I'll keep you updated. It's about ten after 4 pm where I'm at and I think my last 10mg baclofen dose was around 24 hours ago. Strangely, I feel really tired today and I've already taken a short nap. I took 5mg of Valium earlier and will take 5 more before bed (this is equivalent to about .25 mg of xanax). I really hope this is it for me peeps!!!

Well... I made it all day yesterday with NO baclofen. Unless I start feeling weird today it looks like I've made it. I didn't sleep the greatest last night, but not bad. I really feel fine this morning to be honest. So this update is for those still interested in my progress, It looks like I am completely tapered off of Baclofen.

Quick update: This is day two of no baclofen. I felt a little "off" today, I couldn't seem to stay warm which is the opposite of how I usually feel. Nothing bad though. No alcohol thoughts or cravings. Hoping like hell sex drive and function completely return to normal soon.

To recap: Started baclofen in May of 2010- titrated as high as 300mg per day- dosed down to 200mg per day for probably 7 months- went down to 120 until July or August of this year-tapered a bit further down- now completely off of Baclofen- have not had any alcohol since early 2011, I can't remember for sure but I think it was January.

            Cheers!

I am sure that I have missed quite a bit. I will be going back and reading what I have missed on this thread right now. =)

Things mostly went ok but I had the strangest dream last night :H I don't think I slept that well really and woke a few times but I remember a vivid dream of being on a trip somewhere with my family and being terrified because I had forgotten to bring my Cymbalta (an SNRI anti depressant) that I have not taken in years . Anyway, I was freaking out because I knew that after a day or two without it I would start getting really sick and going through withdrawal from it. I actually started to feel that feeling during my dream as this has happened to me in real life when I tried to quit using it before I know what it feels like. It was SO STRANGE. But then my alarm went off and now I'm chugging black coffee... Not that this has anything to do with baclofen but damn, weird :H
BMinor, I have had some CRAZY dreams since I started taking baclofen. lol

Well congrats BMinor! I hope that this IS it for you. I don't know what your plans are, but it would be nice to hear updates from you from time to time. I want to know what happens when people get off of baclofen. Do they continue to stay sober? Dr. Levin said no. As for me, I am going to start to taper off in a year or so. I hit the switch at 150mg which was probably at 140mg's, but who cares, it happened! I have tapered down to 130mg's, and I plan to go down to 90mg's and stay there for a bit. I remember when I hit 90mg's in the summer, and I felt really good. It's nice to be sober and optimistic again. =)

Thanks for your replies. I'm *pretty* sure it's it for me as far as Baclofen goes. I'll try to stick around and read and chime in here and there still though.

I understand Dr Levin's caution when he says this... but I am not concerned for myself. Honestly though, if people are not having side effect issues, why taper off? I mean I think after a year to a year and a half, you could be in a good enough place to go ahead and give it a try. You can always go *Bac* if you need too The people who still drink "moderately" or "occasionally" on Baclofen should probably NOT taper off though. Just my two cents.

heya b minor! please do keep us posted, that would be very helpful.

i went down to 120 (from 180, which is roughly where i switched), and i want to wean myself off, too, but i think it's way too soon; cravings are scaring me a bit. now i'm back up to 130, and, unfortunately, i'm feeling a return of the unbeatable somnolence. i'm meaning to paw back thru my thread to see if maybe this is particular to this dose, but i don't like it one bit! ...but nor do i want to continue to fight cravings, so... i'll figure it out. (maybe the somnolence will dissipate once i start getting enough sleep again!)

i'll say it again: please do keep us posted on how it's going for you; yours would be very valuable input!

                        Rudy-

I'll keep posting as long as people are interested. I'll be honest too, whatever happens with me. Just listen to your body and if you haven't yet and care to open your mind to something that really brought it all home for me, read this book:

Amazon.com: Kick the Drink...Easily! (9781845903909): Jason Vale: Books

I'd recommend this book to anyone on here. Whether you agree with all of it or not, there are perspectives put forth in this book that can be helpful to any type of drinker- problem or not.

                        B.

BTW this is day 3 with zero Baclofen in my system. I must admit I still don't feel quite right. It's nothing major, just a little "off". My skin seems to be a little pale as well. No worries though, I'm not turning back now. No desire for booze, literally couldn't give a fuck. Pardon the language, but that's how I feel.

well good, that's encouraging, b, that you still don't crave drink. (how long did you say you stayed at your switch dose?) i will listen to my body, thanks for the reminder. and i will order that book NOW. (bruun has been talking about it, too, and it seems like it will be helpful...)

I think Bminor has a point...if you've become totally AF it's probably okay to titrate off. Because so long as you don't have another drink you won't trigger that craving response. And anyone committing to being totally AF could manage that.

But if you're trying to go for a "normal" drinking habit then you should probably stay one or you'll slip back into mad cravings, etc.

                                Best of luck, Bminor!
