    baclofen study

Sometime ago, there was an announcement that some anonymous rich donor and Amiesen were behind a study of high-dose baclofen in the Netherlands. I just got word that the actual trial has not yet started (i.e., no one has been given baclofen).

Very disappointing. It will be the first non-anecdotal large study using baclofen > 80 mg/day. Now it looks like we won't see the results for a couple of years.

The results of the first phase of the French study are being published shortly following release on the internet a while ago. Then the full study is going ahead.

    Olivier Ameisen

In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". Of all "anticraving medications used in animals, only one - baclofen - has the unique property of suppressing the motivation to consume cocaine, heroin, alcohol, nicotine and d-amphetamine"
