Phew. I'm so glad this election is over. I've had to actively avoid certain people in my life. Both sides of my family are Republicans (not that I'm super close to most of my family), and most of the people I work with wanted Obama out. My grandmother has been (every time I talk to her for like a year) asking me if I'm going to vote for Obama again, and telling me I absolutely can't. She is elderly, and I worry if I tell her yes, that she'll have a stroke. She gets that upset about it. People were very passionate (not sure if that even explains it accurately) about this election. I was at work the other day, and there was a doctor literally ranting about how stupid people are if they are going to elect Obama again.

I know I've bitched about Obama (even on MWO) but I shudder to think of some of the right-wing extremists who would come out if Romney got elected. I decided to give him another shot, I hope he does well in this next term.

Anyway, enough talk about politics (for another four years ). I really just want to say hello.

EDIT: Ne, I loved that radio program you posted of the Red state/Blue state thing. I could relate to it in my own life very much.

Hey, did any of you watch the coverage on ABC last night? Was Diane Sawyer drinking or what? She kept slurring. Maybe she'll be posting here soon :H (actually, I love her), but what was that about?

Oh man, so nice to see my thread hosting the after party last night! I didn't happen to see Sawyer, but NBC's team didn't exactly look with it. And the Colorado governor, well I'm just glad his state legalized marijuana.

Well, hope everyone eventually got some sleep. I went straight to bed considering it was a long day. Spent this morning reading conservative news blogs, laughing hysterically, occasionally even pointing a finger at the screen for obviously no real reason, and then trying to plan a class for today. Needless to say, I have no clue what I'm teaching the children.

                      Have a good one everybody!

Oh, and forgive me this one link. It just makes me happy:

                        Hi All,

Don't do politics vocally on line but shit?

                        WOW! Are you all serious?

Financially, just frickin' watch the banks and the economy.

OMG I'm so domestic on Fridays I can't even believe it; it's like Susie Q. Homemaker attacked this apartment. Laundry. Lots of laundry, dishes, took out the trash, and I even changed my sheets and made the bed. What the heck is all this about? Music blasting, cats fearful of being swept up in the flurry, and even sitting at the computer now, I'm worried I might jump up and start cleaning the desk... But then suddenly it's afternoon already and I've done no real work at all yet today. Oops.

Well, at least I can safely look in the kitchen again!

And LL, you're absolutely right about politics on the boards. I still can't resist a quick reply though: I too am concerned about Obama's complicity with Wall Street, among other things, but since the Socialist Party wasn't on the ballot I had to settle for the Democrats.

Anyway, I'm still hanging around, everyone. Drinking's not really doing anything for me, though I still give it the ol' college try most days. That's not actually as bad as it sounds. Two or three beers usually, and it doesn't feel great so I stop, and I'm not keeping hard liquor in the house. Mostly because I don't want to spend the money on a bottle, but also because that's a quick way to get drunk and drunk doesn't feel good at all. So that's about it, except when the bartender apparently tries to set me up with someone, and then all the guys buy a whole bunch of rounds for both the lady in question and myself, so drinks just keep appearing in front of us. Oy.

                          Happy Friday everybody.

LA, come over and clean please! My cats won't be too scared... I'll cook you dinner while you clean the garage out.

Lush. Takes more than four years to get us out of this mess that happened under GOP watch. And thank GOP Reagan for putting our Social Security into the federal budget so it gets stolen from and we are already short and expecting to run out of money by 2026 or earlier -what a god-send Reagan was, eh? Maybe if you ever need SS and it's not there, you will remember him fondly. Thank GOD that Bush wasn't allowed to privatize it, because it would be half gone with the stock market crash. And it needs to be paid back before its privatized. I've been paying into it every single year since I was 15 and I expect something more than that. And thank GOP Bush for getting us into a war against Weapons of Mass Destruction that didn't exist. If you are like most GOP Fox News watchers, you will not read the rest of the reasons Obama is good, you will just turn on Fox Bullshit Mountain and believe whatever they spew. Or you will focus on the concession he made to get the good stuff done.

Obama was also re-elected because he ended the war in Iraq, his administration got rid of DON'T ASK DON'T TELL, and is ending war in Afghanistan from a peak of 101,000 troops in June 2011, U.S. forces are now down to 91,000, with 23,000 slated to leave by the end of summer 2012 & combat mission there will be over by next year.

And if you don't like socialism, then you should like Obamacare although you are heavily instructed not to:
After five presidents over a century failed to create universal health insurance, Obama signed the Affordable Care Act (2010). It will cover 32 million uninsured Americans beginning in 2014 and mandates a suite of experimental measures to cut health care cost growth, the number one cause of America’s long-term fiscal problems. Have you ever had cancer and been refused healthcare? Have you ever tried going to the emergency room and had to wait 4 hours for help due to an EMERGENCY but all the uninsured of all races there (ie you can't blame the illegals for ALL of it) who don't bother to get insurance but the hospitals have to pay which means TAXPAYERS PAY FOR THE UNINSURED masses at the highest possible ER rates that exist? And taxes can't be cut AND pay for all these people. Its crazy we pay for people who choose not to buy insurance. This ends much of that. I read something like 50% of our healthcare costs as a country are from paying GOVT EMPLOYEE HEALTHCARE and 50% is from EMERGENCY ROOM COSTS for the UNINSURED. How is THAT not socialist?

Talking about Wall Street, how much do you really know? Obama signed the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (2010) to RE-regulate the financial sector after its practices caused the Great Recession. The new law tightens capital requirements on large banks and other financial institutions, requires derivatives to be sold on clearinghouses and exchanges, mandates that large banks provide “living wills” to avoid chaotic bankruptcies, limits their ability to trade with customers’ money for their own profit, and creates the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to crack down on abusive lending products and companies.

Moammar Gaddafi: In March 2011, joined a coalition of European and Arab governments in military action, including air power and naval blockade, against Gaddafi regime to defend Libyan civilians and support rebel troops. Gaddafi’s forty-two-year rule ended when the dictator was overthrown and killed by rebels on October 20, 2011. No American lives were lost.

A few more Obama administration accomplishments:

Reversed Bush Torture Policies: You may not care about this, but I do.

Reversed a sharp decline in world opinion toward the U.S. (and the corresponding loss of “soft power”) during the Bush years an average of 25%. Certainly helps not getting bombed by other countries....

To help families hurt by the recession and spur the economy as stimulus spending declined, signed series of measures (July 22, 2010; December 17, 2010; December 23, 2011) to extend unemployment insurance and cut payroll taxes.

I figure you've already stopped reading so I'll stop writing...
