    Bac Question

    Hey all,

I have been researching Baclofen and Naltrexone. A long time member, I have come back to finally tackle the AL and my ultimate goal is to be AF. I was AF for a pretty long time, but then slipped into on again/off again drinking. Now, I just want off again.

I purchased some Baclofen and Naltrexone from 2 different places. I've read a great deal and ordered the book by Dr. Amieson. I intend to use the bac and take the naltrexone only when I drink, which I intend to be only a 2-3 days a week. If I am able to maintain AF, then the naltrexone was just another purchase .... still less expensive than wine.

I have a few questions that some may be able to answer:

First, if I am able to maintain AF days until the Bac arrives, do people who have a string of AF days tend to notice fewer cravings more quickly? Does their switch tend to come sooner? Today is Day 2 for me, but if my Bac comes in 10 days, then I will have almost 2 weeks.

Second, I am also taking supplements - Niacin, B-complex, all one, glutamine. These seem to help me out a lot and I am on Day 2 with no real cravings .... yet. I read somewhere that certain B vitamins can interfere with Bac? Does anyone have any info or personal experience with this?

Thanks very much - and I am so heartened by your experiences,

    Bac Question

    heya pansy,

i think that if you're not drinking, you're bound to have a more efficient effect from baclofen, but probably more as a factor of being already-committed to being sober than as an influence on the drug's efficacy. also, there's been much mention of 'missing' a switch (to indifference to alcohol) whilist still drinking. i think it stands to reason that whenever you're drinking, you're less able to feel the good effects of encouragement not to drink, whether that be from baclofen or from mental effort.

on the supplement question, i can't speak about specific interferences w baclofen (maybe someone else will chime in and edify), but you said yourself that your supplements seem to help you out a lot, so that's what i'd rest on in the meantime. i myself am a firm believer in taking a many-pronged approach to healing, and i believe supplements are a good prong to employ (pardon the phallic language). my favorite guides for figuring out how to go about things so far are my instinct and intelligent conversations with people who know about such things.

keep coming back, pansy. it's good you're heartened, that's what this place is for. you'll get to that 'off again' place and stay there
    , just watch!

      Bac Question

I'd say if you're taking supplements and feeling a benefit, then continue taking them.

Not drinking can only help matters along, imho, although it doesn't really matter in the long run, as far as we can tell.

        Bac Question

        Thanks Rudy and Bleep!

I am onto day 3, which I have done quite a few times before :eeks: The supplements are definitely helping and I will be very busy this week - which means no real opportunities for drinking without messing up (like I did last when I had to call in to work for a hangover - ack). I expect my bac to arrive within the week and I expect to be AF when I start. The stories here are so encouraging - can't wait to hit that switch and I hope I do it a lower dose.

Thank you for responding and I wish all a good day!

          Hi Pansy,

When Dr. L prescribed Baclofen for me he also told me to take a B complex and an Omega 3. He was quite adamant that I take them, he said they would help. Good luck with your therapy.

I think your plan sounds good, Pansy. I might have done the same thing with the Nal had I known as much when I started. I think the SEs on bac will be less with less drinking.

The supp question. I've never read anything about B vitamins interfering with bac. I've had some persistent SEs, and my doctor (Dr L) asked me to make a list of what I take, so he can see if anything is interacting. I'll report back if any supps are problematic. I take everything you do, except the L glut. I do take L glut on occasion, however, so it will be in my list. Plus a heck of a lot of other stuff.

              Bac Question

Thanks for all the replies White Chipper and Redhead. It is good to hear that a doc recommended the B vitamins with Bac. I do also take an Omega 3. Redhead, I appreciate your letting me know if Dr L sees any interactions - I too take a bunch of stuff. I think I have more supplements than food in my kitchen

              Have a great evening!

                Bac Question

Good for you Pansy, very impressive!!!! I am on day 4 of taking Bac and I just posted on my thread that i was out and about today and I did not feel anxious at all!! For me this is a miracle. I am also not drinking, I just have no desire and while I think the Baclofen is helping with that it is more a reaction to the terrible steroid inspired bender i went on for 4 weeks. My body is just not interested in alcohol right now!! But that said the Baclofen def. is doing something fantastic! I took Naltrexone about 8 months ago btw, it's pretty good for getting you to drink less. But i really wonder if Naltrexone is necessary once Baclofen gets going. if I were you I would just do the Bac first. just my humble opinion. It sucks you have to wait 10 whole days for the bac to arrive. Virtuous labs sends it in 2 days and it's the cheapest I have seen yet! 6000mg for $50!, that's like 8 cents per 10mg. Virtuous labs is the liquid form which is what I take. Anyway BEST OF LUCK!! You are def. armed and prepared for SUCCESS!!
