Ready to start Bac! Few Questions

    Hi Everyone!

I just picked up my prescription for Bac and am excited to get started on this journey! It's been a long, hard road to say the least but I feel confident I can breathe a sigh of relief.

I have a few questions. What are the side effects? I know these will vary from person to person but I can't find straightforward answers anywhere on the web. Is there weight gain? Has anyone noticed that they did gain weight or lose weight on Bac? Did you feel lightheaded or nervous on this? I ask because since I have stopped drinking, my anxiety is out of control! I am getting wicked panic attacks. This is why I believe that I self medicated through alcohol all these years. Will the Bac help with my anxiety? Also, what happens if you do drink while on baclofen? I'm not planning on drinking but this anxiety is out of control and I am thinking about a glass of wine to calm my nerves.

I appreciate any input and help in advance!

Here's a good place to start reading Happyness. The side effects are different for everyone (as you stated). Some people gain weight, some people lose, and some stay the same. I think *most* stay the same. I gained and then lost a considerable amount. Many people find a reduction in their anxiety from the bac. Maybe start with the consolidated thread and start browsing through others. You might get a better idea of what to expect.

Ready to start Bac! Few Questions

        Hi Happyness and Welcome!
I will answer as much as I can, based on personal experience.
        - I did not gain weight, but I started eating healthy at the same time as starting bac and giving up drinking.
        - I never felt nervous, quite the contrary, I felt relaxed. I did feel solemnence, quite tired (not unbearable) but could fall asleep on command.
        - It is very understandable that you are feelin anxious, you are not drinking and you are addicted
        - Many, if not most that I know of here , didnt quit drinking before starting bac, they drank while on it. Many will tell you that they felt that the drinking while on bac may have contributed to the really bad side effects and gave them bad hangovers.

I hope that helps - how much bac is your script for?
        Good luck!

          Hi Hap

Here is a link to some reports which I compiled on the effect of baclofen on anxiety. Almost all are taken from this forum and you can learn more by searching the threads referenced and reaching out to members.

            Hello Happy!

Keep it slow & steady and you will get there. Baclofen works!

Best wishes and keep on posting
Indifference is in your future with Baclofen. It works!

My frustration with Baclofen, which is shared by Dr. Oliver Ameisen, is that because Baclofen is an off patent medication there is no profit motive for drug companies to support clinical trials that would demonstrate its efficacy in treating addiction.

Ready to start Bac! Few Questions

              Hey Happyness,

Welcome to the forums and I wish you good luck on your journey. I am only on week two of my Bac experience, but I would recommend having someone who went through it guide you. I am personally very anxious and high strung too. I drink because I love the relaxation and even feel better hung over than I do normally. There are people who titrated up very quickly and just handled the side effects, and there are people who have gone too fast and the SE are too strong to continue. Every persons body is different and it seems some people handle it better than others. I don't believe I know everything, but I do think going very slowly is a good idea to let your body get used to the new chemical. On the advise I was given by Dr. L I will not reach the target range of 200-300 for about 3 months. I know it seems slow, but hopefully going this route will not cause intense SE. Just to clarify, I have not stopped drinking.

In my experience, Bac is very calming and will not cause you more anxiety. I loved the first few times I took it because I felt so calm and at ease. I thought, this must be how "normal" people feel. That feeling of being sort of high went away for me and the temptation was to take more bac quickly to get that feeling back.
