen threads, is that not importance enough?

Otter from what I remember, there's some issue with there not being people around that have the power to do stickies anymore. Something like that. Great idea though. Like UKB pointed out, they wouldn't all be about bac, of course.

Otter, I can't begin to imagine how you think those are the best of the bac* threads. A couple of them are the most contentious, outrageous displays of rudeness and egregious behavior I have ever witnessed. Here or anywhere. In one instance a person was banned from MWO. Another was shunned. Several of us left for a period of time over our disgust at the behavior on the ill conceived and poorly managed AA thread.
I can say that I have never been party, anywhere, to such bullying, meanness and outright savagery. For a moment there I felt as though I was having a Lord of the Flies moment.

Several other of those threads are full of blatant misinformation, much of which we have finally gotten rid of as we reached a greater understanding of bac and the people involved with bac.

I call you friend, Otter. I have gleaned a great deal from the information from the relevant research you've posted and the thoughts you have shared. I find myself very confused about many of your recent posts. Forgive the bluntness, I'm on borrowed time as we are still recovering from the hurricane.

*I abbreviate the medication name on purpose so that it is not picked up by a google search. Particularly in this instance!

Thanks for saying this Ne, I found the AA thread most distasteful and do not know why Otter has included it here. It's nothing to do with Bac PLUS I am sure I've seen recent posts from some meds users actually saying they are thinking of trying AA in order to further the recovery process.

Yes bac should be brought to the fore as another option, but care needs to be taken in the approach and of course without blotting out other methods which have helped so many others.
