    Me, myself and getting sober

Wow, I like "On Marriage" a lot. Oh, and I know DMV lines can be long but hopefully you're not still standing there. Hopefully you're DRIVING HOME, Windy!

I like On Love best, but On Marriage is shorter so I think I will go with that, thanks for all the suggestions, you have saved my day Windy and Stuck form me having to scroll through lots on here

I am getting excited now, I have just told my daughter that so long as they both make it there on time then nothing else matters, the rest of the day will sort itself out. For me the worst bit is the photos, I hate that, when Im hungry and hanging around for them. and I am so unphotogenic so never know what to do with myself.

I just dropped by to see how you're all doing. I thought it would be a pleasant little meander through my favourite threads but no, you lot just had to go and piss me off, didn't you?

Stuck wrote: The Brits are fun when it comes to the language. Well, I guess it's technically "theirs,'"considering it's named for them and all.I really feel I need to point out, even though it shouldn't be necessary, that “the language” wasn't named after the British. There are many languages and a huge number of dialects spoken on this island (and even more within the United Kingdom). English is the name of the official language of (surprise surprise), England, not Britain. If you were referring to British English that is a term used to differentiate the version of official English spoken in The United Kingdom, from those variants employed by the 'colonials'. 'American English' is a term which offends the sensibilities of many from the Motherland because it is often so far removed from the original, that it makes them squirm. And not in a nice way as one might find oneself fidgeting and wishing to adjust one's trousers when chatting to a lusty Latino serving wench, but rather 'squirm' as one might when one's mother talks about great sex.

Personally, I enjoy hearing AE, as I often find it very pleasing on the ear. Its written form can also lead to amusement when compared to BE.

Stuck, your observations regarding inverted commas, quotation marks and where to place the punctuation marks (inside or out), were very amusing and I did enjoy the way you deliberately scrambled all three in the above quote. Well done!

Now, onto something dear to my heart...and liver:

I do remember seeing Space define this elsewhere, though, and I guess the lagers she's talking about are cans, about a pint, and wildly popular in the UK. I Think they're maybe a tad stronger than American beers, so maybe 6 or 7% ABV... but I could be just making that up. But it would sort of be the equivalent of picking up a couple of tallboys here in the US.
          spacebebe01;1369445 wrote:
Lager is beer and we get it in cans, around 3/4 pint or pint cans and its not that strong usually Stuck its about 4.5 or 5%. It is very popular here, but paper bags arent, we have plastic carrier bags, Ive never heard of a tallboy. We also have draught lager in pubs, along with bitter and mild in older pubs, mostly old men drink those tho.
Beer is a general term used to describe any liquor (I'm using the BE version of the word 'liquor' here, not the AE) made from yeast fermented malted cereal and flavoured with hops. As Stuck says (but my quotation omits), the fermentation process is different for the various types, due to the kind of yeast used. Lager is generally lighter in colour than bitter or ale. 'Lager' would be how Brits would describe the usual American beers. 'Bitter' is, as the name would suggest, more bitter in flavour than a lager. Ale is heavier, generally higher in alcohol and what most Brits would call 'beer'.

In the US, people carry drinks in paper bags in order to circumvent laws requiring they not be openly displayed. In the UK we have no such laws, although there can be local laws (usually in town centres) preventing one from drinking in public places. There, it wouldn't matter if the container was enclosed in a bag or not.

I hope that has helped to clear up any confusion. Oh, and by the way. 'lite' beer is disgusting piss. Just sayin'.:H

Back to the thread: Space, good luck with the wedding and I hope you're ignoring the future Son in Law's mum. Do your own thing, girl. I know you will.:l

Love it space! I should have gotten my eyelashes and brows done too before i left europe! Hows it going with my skincare regimen? are you all glowy? I bet you are absolutely gorgeous right now! did you enjoy my post with the lady that chased me around? she eventually stalked me on facebook. no joke. really.

sorry for my lack of proper sentence structure, not caring about capitalization, punctuation, or anything at all in that area. i cant think straight at the moment as i have severe jetlag... one might think I am on bac! lmao!

I am so glad thats things seemingly are working out for this wedding. The wedding i went to recently had its issues, such as it was supposed to be outdoors. In the end, the wind was gusting, and the bride didnt have her grand entrance as her delicate veil and dress was all over the place due to 80 mile an hour winds... ( all of it was tulle) then there were broken glasses all over during the apero.. the before dinner drinks due to same wind... then it started to rain right before dinner so they moved the tables inside well the heat moved in as well. it stopped raining before we were served appetizers. and we were all going outside anyway to escape the heat in the 4 star resort. the food was all cold, and tasted so-so. all of the older crowd was complaining about how the food was bad and the service was horrible, which it was, but the service personnel tried and put their heart into it. The younger people dont care about the food that much, and are only waiting for the party anyway... the rest we just have to get through and are formalities. once the formalites of eating are over and the older and younger people are softened by the flow of alcohol everything changes. the point to my story is that it was a wonderful wedding. once the music started, we moved the party back outside and it was pure magic.
Your daughters wedding i am sure will have plenty of faux paus but in the end will be wonderful one. Once again, once people begin to drink a little they will have fun... for people like us it can be a nightmare to be in a situation like it. i was popping lgluts and kudzus the whole day, and praying my topa would do its job, which it did. my hubby didnt believe i was drinking water.. he even tasted it. lol! i was one of the relatively sober ones, which i am sure you will be.

ok, i guess i am just talking on and on. hugs sweetie.. hope you are having a wonderful day!

                  Space!
Hope you are having/will have/did have a great time! (Not sure how the time zones work.)

With these types of events the build up is so much stress and planning, and when it actually happens, it's such a release!

I'm sure you look beautiful. And I hope the biggest problem you run into is sore feet from too much dancing!

                  Hugs and love!!

And in your face the literal eye

Nor ever piece the tale entire
Of villages that had to burn
And playgrounds of the will destroyed
Before you could be safe from time

Why do Americans have such problems working out time differences?:H

It's 8:30 pm in England. They will have finished the wedding breakfast. Space will have given an awesome speech. And at this very moment Space will be at the evening reception, so relaxed and happy, she will be tripping the light fantastic, looking great and causing bulges in the trousers of half the assembly. PHWOARRRR!!!!
