When to take Naltraxone??
Has anyone found any difference in effectiveness of Naltraxone depending on when you take it? Closer to the evening? In the morning? Some days it seems to help me, some days not and I was wondering if timing makes a difference. Thanks much.Tags: None

When to take Naltraxone??
I've found no difference as long as it's at least 1 hour before drinking. In the beginning I did use if first thing in the morning, but as I got more confident I wouldn't drink then I would take it later on in the day. I do have spikes in drinking, had one last night but think it's because of different triggers coming up - had a biggy yesterday. I'm actually getting fed up of the spikes and might go completely abstenant if I can. I am however quite aware I am in denial about this, since I think "Well there is this, that and the other event I would like just a few at". Well after last night I'm not sure I want to go through all that again.

When to take Naltraxone??
I understand what the Sinclair Method is about, but I'm also wondering if anyone here has ever used naltrexone as an emergency way of stopping a binge once it has begun? In other words, if someone starts drinking and only takes the naltrexone part-way into the drinking session, can it still help by blocking the endorphin high, and therefore allow the person to regain control over the desire to keep on drinking until they are totally drunk?
I'm not planning on trying this myself, but it's one idea a mate of mine has, since he wants to still be able to enjoy some level of drinking without the severe addiction. I'll admit I am skeptical of this myself, as it sounds too much like a utopian, unrealistic idea to me...I think he really needs to quit altogether for best results.

I think he's in denial and clutching at straws, could be quite dangerous. I embarked upon TSM not as a 'way' to drink, but as a way towards recovery and possibly long-term abstenance via reduced cravings. My experience is that if you really WANT to get drunk, then you can drink through the Nal.
He could however use Nal to reduce his current drinking and help remove the physical cravings. It's worked for me, I now need to work on the mental cravings - which for me is the release alcohol oblivion gives me (or that I think it does). In my opinion Nal works if you want to reduce drinking, and if you are willing to wait. It's lack of side effects or painful titration make it an attractive option for some.

I'll pass this onto my friend, but yes he is still stuck in alcoholic ways of thinking to a fair extent. He wants to enjoy drinking yet be in control of it as well, hence his idea of taking the nal only after he has had a few drinks. That would be wonderful if it was a realistic idea, but my feeling is that he will simply not want to take the drug once he is experiencing increased endorphins. Also, if nal doesn't reliably work as a single dose, then the whole idea won't work for that reason too.
Good luck for the future!

Yes your friend is in denial, there isn't any magic pill like that and he'd still be at risk of liver damage and other problems.
