can I drink a week off antabuse

I would disagree with some of what is written on the following websites, but it will give you the basic info. Sounds to me as though he just doesn't want to take it. just sayin' (sorry.)

            Antabuse

Does anyone know if you need to taper off antabuse? My liver enzymes have spiked SINCE I started using it 3 months ago and it can be hard on your liver. I cannot find anything online about tapering off. I do not want to drink and absolutely do not want to screw my liver up. My doctor is no help .

              Hi Ace,

Im not a doctor so cant be totally sure but Ive never heard anywhere that you need to taper off antabuse. As far as I know its fine to just stop.

Dear Ace. My liver enzymes also went up on Antabuse and so I stopped taking it. There is no need to taper. It took months for the liver enzymes to start to go down and I still have to be monitored. I did not drink AL after stopping the AB. I was highly motivated to quit. I also knew that if I did drink and even if not on AB that I could further ruin my liver.
I will have to watch my liver for the rest of my life. The damage was put there by years of AL abuse and the AB added to that. but the AB did give me a few months of AF time.
It sounds like AB is not an option for you and that you will have to find other ways to strengthen your quit. You really should not drink AL with liver levels like that.
you also need to be aware of the sensitivity of your liver enzymes when taking other medications too. I guess you know that paracetamol is hard on the liver - and lots of other drugs too.
Some people may advise you to try liver detoxes etc. These are of limited use. the very best thing you can do is quit AL and that probably means Antabuse as well.

can I drink a week off antabuse

I had this dilemma a couple of weeks ago. I took 250mg on a Thursday night and couldn't stop thinking about getting it out of my system o have drink. I gave it to the following Thursday night and had a right skin full.
