    Shotgun Opera Lock and Load

I just scrolled through some of your old posts and saw you have sleep apnea. I noticed at one point you said you were drinking beer at night. i am wondering if the sleep apnea began when you started drinking beer at night instead of jager? beer and wine are very high in histamines. lately I have been drinking Gin bkz they say it has the least amount of histamines. Also bkz of my asthma and horrible sinus problems which bac makes worse I take a lower dose later in the day. This way there are less side effects at night bkz the bac is out of my system. Also I wanted to add that I had sleep apnea a few years back and i did the whole sleep test thing. Are you taking any herbal supplements? I had been taking Melotonin and when I stopped that and another herb so did the sleep apnea. You also may want to have your thyroid checked. they don't often check men for thyroid disease but this could also impact your breathing problems. In my humble opinion if you are still having nose bleeds i think you need to titrate down!!! Slow and steady wins the race!

PS you should not take any sleeping pills if you have sleep apnea! My doctor told me that, she said i could die! of course I often did take things like Tylenol PM and what would happen was i would be startled awake when my body could not breathe and then I would be wide awake but my body would be asleep bkz of the meds. That sucked!!!

Thanks Penelope, that explains why I sneeze every time I open a beer or a bottle of wine! There will be much less sneezing in my future, I predict!

here is an article on thyroid and sleep apnea and asthma
he says: For example most, if not all, sleep apnea patients are fixed with adequate doses of thyroid. Chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD) also is helped by thyroid hormone treatment.

No... I was either going to die a drunk, or move ahead and see what would happen with Baclofen. I am a strange cat. I want what I read on here and I was going to try and get it. If I didn't get it, well then I was going to titrate down and try AA again. I wasn't going to stop -- nosebleeds, sleep apnea, hallucinations, auditory hallucinations -- I didn't really care.

I appreciate your advice on titrating down, but that isn't for me. I pushed on and just got a cpap machine. Baclofen isn't for everyone, but it has worked miracles in me. I found that if I had bad side effects, as I pushed through it, I got a newer -- sometimes more pleasant -- set of side effects.

340 a day, working with side effects, and most importantly, not drinking unless I choose ... seriously. I have no desire to drink more than a few beers. Two days ago I had one and a glass of wine with dinner. Yesterday, I had nothing. Tonight, I had nothing. These are all days I have had a bottle of vodka in my freezer.

Pene: I cannot tell you how to take Baclofen as I am not a Dr. I, just like the AA people, can only tell my story. I think you should do what works best for you. If you drink like me, it was either die slowly drinking, or risk side effects. If you do titrate down, please do so under a Doctor's care or go slowly.

I've tried everyplace to get bac and even at so called "recovery" places they look at me like I'm some nut job. I put a call into Dr. L so hopefully I can get it through him. I am really amped up about starting already, so I hope I can get an Rx today.
I wouldn't worry about it. Some people are open to it, but not many have heard of it. I tried to explain it to a Dr. and he said he was an "expert" in addiction and had never heard of it. We went online and I pointed to the Time Magazine article and that shut him up a bit. IMO it is amazing, but there are a lot of side effects that do suck. :welcome:

Still at 120-120-120 and doing alright.

Oh, and Dr. L is nothing short of a saint. He does prescribe Baclofen in a retarded way, but it is worth the extra trouble to go through him. I feel like a drug addict asking for the pharmacist to call my out of state Dr., but he always answers. Just be prepared to feel stupid getting your Rx, I know I have multiple times!

So I am still taking 360mg at 120-120-120 and feeling ok. I feel a little uncoordinated at this level, but I am told that it is not noticable to anyone else. I still feel it though when I am out and about. That being said though, I haven't slept more than a few hours in three days. I have no desire to drink, but I have a strong desire to sleep! I talked with Dr. L and he said that I can go down a few levels. Maybe in a few weeks I will drop. I got some rozerem today, so that should help. My insurance only covers 30% of it though and that shiz is expensive!

Hi Dose - Just browsed through your whole post and was wondering how the apnea is going? Is that still the cause of your lack of sleep?

I also wanted to thank you for the nudge you gave me to call Dr. L - it was a great call and I feel better than ever about the journey I'm embarking on! (not looking forward to the crazy looks that Walgreen's will give me when calling in my own order) LOL!

The apnea comes and goes, but lately it hasn't been showing up. You won't get too crazy looks until you start ordering large amounts.

                            Update:

Ok, so I am now at 130-120-130 (380mg) and I have spaced my dosage out to 0900-1500-2100 (9am, 3pm, 9pm). The first night I went up this high I had very bad audio and visual hallucinations, but after a day they were gone. I have been at this dosage for about four days and so far everything is fine. As I stay on these levels for a longer period of time my body seems to become more and more used to the Baclofen. My coordination is coming back and my foggy feeling tends to be less and less. Yesterday I felt calm all day and last night I bought a 30 pack of beer. I came home and opened one. Drank that one and opened a second. Finished a sip out of the second and watched a movie. Poured out my second beer and went to bed.

That for me, is insane. If you are like me or know someone like me, I don't go to sleep until I am blacked out. I usually don't remember the last half hour or hour before I sleep and my girlfriend would usually tell me how the last bit went. Usually it was that I was mumbling or half passed out between drinking. I am lucky in that I never get violent or aggressive when I drink -- just doze off before I get drunk enough to fall asleep. This used to be about 15 beers or a bottle of Jaeger.

My sleep apnea has come and gone, but for now it seems to be gone which is nice! I haven't had a bad case in a while.

I know I was going to try going down a few levels, but that doesn't work for me. I ended up drinking 10 beers 3 nights in a row and not feeling "good" about my chances.

I am starting to wonder where my top end is going to be? I spoke with Dr. L and he told me he wasn't worried about my level and frankly, I am not either. But sometimes I get the feeling that the first few days to a week I feel great at a level, and then my body gets used to it, and I start to drink again (small amounts -- but still).

Oh, I get that. I used to get so excited about finding wine left in bottle. Then finding it in the glass! Then finding that I hadn't even opened the second bottle, and there was still wine in both the first bottle and the glass. (I started measuring it for a while!) Then I'd drink a whole bunch one night and feel completely defeated.
But whatever. It worked. I had to take gobs of the stuff, (320mg and I'm a woman, ftr) but I finally just stopped wanting to drink. Then I started to drink very occasionally and very little. And then I decided to remain abstinent for 30 days...

Point is this: Each step was a decision. It was effortless once the decision was made, but it was absolutely a decision. Not an off-switch. BUT I had to get to the initial place where I was comfortable enough not to pick up any booze one night.

Hang in there, Dose. (Not that you wouldn't!)

Ok well, I finally just slowed down to 360. I am doing 120-120-120 and just dealing with the SEs for now. I cannot sleep which is the worst part of the whole thing. I am not drinking by choice (with a strong help from Bac) and I feel like my drinking is sortof "muted" but not completely off. I don't know where to really go in dose. We shall see.
